Title: Speaking of eating seafood
Post by: citizen72 on March 24, 2008, 03:45:04 PM
What is the best place in town to order a sea food platter. My family loves this dish and would like to try some new restaurants.

We know about the Red Lobster which is very good. Any others.

Bodean for seafood.

I'm not sure about "Seafood Platter"?  That term usually only applies to Long John Silvers where the seafood platter contains chicken planks, pancakes???

We are really lacking for good seafood restaurants.  Of course we are also a bit landlocked.  Perhaps we should start harvesting those zebra mussels that are such a nuisance.

We could turn those frowns around over at the fish and wildlife department with a pot of steamed zebra mussels in white wine and butter!   [:P]

White River has a very good platter.

Take your pick of fried or broiled.

Priced about the same as Red Lobster, only better.

I keep forgetting about that place.  I'm surprised it's still open.  Every time I drive past there's only a few cars.  I'm a little leery of eating at a low-volume sea food place.  Nothing like some rank seafood to tear your guts up.

I would stay away fron Dead Lobster.

White River is way better.

Fish Daddy's is always packed and although I never get any seafood there, they seem to sell lots of it.

Maybe White River is slow for dinner, but it is packed for lunches.  You have to either get there before 11:30 or after 12:30 to even get a table.  I don't like seafood, but coworkers did.  I got the brisket and amazingling, it was delicious!

It seems fair that there aren't very many decent seafood restaurants here, being land locked and all. The fishing's not great at the ol' Port of Catoosa from what I hear.
I can vouch for the cedar planked salmon at Fish Daddies. I've  also heard good things about Copelands, you might try them for creole style seafood.  As for  a local joint, I haven't come across one yet.

I saw where Al Copeland died the other day.  He was also the founder of Popeye's Fried Chicken after a couple of failed business ventures.

i have been there a couple of times.  the service hasn't been much to talk about; but, the food has been good.  the crab cakes are awesome.

just want to clarify...
my response is about boston's, not white river.

Service has never really been a part of the experience there- it's always been about the food.

Bourbon Street Cafe on Cherry St. has some great cajun-style seafood, and is local.

As for chains, I vote for Bonefish Grill at 71st/Garnett- they have some excellent grilled fish items.

Does anyone know if Atlantic Sea Grill will ever reopen?

My wife and I enjoy going to Bodeans. I think they provide the seafood for most of the Tulsa restaurants and have always had great service to go along with the food.

I don't hesitate to order some raw oysters there and they are currently serving some parmesan crusted scallops that are out of this world good....

I was hopeful they would not lose anything as they moved across the street and would have to say that not only did they not lose anything, the new place looks great. We normally just eat in the bar area (it helps that the bartender knows how to make my martini just the way Ilike it) but the seating area is really nice as well.

I spent a hazy night at Bodeans bar after symphony at sunset last fall along with the general manager and a few friends.  We decided in our "state" that the bar area was too large and impersonal and that a redesign or getting Mary to buy more furniture was in order.  Anyone know if there have been significant changes since last Sept?  Have not been back- no reason other than time.

The last time I ate dinner at White River, the shrimp had that leathery chew like they were prepared fresh for lunch, yesterday.

Too expensive for that.

Whenever I have pangs for seafood, I reminisce about S&J's and wish it were still around.

But, the best shrimp platter in town today is Bros Houligan. They even have a lunch special.

Oh how I miss S&J. The original Brookside location was a regular stop for me. Food was always good back then.

My vote goes to Bodeans. You won't find any better here.

I gotta mention though that Bonefish was quite good. I only ate there once though, and it was right after they opened.

Houligans has got the best fried shrimp recipe I've ever had, I like their cocktail sauce as well.

I've never had a lousy meal there.

Have you looked across the street at the NEW Bodeans restaurant and seafood store?

That was the one we were at, about three weeks after it opened, as I recall.  Well, really I don't recall much, and no I wasn't driving that night.  [:o)]

Great decor inside, the glass work is outstanding.  We all felt the bar was a bit big and well, under-utilized.
