Can't seem to find the U.S.-only ranking but I think it was rated in the top 10 among clubs it's size at one point.

yes this is true. and if you want to see why, try and get into the Wilco concert this Sat, if you can get a ticket....they are sold out.
the renovation is paying off.
if it isn't already, it needs to be placed on the national registry. It is a historic place.
FYI Les Claypool is coming in a couple weeks. Oh yeah.

Wilco: Belleville Il guy done well. Eh, Conan?
I can't wait for Wilco. Cain's is apparently one of their favorite places to play, so it should be an amazing show.

it is on the national register of historic places.
Cain's Dancing Academy was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 2003. It was listed under Criteria B and its NRIS number is 03000874.

it's definitely a great place to see a concert. its far & away my favorite venue. Liberty Hall in Lawrence is probably second.

bastard. I tried to get tickets two days after they went on sale and they were gone. methinks a big ticket house scooped them all up and offered them through other channels.
Has anyone seen the new wooden floor there yet?
I was sad Cain's had to get rid of the original wood floor, but it was warped so bad in spots that it genuinely was a hazard, even for basic things like walking.

I had the same sentiment about the wooden floor. However, I do remember my girlfriend almost tripping over an uneven spot during the Kings of Leon concert last May. I just hope they kept the floor the same style and pattern of wood- it really looked cool.

Yeah, status update on cain's floors please :) I loved feeling the music through the boomy wooden floors.
The floors are awesome. (Saw Yonder Mountain String band there and noticed the warping was gone.) If you didn't know, you would think they were original.
Also, I heard rumor that someone had purchased up all the wood from the floors and was making guitars with it. (Anyone have any further information about that one?)
just went to the Les Claypool concert there last night.
I love that Tulsa has the Cain's Ballroom.
I hate that Tulsa has a sizable population of knuckle-draggers that fill the Cain's Ballroom.
[:(]

At least Tulsa fills the Cain's ballroom.

From what I can tell it looks like Les Claypool plays middle aged white guy, knuckle-dragger music. Wouldn't expect the punk or young "indy rock" crowd to be there.

Haha- so true. Knuckle-draggers would never listen to Indie for fear that they might like it. They probably don't understand the lyrics, either. How many of these folks would know words such as "epitaph" or "taciturn," found in The Shins and Spoon's lyrics, respectively?
This was not an Alice in Chains concert in 1993. I thought crowd surfing & moshing were passé.
Apparently not.
I saw two guys start fighting & punches thrown near the end of the set.
This is also where I've seen people thrown out of a Yonder Mountain String Band show for starting fights. Plus the band saying 'if you dont stop throwing stuff at us, we'll walk off stage'
This is where I've seen people thrown out of a String Cheese Incident show for starting fights...okay that was @ the Brady, but regardless.
I'd be very surprised if Les Claypool will ever step foot in Oklahoma, again. Most of you don't care, but I do.
If I've ever seen a case for Oklahoma to serve real beer, that concert was it. These amateurs would be passed out after the opening act.
Damn straight, arguecat.

I never would've thought "ignorant drunks fighting" would be a case for selling STRONGER alcohol... I'd imagine there would just be more of them because now you can get 5 guys drunk on $50 instead of 2.

That's too bad. :(
For what it's worth, I've seen quite a few shows at Cain's, and most of the bands I have seem genuinely thrilled with the venue and the crowd. I guess it just depends on the night.
If there was ever a need for real beer in Oklahoma...
Les Claypool's opening act was it.
