Midtown from 31st to 71st and Peoria to Yale is in the middle of a disgusting cloud of smoke at 7:30 on 3/27/08. Where's the fire?

We smelled it over at 11th and Delaware at 7ish
I was thinking the same thing. I wondered if there was a house burning but when I got on Riverside it was everywhere. Looks like smoke, but it has been windy, so I suppose it could be dust. Perhaps a big prairie fire upwind?

We fought a big grass fire that caught a lot of timber and hay bales on fire. All that wind today blew it north west. Now that the winds have changed all of Haskell is smoked out.

I live in Lortondale at 26th & Yale. Same smoke/smell here. I called some friends that live in Ranch Acres at 38th & Harvard, same smoke/smell problem there.
Apparently, the problem is due to a "controlled burn" grass fire problem that got out of hand in Washington County near Dewey, north of here. When the cold front moved through and the winds shifted from the north, it blew all the smoke south towards Tulsa. They have been battling this fire since 2:00 PM this afternoon, and the wind shift caused the smoke to finally reach midtown Tulsa around 5:30 PM today. I wondered the same questions myself. I thought it was a major fire somewhere close to my house.
Why do these things usually seem to originate as "controlled burns?" Ironic.
Who ever thought today was a good day for a controlled burn needs to be whipped.
Same smoke/smell near Gilcrease. I also thought there was a nearby fire.

I second that. Having seen 3 big house fires on my short block of midtown Tulsa in the past 22 years, and I also lived through a high-rise apartment fire 30 years ago that originated in my own unit, I get very nervous whenever I smell smoke/fire/burning and I do not know the source. I was relieved when I saw the story on Fox23 news about the source of the smell and smoke.

That's what I said. Wasn't there a fire advisory just a few days ago, and has it not rained since then?
I drove across the I-44 bridge across the river around 7-ish and the smoke was so thick that it was hard to see the skyline.
Had us scratching our heads over here at 31st and Garnett.

It's good to know I wasn't just imagining things. I drove from my house at 111th and hwy 75 to Oologah and it was nothing but smoke the entire way up there.
Wake me up if you hear it is Utica Place....I'll have fuel to add.
I drove to Bartlesville yesterday. The smoke seemed especially strong there.
I thought it might be from a grass fire. I noticed several burned areas along Highway 75.
