What developments and votes are important for Tulsa in 2008? What are key things that need to be accomplished to make 2008 a good year for Tulsa?
My thoughts:
1. Downtown ballpark
2. Road expansion/repair vote passes
3. Old city hall sold
4. New river plan created
5. Kanbar does something
Downtown Ballpark is number one on my list as well. I agree that your number two and three are also important for 2008.
I want some turnover in the city council elections this spring (change is good), a bunch of new trees planted to replace the ones lost in the ice storm, and a month of fabulous events in the BOK arena.
I agree...we need to get the Drillers to STAY IN TULSA! Fixing the roads would have to be right up there and making Downtown and the river a destination would be next.
The city council elections should get interesting.
1) streets
2) crime
3) Higher paying jobs
4) continued growth in aerospace and manufacturing
5) More downtown buildings coming down in close proximity of the arena for parking
6) Grocery liquor sales
7) Whole Foods expansion
8) Fewer discount stores
9) Brady Theatre and surrounding areas to be better utilized including a tolerance center...
10) I-44 completion
and global warming....

1. sidewalks for everybody
2. grocery store for north tulsa
3. bring tulsa/oklahoma's liquor laws into the 21st century
4. a ban on surface parking lots
5. "made in oklahoma" = tax break
6. rezoning to support mixed use communities
7. a unique to tulsa city/county holiday - complete with closed businesses, block parties, time and half pay for the retail workers, at least one dog parade and cookies for everybody.
the drillers have to stay - i don't think they have to have a stadium dt, but they can't go to a bedroom community unless they are willing to play in pjs and sing the "so long, farewell" song from "sound of music" during the seventh inning stretch.
No particular order....
1. We get a nice development along the river near downtown approved.
2. Form Based Codes into law for the Pearl District.
3. The streets issue taken care of with a nod towards less widening and light rail taken into account.
4. Mayo Hotel, lofts, etc. done or close to it, plus other downtown living options coming online.
5. The Matthews building artists lofts/museum underway and it would be nice if Mr Kaiser entices the trucking company across the street to move to another location, and then did something to redevelop that property as well.
6. "Cranes in the air" at the River District and Riverwalk. (I dont believe it till I see it)
7. Downtown baseball park approved that looks really nice and with retail etc. around it.
8. Expansion of good jobs, and the economy not too effected by housing problems.
Some wants and wishes...
1. Small grocery store downtown.
2. Continued infill and progress around Cherry Street and Brookside.
3. Some sort of progress on a good mid-town zoning overlay, or whatever, to encourage good infill and redevelopment.
4. Mc Birney Mansion gets smaller hotel addition approved.
5. New building and programs, and or housing at OSU Tulsa.
6. 14. We get an actual chance to have our dams funded by the feds.
7. TU announces the plans for its new PAC.
8. Hear some good definitive news about the Brady Theater.
9. A really snazzy, contemporary looking hotel by the Arena as an architectural compliment to it.
