Title: QuikTrip in our arena.
Post by: TurismoDreamin on February 24, 2008, 11:55:16 PM
Is QuikTrip going to be involved in any part with the BOK arena? Look what they did for the new arena in Kansas city (The Sprint Center):

I think it was stated that they won't be doing concessions here.

Quiktrip doesn't do concessions in the Quiktrip center either.

I actually kind of disappointed.  I love QT, if their prices held it would be the best concessions ever.  [}:)]

That said, from a business perspective their money is probably better spent elsewhere.  Not because it isn't a great venue or won't get the foot traffic, but because QT already dominates this market.

I wonder if anyone's hit up Brett over at RibCrib.  I'd love to get a pulled pork sandwich at a Celine Dion concert.

Does anyone know what concessions are planned for the arena?

Wow that KC arena ain't bad inside either... I can't wait for an event that doesn't suck to show up so I can go see ours.

Why don't they do the darn concessions???Even a 25% QT concession increase would be OK, compared to the the minuscule cup of Dippin' Dots for $4 at the Mabee Center.
(Shakes fist, mean face.[:(!])

No 44 ox coke slushee and Reese's cups for me at the arena.[:(]  All for under $2.oo, probably even with price increase.

Now I really can't see why KC has this and we won't?  It just seems a no brainer!

It somewhat shows. I will admit that their arena is gorgeous from the inside out. I hope the budget cuts won't be a detriment to our arena's aesthetics.

QuikTrip & Mazzio's would be great concessionaires..What other Tulsa/Oklahoma bidnessess could we stick in there?  I am not a huge Rib Crib fan, but they probably have the logistics to do it.  Camilles too...  Maybe Sonic (OKC)?

How about some local brew at the beer tap? McNellie's?

Wilson's or Elmer's over Rib Crib. And Hideaway over Mazzio's. And what about Coney I-Lander for Dogs and Ron's for burgers and chili?

The BOK is $141 errr $183 errr $178 million(latest) not counting the extra going into it from what will become non revenue making suites for the next few years. No final project cost has been published but is sure to pass $220 million IMO

The Sprint Total cost was $276 and only took 28 months to open from ground breaking. They also did not have to spend millions for rehab in the area and move their city hall[:P]

So again, the Sprint Center cost $100M more.

And again no it didn't not in Total cost

Plus look at how theirs was funded (//%22http://www2.sprint.com/mr/cmastaticfiles/non-landing/documents/PressKit/06.24.05SCGroundbreaking.pdf%22)

But of course Tulsa isn't big enough to make those kind of deals.

You need a steady, at least somewhat consistent stream of business to operate something like a QT or Mazzios - The BOK arena is currently unproven.  Perhaps if it turns out this thing is a resounding success with near capacity events several days a week, there would be a profitable business model.  I think I read the QT inside the Sprint Center is their busiest location in the company - But they will not see near the numbers in the BOK Arena, nor are any theoretical projections of what business at the arena might be like solid enough to design an operation from.

Is the BOK Center even designed with the capacity to have businesses setting up shops around the people coming and going like the Sprint Center has?

Also, suggesting a mom & pop operation over a chain sounds nice, but you need a chain mentality to handle 18,000 people coming at you for fountain drinks and sandwiches.

What about, down the street within eyesight of, the arena?

I'm playing devil's advocate saying that, of course- but I do look forward to attending events in this arena and hope it is nice enough to instill pride in Tulsans.

according to that link, I am seeing food concessions handled by Levy Restaurants.  All those other guys must be subcontracted to that company.  So you have one company handleing the concessions, not half a dozen.  And QT isn't even local to KC, I bet there was some *****ing about that little fact from the locals.

Also considering that the paper was pre construction amount of 250 million with Sprint given the naming rights, how much did they pay for that gift?   All you guys using sprint phones, you paid for it.  okay.  How much was the final amount spent on the arena.  I have seen the building and I don't think it is near as distinctive as our arena.  Plus, the city rebuilt an entire area around the arena, tore up streets blocked off freeway entrances and exits, made getting around town a nightmare, what we have is nothing compared to what happened there.  Restaurants have been opened and there has been no, repeat no business for them.

Go to this forum and read all about the spectacle of the Sprint arena.  Kansas city forums (//%22http://forum.kcrag.com/%22)

I've visited QT in Shawnee Kansas are you sure they're not local?
Sprint paid $2.5 million a year for a contract of 10 years ( what did BOK pay?) You did read the link, right?

The total price for Sprint was $278 million ( as mentioned earlier)

The best part is they didn't make the residents pay for it over a 13 year period. In fact some residents of KC won't even have a penny of theirs go towards it, nice to have that choice....

I thought the same thing.  There are quite a few QT's in the KC area.  I remember going up there as a kid to see KC royals games (about 15yrs ago) and there being QT's.  To me that is local.  Just because a company isn't headquartered in that city doesnt mean they arent local? They have a regional office there, and also a huge warehouse in Missouri on the way to KC.

The advantage that the KC arena has over the BOK center are the businesses that lure people to the site even when their arena is not in use. The Power and Light district was a great move to help propel the traffic. Another thing about the Power and Light district is that it seems to have unique shops....unlike the dime-a-dozen, waste-of-land developments found all over town that seem to have the same ol' retail shops, just conveniently placed at different locations (i.e. The Tulsa Hills).

KC is a much larger metro area and they have 17 more stores, not a huge leap. Not to mention, QT is likely the largest retailer here. All he said is that they were from Tulsa. Parking meters are from Stillwater, but I'm sure they make more money in NYC.

The HQ location was never in question. An earlier post stated that QT was "not even local" to the KC area. I have to also argue that isn't entirely correct.  They are a huge presence there and have one of the regional offices there, have been there for over 30 years, and employ many people there.
