Ralph Nader announces he's running for President. (//%22http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/24/AR2008022400481.html%22)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Consumer advocate Ralph Nader said on Sunday that he is launching another long shot independent campaign for president of the United States.
Nader, who will turn 74 this week, announced his presidential bid on NBC's "Today Show" saying that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are addressing the problems facing Americans.
Nader also ran for president in 2000 2000 when he got about 2.7 percent of the national vote as the Green Party candidate and played a role in deciding the final presidential outcome. He also ran as an independent in 2004 and got only a tiny fraction of the vote.
Many Democrats blame Nader's participation in the close race between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George Bush in 2000 for tipping the election in favor of Bush. They believe that but for Nader's name on the ballot in Florida, Gore would have been the clear winner and president today instead of Bush.
Nader called Washington "corporate occupied territory" that turns the government against the interest of its own people.
"In that context I have decided to run for president," Nader said.
Idiot egomaniac
Chump made the chimp......
I'm one of those Dems that hold Nader partly responsible for the loss in 2000. He lost most of what he gained or hoped to gain over previous decades of being constructive with that stupid move.
But unless he's changed from way back he is probably serious in his motives however misguided. When I was at OU in the early 70's and he was scheduled to come speak on politics, corporate greed and environmental issues, one of my friends was supposed to pick him up at the OKC airport. Being a poverty stricken college student, he drove a Volkswagen bug. Nader refused to be ferried in that car. Not because of image but safety. He borrowed an old Benz and picked him up.
Nader Announces Plan to Wreck Election
But Prominent Crackpots are Cool to Bid
Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press" today, consumer activist Ralph Nader told host Tim Russert that he has officially decided to wreck the 2008 presidential election.
Mr. Nader had been huddling with prominent crackpots over the weekend to determine whether he had enough support among his natural constituency, self-absorbed whack-jobs, to mount an entirely meaningless campaign.
"If I wreck the 2008 election, I intend to wreck it in all fifty states," Mr. Nader told Mr. Russert today. "I have no intention of being merely a regional spoiler."
When asked if his candidacy could hurt the chances of the first African-American nominee for president, Mr. Nader put his fingers in his ears and started going, "Lalalalalalalala I can't hear you."
But across the country, significant numbers of crackpots who have supported Mr. Nader in the past appeared to be cool to his latest bid to wreck a presidential election.
"If I'm going to waste my vote, I want to be sure I'm wasting it on the right wingnut," said longtime crackpot Stacy Klujian, who has supported Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex) in his 2008 campaign. "It is time for Ralph Nader to step aside for a new generation of bananaheads."
For his part, Mr. Nader said that he had already begun preparing for his latest run as a spoiler by sneaking up behind people who were watching "No Country for Old Men" and telling them how it ended.
"It wasn't as challenging as spoiling an entire election, but it was fun," he said.

If he were serious about mounting a third party challenge, he'd have been working to put a third party infrastructure in place. Like a higher profile web presence, maybe trying to place candidates in city and state government, along with national offices. Increasing his off-year visibility, maybe with a couple of strong stances on issues. You know, creating and sustaining a vision, that kind of thing.
Ralph Nader is a total dildo.
Aaaaand . . . . Ralph Nader is a total dildo.
Do you think it will be a Ralph Nader, Cynthia Mckenney ticket. That would be devastating! It would take all of the crazy's out of the equation!

While I don't agree with him, I encourage any and all to run for the White House. I hate the two party system as it is usually a decision of who sucks the least - which is of course why Ralph Nadar will get some votes. He actually appeals to few people, more vote for him as a message I think.
AND, this is another reason people should support the electoral college. Non-viable candidates have trouble skimming votes if the system is used as it is supposed to be. Ignoring the primary bennefit of giving a voice to small states.
Not that it really matters in Oklahoma as he will probably not be on the ballot anyway under our draconian Republicans and Democrats only policy.
Paul Tay for President. [;)]
Speaking of presidential candidates, I just couldn't resist saying one more time how much I miss Segoline.
