Med-X is out at 31st/Harvard and Delta Cafe has (thankfully!) left Brookside.
What is going into each of the vacated spaces?
A festaurant at Delta....not certain who.
Med X will most likely get subdivided into mom and pops like franchises.
I noticed the old Hal Smith fish joint is being gutted at 71st and Yale behind Mickey D's. It's a big place. And I bet it's restricted from steak house useage.
The stakes are up at 61st and Yale in front of the Doubletree meaning Ruth Chris must be a done deal....
I think Breadburner said a Mexican restaurant is going in where Med-X left. I noticed a large yellow sign in the window this weekend, but didn't bother to drive up and read it.

That might explain why I've been hearing commercials for Ruth's Chris on the radio lately.

why so many steak houses along that corridor?
Ruby Tuesday at the old Delta location....I also heard Eliot Nelson purchased 1974....

The sign says "MED-X has moved, you'll have to go an extra 100ft for your prescriptions now"
Despite previously mentioned progress, the only modifications so far are a smashed-in window.
So many? 2? I don't consider McGills a steak house. Who else?

uh mahogany, and yes McGills is a steak house, as is charleston's...all of those places are the same to me....overpriced food and mediocre steaks.

Can't speak for Mahogany's as I've never eaten there. I feel the value is there with McGill's and Charleston's. I've never had a bad meal either place and I think their pricing is realistic except for the drinks.
If you count those, you might as well add:
Warren Duck at 61st,
Green Onion, Steak & Ale, and Outback at 51st.
Hold on. Steak House to me refers to high end. Morton's et al. My favorite is Mahagony. The rest I would not put in the same category. Fleming's is the other high end steakhouse. Outback, Lone Star etc are today's Bonanza with beer .....
Anyone know what's going to happen to the old Blue Ocean or whatever the heck it was called by Charlestons on Yale? Drove by the other day and saw a 40 yd dumpster and some of the window trim being removed around a few of the windows.

As I mentioned, it won't be a steakhouse. My guess is a bar restaurant. I asked if it was going to be a second location for Red Rock since the same owner has the building but was told no. It's a questionable site.
That location has been how many different restaurants? I can think of 4 in the 7 years I have been here. Maybe the kiss of death location, possibly?

Honestly, I don't get the attraction- snootier service, maybe a little better cut of meat.
I'd rather eat at McGills and give the difference to the DNC, Greenpeace, etc. [}:)]

red rock was nasty and overpriced....it would do quite well at that location.

I've never had a bad experience at RedRock. The food I've had has been quite scrumptious, and their tortilla soup is spectacular. They are pricey, but I feel that it's a good value.

I hope he turns it into a real sports bar instead of the half-assed sports bar it is now. I've been there a lot and never seen it even 1/4 full.
I also hope he spruces up that huge beer garden area next to 1974. Arnie's beer garden is nice but far too small to even consider visiting on a weekend. Downtown really needs a real beer garden and a real sports bar.

did 1974 get that name because that was the year it opened or someone just thought 1974 was a cool year?

That's the cachet of Arnie's small "beer garden". It's small enough that it's a relaxing setting and not too loud.

I do enjoy Arnie's beer garden on weeknights when it's not overly crowded. But it's just way too small to even consider going there at 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night. You have to molest fellow patrons to order a beer or go to the bathroom.

we need a beer garden that is not just big, but secluded. I'm thinking of the one like George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville. THAT is a good biergarten.

As a former Fayettevillian, I concur. George's Majestic is one of the great unsung beer gardens in this part of the country.

1974 had a sign in the window that said 'closed for remodeling' last weekend.
Anybody have any details about the plan for that bar?
That place always seemed like it had a lot of potential but every time I'd stop by on a weekend night it was dead. It needs an identity. It's not as nice as McNellie's and it's not as cheap as Dirty's. It's a sports bar type place but they don't have any sports packages available on TV.

Eliot Nelson purchased 1974...I'm hearing Deli....Another note Kampai on Brookside is done...I hear Italian....I also heard the old Delta location could be a nightclub 18 and under...Lets hope not....Another note Casa Laredo will soon have a location downtown near the Arena...

