Title: Thinking about moving to Tulsa - feedback?
Post by: inolikeduke on January 07, 2008, 01:18:28 PM
Hi everyone:

Hubby is thinking about taking a job in Tulsa and I would like some feedback about the area and best areas to live in.  Our children are in college so we do not have to worry so much about schools. The east side would be preferable since we have lake property at Eufaula Lake.  We currently live in North Dallas and like the idea of moving to a smaller area as we relocated to Dallas 4 years ago from North Carolina.  Not sure how the weather compares to here. Any feedback would be appreciated.[:D]

Welcome!  I encourage you to look up previous threads as this discussion comes up over and over (not that we mind!).  Everyone has their opinions on where to live as Tulsa offers a wide variety of options for a town its size.

I always suggest Midtown Tulsa, but it is a matter of preference.  Further East of the City there is the ~80K suburb of Broken Arrow as well as smaller towns and pretty rural acreages if you are so includes.

Weather wise - we often share Dallas weather patterns.  Being further north, however, we do deviate significantly.  The Jet Stream is usually North of Tulsa and we share Dallas weather minus a few degrees.  HOWEVER, the stream comes South on a not-rare occasion and we get more Kansas-like weather and some cold snaps.  This variation is the reason for our thunderstorms in the springs/summer as the fronts shift up and down.

If you enjoy 4 seasons, you will enjoy Tulsa from a weather perspective. Though it is slightly weighted towards summer more so than winter.

oh, and welcome to TulsaNow!

Living on the east side of Tulsa would save you very little time in travelling to Lake Eufaula. You can traverse the entire city in less than 20 minutes. You might consider Muskogee or Pryor if you want to cut down on time to the lake but still want to be in striking distance to Tulsa. We are informally separated into about 5 different districts, that are surrounded by typical burbs. Choose your poison, they all have something to offer.

Since you want a convienent connection to Lake Eufaula, then I would suggest looking at Jenks or Glenpool.  Then you could shoot down 75, take the first exit off the Indian Nation and your almost there.  Unless your husbands work would place him on the East Side.  Someone else mentioned that Tulsa isn't all that large in land area, no where near OKC.  And Welcome, I moved here 7 years ago from Miami and love it.
