First, they tore up a bunch of stuff on Peoria around Channel 2.
Now they have put up "Road Work Ahead/End Road Work" signs all along Peoria and Utica from 36th to 41st, as well as along 36th Street.
Then I see a Newson6 story (which I can't find on their crappy site, it won't just do a straight list of headlines in reverse chronological freaking order) about Peoria is going to be one-way for 2 months, and a year of construction is about the begin on the aforementioned streets.
What exactly are they doing? It said the work was approved in some 2005 package. Do we get pretty collapsing pavers on all of those streets? I don't even get why 36th and Utica need work, they are smoother than 90% of the rest of the city. Peoria from 41st to 51st is what needs a resurface (along with utility burials, it is UGH-LEE down there).
Those concrete unit pavers are junk. [:(!]

I COMPLETELY agree with the need for utility burial along Peoria. Looks like a third world country. Why they didnt do it when they already had everything torn up for months on end is beyond me? We all knew the street pavers were a fiasco, just the look of them from the beginning was rinky dink (just make the whole crosswalk look like its made of one thing dont try to be cute and cluttery by mixing cement sections and brick in, especially in such small crosswalks, And then white and black on a street, its all going to look black after its driven on.). Who is in charge of this stuff anyway? Its just absurdity upon absurdity.
They are putting in a new water pipe on 36th from Peoria to Utica and from 36th to 41st -- Utica from 36 to 41 will be southbound only for a couple of months.
It's called replacing decaying infrastructure.
YT said Peoria is going to be one way for two months, NB said it's Utica... which one is it?
Hope I was wrong and it is Utica :)
I can't find the story but I remember reading Utica picturing the dead end on 41st.

Im willing to bet there are no plans to cut down on pole clutter by burying the power... not when you consider how hard AEP fought to get the ratepayers to rebuild the system to pre-ice storm vulnerability.
With the pavement removed, that eliminates a lot of excuses regarding the expense and complexity of undergrounding. This would have been the time to do it.
Why would Peoria be made into one way?
Its a four lane road....Unless the water main runs down the middle of the street, why couldnt they just make it one lane each direction?
That's a pretty major thoroughfare to have going one way for a planned 2 months, which in the real world means 6 months.
Progress is not pain-less....And another fact the pavers are not junk the problem is the prep underneath the pavers....
If I remember correctly, they said that Utica was going to be one way southbound for the period of time mentioned.

another quick thing about peoria
have you all seen the pathetic little white gates at Woodward Park?
Here we have what could be one of the crown jewels in this City and we cheapen it with those. Indeed who makes these poor asthetic decisions.[xx(]
I noticed those cheap looking gates the other day. I guess they are trying to keep kids out of Woodward park at night? Do highschool kids still hang out there?

Last night as I was driving south, some ding dong was upset at me because he was trying to drive north, the wrong way, and I was in his way. It is very visible labeled as one way at 41st street. oh well.