I miss S & J's. Hughes "trendy" has sucked at that location.

Hope it's a good one. Hopefully with knishes on the menu. Every deli I've been to in Tulsa has been pretty mediocre.
It just gives off a bad vibe when they wrap your sandwich in plastic. Good delis use paper.
Longtime Tulsa restaurant, Diamond Jacks, is moving there [7031 S Zurich Ave] from their 51st/Harvard [3601 E 51st St] location.

Aaah I like Diamond Jacks. Best reubens in town. But I always forget about them because of their location. Hope they go with the same type of funky victorian/saloon decor. This will be a much better location for them.
Didnt they use to have a location downtown? I remember as a kid you would order via a black phone at the table. Vaguely remember some type of menue type thing that was inside a lit up box that hung on the wall by each table.

I think you are referring to Ma Bells. That was a fun place! They also used to have a beer club where you got a card that they would punch for each different beer you ordered, then when you filled you card, you got a free steak dinner.
Our goal was usually to attempt to fill the card in one evening. I think it was about 30 different beers. [:o)]
Larry Zankel bought Diamond Jack's years ago from Jack Appleton. Both are/were stand up good people. Howard Smith had Ma Bell's. Another very good restauranteer. Saw Howard not too long ago. Looked good considering he'd been in the food trade for many many years and also his gunshot incident.
Ruebens? I have yet to find consistency at any sandwich joint. Paddys can be outstanding and then suck. Same with Crowe Creek. Love the little Rueben apps at KillKenny's.
I still hear Ruby Tuesdaze at Delta.....what a shame.
I want to see a Tulsa deli that can offer something like this:
(http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1220/566553267_3b37ee7dde_m.jpg) (//%22http://www.flickr.com/photos/batesline/566553267/%22)

I want that now!
Gives me memories of Koppermans in St. Louis!
The Lunch Box in downtown OKC has some pretty damned good pastrami if you're ever in the neighborhood. At least, they sure did five years ago.
My understanding is that 1974 will become something like an upscale deli - think Cosmo's.
As for the sports downtown. Joe Momma's will have the sports packages and more TVs than anyone else in the neighborhood, though we will not be a sports bar.
As for the beer garden comments - I'm all about it. I think we could really use a great beer garden downtown. Maybe one of you guys should open it.
P.S. Ruby freaking Tuesday on Brookside? Someone should stop that from happening.
I agree with everyone on how out of place Ruby Tuesday would be on Brookside. First of all, I think RT's food is absolutely horrible, including their touted salad bar. Second of all, how does Brookside fit RT's business model? I mean, who in the hell is working for their marketing and real estate selection department?
Ruby Tuesday on Brookside will be like the mom chaperon sitting next to young teenagers at the movies.
There was an article in March saying that Ruby Tuesday was having financial problems and had temporarily stopped opening new restaurants. See http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/mar/06/more-time-for-ruby-tuesdays/. Most of the comments complained that the company had switched from a family friendly theme to an upscale restaurant, and had raised prices.
Whoever does finally take the old Delta location I hope they open the doors onto Peoria instead of the side street. It is a pretty large space and I would venture a guess that the rent being asked is high, probably too high for most any locals. Will a chain restaurant work on Brookside. The Wendy's didn't work neither did the Fudruckers. Although the pee wees seems to have a steady traffic flow, I don't understand why, the food there is awful, it all tastes the same to me. Personally I would love to see a Florida style fish house in that location. Something like The Shrimp Basket (//%22http://www.shrimpbasket.com/%22) Lots of good seafood baskets that aren't so expensive.
A chain will work at that location, (see Charleston's), but long-term survival will require a quality product. I don't see RT's fitting the bill (which doesn't mean they won't try).
Personally, I would like to see the roof top converted to provide patio seating, an outdoor bar, etc. This may be cost prohibitive given the likely rent, but I can still dream.
I still think an upscale sports bar/restaurant like Fox & Hound would be ideal.
I really wish a good gym would go in on Brookside. That would be a great location.
The empty Hollywood Video at 39th could work as well.
