What is your impression of the new Tulsa Whirled ads?
I think they are clever!
Do you think they will increase online readership or delivery?
About halfway through the ad the annoying buzzing and dinging made me want to throw my 47" TV through the window. Nothing is going to make me read a newspaper more than I already do (absolutely zilch) unless it is online. Sorry Tulsa World :)
I think it's kinda ironic they have to turn to TV to try to get subscribers.
I'm extremely pleased that they are advertising. It shows that they are hurting. You don't just advertise because you want to make people feel good.

hey, I'd like to tack that on the end of the commercial [}:)]
First off, the ads are clever. Second, it's obvious that they are trying to brand their Web site as the No. 1 online local news source ... that's what they are advertising, not the paper. Third, I always shake my head at people who don't read the newspaper because they are typically out of touch and really don't know what's going on in the city.
I'm hoping it will improve The Tulsa Talons attendance. Thats still the mindset of most of the city. "We have an arena football team?"
I subscribe to the World. It isnt the best newspaper, but it has some tidbits I would miss otherwise.
I've been pleased with their local coverage as well as there recent coverage of Tulsa athletics. Well worth the $60 a year or whatever it is. Plus my wife likes the ads, since I throw away all those forsaken Macy's and Victoria Secrets ads as soon as I see them in the mail box.
Did you know you can spend $65 on A bra? Not for your car. For actual breasts. That's just crazy.

They probably employ as many folks locally as the cable company, and yet World Television Editor Rita Sherrow has apparently never heard of "DirecTv".
The Whirled's sometimes provincial attitude hasnt been limited to just the Entertainment section...
That said, it's still a good idea to read the paper, but with an understanding that their perceptions and objectives represent an incomplete picture of the community.
That first one aired left me with the impression they were trying to lead viewers to believe our 18,000-seat arena was really only 16,000 seats.
Who's going to count?
Besides, no event can actually seat 18,000 anyway, as built.
