Title: Disturbing TPS story

I know few on this forum read the local paper, but has anyone read the two or three stories about the "boot camp" type school TPS is running? This is really disturbing and today's allegation/response format really highlights the lack of any real understanding by TPS Admin what is happening at that school. It seems they have built a dumping ground for some of the worst kids with very little oversight.

The could do what the prisons do and re-name them "correctional facilities", throw on some pink paint and everything will be right as rain.[;)]

it seems that TPS is falling further and further down the chain.  You would think that all of this supposed money that comes from the lottery and the casinos would be applied to setting things straight.  Granted, it still needs the personal attention of individuals who are willing to do something, but it's amazing what adequate funding can do.  As far as individual attention, hell, I would be willing to go in and try and clean it up.  Too bad they are sure to ask for a degree if I tried to.  ce la vie

My understanding is that lottery money for schools, instead of being additional money to old funding sources, was nothing more than a revenue shift, so basically it's not been a windfall for schools as I understand it.

Here is a report with actual Oklahoma education funding figures.

I'll deffinatly be reading that report when I get more of a chance.

Them shifting funding doesn't surprise me in the least.  And the truly sad thing is that no matter how much we scream at the PTB to do something about it, unless they gain something from it, nothing will be changed.

So do I get this right...?  They didnt shift money from education, they did add the "gaming" money to the percentage that education usually gets, but the tax cuts lowered the income.

The whole pie got smaller so every piece got smaller as well. Educations piece got smaller by a larger amount than the gaming added.

If the pie and pieces had remained the same size, when you added the gaming, you would have had more for education. But as the pieces got smaller because of the tax cuts, the gaming wasn't able to make up the difference...

Did I get that right?

They didnt shift any money from education, they cut it out.

And it gets worse

Makes me wonder if there is a way I can get in there and do something even without a degree

The Superintendent needs to be replaced ASAP. The new "magnet" schools he is setting up are a joke.

My daughter just got accepted to one of these.  Once I found out about it, I started looking into it.  Turns out, my kids would learn more by going to a school in the burbs.

TPS is spending millions of education $$$ on a duplicate police force that, among other things, insulates them from bad publicity...

...so Im going to bet the most severe punishment for this incident will be meted out to the student who took this video:

I wasn't aware the new school uniforms offered a gangsta droop on the pants.  Nice touch.
