I started going to Randall Segnar about a year ago...I like him very much. The hygienists there are really great too.

My family goes to Midtown Dentistry. There is an old guy and a youngish guy (who will be taking over eventually). Friendly staff, has treated me well for the 3 years I've been going there.
He is willing to explain things to you and let you know what needs to be done, why *should* be done, and what can wait and see. Not all drill happy. A back molar of mine real bad and I'm convinced he saved it (most probably would have yanked it. I guess it cracked somehow and rotted from the inside until it just shattered one day. I take care of my teeth, I swear!).

interesting guy... went to school at university of missouri- kc, did an extra year of dental general practice residency in a hospital... so he does more than your average dentist (titanium implants, etc.) and has broader medical background... but there is no hard sell for anything, just options...
he looks young but hes been in practice for like ten years... he takes care of a bunch of the docs and administrators at st. francis... one of my cousins told me about him and now nearly everyone we know goes there...
almost forgot, he had gone to ou for undergrad but was smart enough to get into dental school as a junior in college...

As for midtown denistry . . . Dr. Kapple is the older one, Dr. Shoop is the younger. I've been going there for many years. I agree with Cannon, they don't do things just to do them. Dentist is not my fav thing to do, but they are very nice and professional.
I'd suggest them doubly!

I went to Sharon Linde Wann at 35th & Peoria for years. Excellent dentist, but she's not on my current insurance plan.
I went to VanTuyl & Toole yesterday for my cleaning since I had gone to school with one of VanTuyl's kids. Turns out he's retired now, but I was very happy with the thoroughness. Especially since I just quit smokeless tobacco a few weeks ago. I will go back and already scheduled my next cleaning.
This place had somewhat of a production line feel to it as there were at least five or six chairs, several hygenists and then Dr. Toole. If that turns you off, look elsewhere.

Also, if they advertise-they are usually not busy or have a practice that can sustain on word of mouth. The docs that advertise will also tend to advise you to have more work done than you need. The exception might be one who is very young.

inteller....you have no idea how strongly I agree...unfortunately, the insurance company that reps most of the dentists does not encourage them to rat others out.
One bit of advice, if your teeth work, and there are no obvious cavities/probs, and you are Ok with how they look-leave it alone.
Cosmetic dentistry is great but can start a chain reaction of root canals, etc.
Yes, the tooth colored fillings are better and prettier, but often the removal and replacement can get a whole bunch of other issues going.
I have had 6 Root canals, gum surgery, two implants, braces, 10 crowns-none of it cosmetic(well, I admit to a vanity issue with having a bridge-which is why I got the implants...)(and fyi, bridges significantly weaken the teeth they attach to.) I had a FABULOUS dentist growing up-I just had very pretty but very soft teeth and grind at night.
Then-when I worked for a dentist-I had no prior experience but saw the REALLY scary things that people did.

You are pretty safe for hygiene most anywhere-the trainer here in Tulsa is great-just never be afraid to spend another $75 dollars on a 2nd opinion.
