Another BoK Center Announcement 2/27 9:30am
Is this the headliner or just another big act?
What music genre is represented this time?
I'm guessing the national dodgeball championship.
It's not going to be the opening act... the mayor and John Bolton have said the opening act won't be announced until around 60 days before the opening. So we still have a while for that one.
I just got back from Orlando, where I saw Michael Buble last Saturday... He needs to be part of this opening--it was incredible!
The Rumor Mill says Eric Calpton. If so it would be a MAJOR coup to land him. I'm not a huge fan, but everyone knows him and he has a following. His only other performances in the United States in 2008 are scheduled at Madison Square Gardens (back to back).
Mid August he finishes a brief 6 date European tour. So it would fit in his schedule. http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?By=All&Content=Eric+Clapton&go_green.x=20&go_green.y=18
I have no inside information, but that's the rumor mill. For the price it is sure to be, I'll be missing it if it's true.
Wed 11/19/08 Celtic Thunder

Could this be the announcement for today?
Eric Clapton is the rumor for THE opening act. Which I heard they weren't going to announce until later. But it would be very anticlimactic to announce an act that few have heard of. I have a vague notion, but had no idea they would play stadiums.
NBA game headed to Tulsa

An NBA preseason game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at Tulsa's BOK Center.
Tickets for the Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic matchup go on sale at 10 a.m. March 10 and are $27, $37, $42 and $62.
A limited number of VIP seats also will be available.
This will be one of the first sporting events held at the new arena, which is set to open in September.
The Rockets are led by current All-Star Yao Ming and former All-Star Tracy McGrady, and the Magic features the reigning NBA Slam-Dunk Champion Dwight Howard and forward Rashard Lewis.
"This is a great opportunity to witness some of the best players in the NBA right in our own backyard," BOK Center General Manager John Bolton said.
Tickets will be available online at http://www.tulsaworld.com/bokcenter, in person at the Tulsa Convention Center box office or area Homeland grocery stores or by phone at 1-877-TULSA-CC.
Yao Ming is hurt and will miss the rest of this regular season.
I will go to this game. I think this will be a good attraction for the new arena.
D'oh! I was wrong twice. I guess they aren't announcing Celtic Thunder.
Anyway, good news. I might try to make it to that. I'm not a big NBA fan, but the games are fun and the pricing seems reasonable. A nice mix of announcements thus far. Country Music, Contemporary, and the NBA (and Celtic Thunder).
It's starting to look like we did good marketing this thing. Assuming the schedule stays half as busy as it appears it is starting off.

Yeah, I was wondering why they included his name since he won't be playing. (?)
Yao Ming will probably play.

He is expected to miss the rest of the regular but is expected to play in August in Beijing for the Olympics. If he is playing in the Olympics in August, I would think he could play in October in Tulsa.
Not definitive, but a stress fracture shouldn't take 8+ months to heal for an athlete anyway. Between that and the fact that he plans on playing in the Olympics it seems a good shot that he would be able to play in Tulsa. At least... I hope so.

Tulsaworld replacing every website with their own is really starting to P#$$ me off. The real website is here: http://bokcenter.com

The TulsaWorld did it to a site in a "Dear Amy" column. To me it is a minor case of fraud by editing other people's columns and press releases. It's just the TulsaWorld trying to hype up their website hits by making everyone who wants to go anywhere, got to TulsaWorld.com first. I hope they don't do a story on the "http://www.tulsaworld.com/tulsanow/forums."
I am happy about the NBA game, though.

It's annoying, but I suspect they do it to see what outbound links readers are clicking.

I might add that the Areema folks ought to consider doing a free show to get the acoustics straight BEFORE a big name comes there. Expensive ducat holders don't wish to be subjected to engineers calibrating the sound in a first run untried big room full of people with their guitar heroes serving as muted guinea pigs.
Ticket Presale for Houston vs Orlando is tomorrow, 3/7.
just bought my tickets. i'm pretty excited to have tickets to something at the BOK center.
