Title: Old Wal Mart at 91st and Memorial
Post by: citizen72 on January 18, 2008, 10:31:02 AM
Driving by the empty former Wal Mart store this morning noticed they are changing out the roof top HVAC air handlers. Anyone know what is happening? Heard a Buy for Less was going in. Anyone?

Not one? Disappointment here. We have been hoping something useful will go back in there.

They are building a new entrance on the south side and a pool & spa place is moving into that end and the old home&garden area. Most of the building is still available, however.

if you are looking for a pool or a spa, then you are in luck!  They have been remodeling the lawn and garden section for about a month or so now.

I believe they are now doing more than that. They would not modify the HVAC I wouldn't think unless they had a particular use in mind.

If the building is being divided up then they would have to zone the HVAC system accordingly. So each store can have it's own thermostat.

Agree, but even providing a new zoning for this new store does not indicate a complete changeover unless the rest of the building in leased. It does look like they are accommodating a new tenant. Hence my original question.

FYI, the new tenant taking the remainder of the store is Big Lots who was driven out of their 71st location by ever-increasing rent prices.

yes I can't wait.  having to go all the way to broken arrow to find deals on factory closeouts was getting old.  This Big lots looks like it will be bigger than the other ones.

Sounds like you are very familiar with Big Lots. Would you care to share your information with us? I have never been in one of their stores. Will it fit into local shopping indicators?

it is like a dollar general, dollar tree, and discount store all in one.  They have some bigger items that you won't find at Dollar General.

If you have ever been to a valu city (I have only seen them in Kentucky) they are similar to that.  Although I will admit, valu city is a step above a big lots for the most part, but still similar.

And yeah, it looks bigger.

Big Lots has outstanding cheap flower pots, window planters, garden tools, sometimes even potting soil.

they also sell expensive garden tools....you just have to look carefully.

When they get a shipment of closeout computer stuff its a fiesta.  And they carry some non sucky furniture (usually last year's Ashley lines)

but you have to sift through a lot of cheap crap to find the deals.

I like to browse through their B movie DVDs up front just for a laugh.
