I have no idea how to go about raising funds for 6 kids to go to the BMX Nationals in Guthrie, OK. All I know is I have 6 kids (not mine) that have their heart set on going. Of the $2,100 I was able to get $110 from one neighbor and a stranger. I do not know about raising funds because this has nothing to do with being a nonprofit.
I have no idea on how I am supposed to raise the funds for these kids. Does anyone know the law/limitations and how can I ask for sponsorship? The sponsors will receive recognition on radio, newspaper, tv station, etc. I cannot understand why someone would not want that coverage. I am trying to have confidence that I can do this, but feel like I am short of what to do to not displease these kids. Any advice? Suggestions? By the way, I am not soliciting funds in this forum.
Try traditional fundraising methods. Places like Krispy Kreme have discount cards you can sell to raise money, I believe Incredible Pizza does too.
Do a carwash, bake sale, those kinds of things. The kids may be underpriviledged but they shouldn't expect to get to go to a tournament for free, they should have to sell or work for at least part of the cash.
For sponsors, go to your local bike shops and talk to them. Companies look for what kind of impact they get for their dollar. Likely only businesses related to the event will want to put up money. This isn't Nascar and while it may be broadcast and in the press, this is still a small event in a fairly rural area.
If you are planning on going this year, you had better hurry....

I sponsored a local BMX guy a few years ago. For $25 (out of my own pocket), he put a small sticker on his front fender.
It was probably a decent buy for me, mostly because he was so slow everybody had a good chance to see my logo.

This is the link for Team Power Train, a youth racing organization that covers BMX, road, and possibly MTB racing. My kids were members back when they were doing BMX at the track in Owasso.
I'm wondering if some other sponsorship leads might be found through the Tulsa Wheelmen, Tulsa Area Triathletes, or the Mid-Town Social Club. I'm not suggesting that they could be sponsors, but they may have some leads.
