My wife just informed me that we are going tonight. I always love this show.
Unfortunately it was not promoted very well this year, the Ad agency that HBA used to promote the show developed a huge campaign that was based on a "Wizard of OZ" theme.
At the very last minute (before filming commercials and printing bill boards) someone realized "hey that's copyright infringement!" Duh!!!
I'm not sure who the firm was, but as an HBA member I'm going to find out and make sure that the same mistake is not made again!
Our Home & Garden Show is usually one of Tulsa's best promoted shows that brings over 80,000 homeowners to the Quick Trip Exposition Building every year.
It hasn't been promoted very well this year and the ads that were produced at the last minute are confusing (and a bit disturbing) at best.
Please take some time to go to the show if you can, and let your friends know that it Starts today and runs through Sunday!!!
I was disappointed the last time I went as it seems to be more and more commercialized and high pressure sales. America is becoming more and more "DIY" when it comes to their homes but the show seems very much against it. I was trying to look at some options for repairing my master shower and I got nothing but former car salesmen trying to push me into handing over $6k-$10k for a fiberlass liner. Not to mention, if it is going to be almost nothing but salespeople, why should they charge admission? I'm sure they don't charge admission if you walk on a car lot.
I am planning on going either tonight or tomorrow sometime. THis is one of my favorite shows of the year. As for those pesky salesmen, I just ask for literature and go on. I still have the cypress tree that the master gardeners were giving out a few years ago in a pot on my terrace. It will probably need root pruning this year.
i will be attending tonight, but i have been disappointed with the total lack of anything other than typical builder style south Tulsa stuff. Nothing modern or contemporary.

Any time you can bring 80,000 people to an event it attracts big companies that are willing to pay big money for big booths with lots of sales people. I think the HBA is aware of this and has been taking steps to make sure this thing stays representative of the Tulsa companies that support our market.
I will defiantly pass on this comment. I have heard it from several people.

I remember it being well promoted in the past, but I have only heard it mentioned on KRMG this year if I remember correctly. Just a blurb about it, not sure it was even a commercial.
Not that it matters to me, I tend to avoid expositions for some reason. Probably because they make me want to buy things! Though, I enjoyed boat show where everything was more expensive than I could afford anyway (so no threat!).
