When did moderism and moderates become extinct? Was it 2000?
When did we enter this black and white world of liberal versus conservative?
I think this year, with the "conservatives" rebuking McCain, it shows that we finally have a moderate candidate worth voting for. He basiclaly doesn't take bull**** from both extremes but has shown a history of working in the middle with both sides. To certain degrees Hillary is even more to the center, certainly more than her left wingnut opponent BHO.
I think in this day and age, we need to be looking for the person who is closer to the middle, not which one is the furthest to the left or right.

I'm pretty right wing on some issues (small government) but far left on others (gay marriage) - do those come together to make me a moderate, or just crazy?
I *could* be content with Obama as president mostly because of the cult of personality. Clinton gives me shudders on a personal as well as political level. McCain I'm fairly ambivalent about - which in a president is probably the best I can really hope for.

Moderates lost ground when they were compared to the white stripe down the middle of the highway. The Gingrich era.
Hillary really showed her over ambitious nature this morning when she said she thinks the Michigan and Florida votes should be counted. Not fair by any standards. Perhaps re-voted but not as they stand. That is one reason why I lean towards the empty suit. Better an empty suit than an empty head (Bush),one who would embrace that empty head just to get elected (ChiCainery) or one who would blur the rules just to get elected (Clintobama). We've had that behavior for over a decade.

The genesis as I see it was the day after the 1992 election. Talk radio gained traction. That was when the Gingrich-led overthrow of the House started, IMO.
I've never been a huge Gingrich fan. Divisive party-line politics has really torn the country apart the last 16 years. I'm beginning to believe that people, especially "conservatives" are seeing a middle ground is better for everyone.
McCain could be a really great uniter. I don't know if he could measure up to Reagan in those regards, but I think he could work the middle ground quite well. I think Hillary could wind up working the middle well too. She's already been proven so full of **** on healthcare, I don't think we will have to worry about socialized medicine on her watch.
No matter who winds up in the White House, I think those two impotent and incompetent boobs, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, need to be replaced.
I concur with the last four posts sans FOTD. I forgot all aobut Gingrich, but I guess thats where it all started. I guess Bush victory in 2000 was just a realization of all that conservative radio BS.
