This post is for people to connect, create and get advice on setting up bikepools (//%22http://bikeportland.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20%22)in their neighborhoods.
Bikepooling is like carpooling. Portland cyclist Elly Blue (//%22http://bikeportland.org/author/elly/%22) started one up in her neighborhood. Well, this is Tulsa's version of what's already working out pretty well in Portland.
So here it is. But first, here are a few things to consider when posting your bikepool (suggested by Elly Blue):
A) Your bikepool announcement should include the following information:
--Starting point
--Starting time (specify a meeting time and/or departure time)
--General route (eg, over a particular bridge)
--Other important data, eg fast or slow, beginners welcome, etc.
B) Don't ask if anyone's interested in a certain route/time -- just invite people. You have to go to work anyway, so if it's a weird route and nobody shows up for the first week or two, well, what do you have to lose?
C) Be visible (//%22http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_lighting%22). Be predictable (//%22http://www.cyclistview.com/%22). And, more importantly, BE the change YOU want Tulsa to be.
Only YOU can Make Tulsa Bike-Friendlier. (//%22http://www.tulsanow.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9584%22) Don't forget to post your bike pool pix here. Tsunami of cycling consciousness (//%22http://cycledog.blogspot.com/2008/03/tulsa-tough-paradigm-shift.html%22) in Tulsa? BRING it!
Excellent video on how bicyclists mix it up with traffic, without really dying. (//%22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU4nKKq02BU%22)
