This is absolutely the WORST hospital in Tulsa. From the understaffed ER (4 hours waiting time) to the broken down elevators (only 3 of the 6 work). How does this dump continue to operate?

It's systemic.
I spent 3 hours in the St Francis waiting room once, then the urgent care opened across the street so I went over there.
They still wanted to bill me.
If there were 24hr urgent care centers who would see uninsured patients, then the whole ER system would change drastically.
4 hours is good!
I have NEVER had a bad experience with St. John's. Several people in my family have used them for everything for nearly three decades without a problem. From births to cancer treatments, hysterectomies and emergency room, they've had us covered, and we've always received excellent care.
I have to say I agree with the PP. I've been through the ER, twice, patient on Cardiac Care floor and delivered two babies, all with wonderful care each time.
Of course, both times I've been to the ER they were obviously emergency care cases, if at all possible, I go the Urgent Care facilities. I haven't been impressed with St. John's by the hospital, but I have used the Med Center on Utica and liked them.
Sorry you had a bad experience, but can I ask what the medical emergency was for?

My mother in law broke her hip. I am not saying that her care was substandard, just the facility. It seems like every time I have to visit someone there it is the same story; a run down substandard facility. I am talking about the main hospital building. I have been visiting friends and relatives there since 1977.
First off, there are at least 18 elevators. 12 in the main building and 6 more in the south building. If 3 were down or closed there were plenty of others. Secondly, when my wife broke both her wrists at the same time a year ago, they whisked us past the sniffly noses, rambling mental cases, and lacerated pinkies to immediate care. We could not have been happier given the situation.
Sorry about your experience. It is a level two emergency care unit, very good at serious car wreck, shootings, life or death situations. St Francis ER gets it share of bad comments too. Those who argue against health care reform need to go through one of these costly experiences. We found the experience for her surgery at the St. Francis Natalie bldng. superior.
I was born at St Johns. I think they did a swell job of it. I don't live far from there, will probably die there.... hmmm, Perhaps I need to travel a bit more. [:)]

So what is your better option? If your going to rate, then give us your better than this one.
Four hours isn't bad depending on why you where there. Plus there are other factors.
Why were you there?
What symptoms and how long?
What day/time did you go?
I've seen waits up to 5-9 hours at the local ERs if you're there for something minor.

Hillcrest is my hospital of choice. I know I will probably take a beating on this one but it is from personal experience that Hillcrest does a better job of taking care of you.
I generally use southcrest. You could be in the oldest room with the oldest equipment and it's still not THAT old.
I've been in the emergency rooms at Southcrest, St. Francis (same issue, doc wanted me moved to SFH) and St. John as a patient. I don't think SJMC was substandard than the others. Worst wait I had was at Southcrest.
Naturally when you arrive at St. Johns at 4am with chest pains you get to the front of the line, so wait was not an issue there.
You could have gone to St. John the next night and had a much quicker response. Just all depends on who is clogging up the system on a particular night.
