Anyone know of resources/support grps, etc for working, educated, responsible gparents? Ive spent several unpaid hrs & wasted a forest on redundent forms, to be told I dont qualify. The programs Ive contacted seem to be for people who are clueless &/or dont have day-time jobs. Dont get me wrong here, I support most of their concepts & ideas. Ive volunteered for many agencies thru out the yrs. One agency has a gparent grp during day hrs. My response was "doesnt anybody work?" I politely closed the conversion & proceeded outside to bang my head on the bricks I pay a monthly mortgage on & to wash my 8yr old debt-free car.
I'd like to help, but I don't know of any. If I read your post right, you are looking for a support group for grandparents who are raising (grand)children that meets outside of working hours.
Perhaps you could look for a group for "older" parents in general instead of trying to find one just for grandparents. I imagine people have many of the same issues trying to raise children when they are 50+ be they grandparents or parents (thought long and hard about that age number:).
Correct me if I'm mistaken. Your post seems a bit more like venting than a coherent question. [;)]
I run an online support group called In Family Adoptions that you are welcome to come join.
http://groups.msn.com/InFamilyAdoptions
I am sure there will be someone there who may know of a group in your area.
When you join just let them know I invited you.
Being a relative trying to raise a relative child has lots of red tape. So come join us and maybe we can help with some kind of support.
