I kinda like this bit:

Naturally, one of the comments included the perennial question "Why harass motorists instead of going after /real/ criminals like murderers?" Elsewhere in the paper, it said that the city has had 64 homicides this year.
Here's the statistic I'm looking for - how many died or were injured in motor vehicle crashes? From my point of view, there's little difference between killing with a knife or a gun and killing with an SUV or a station wagon. If I recall right (and I'll have to find the stats on this too) a majority of motor vehicle related deaths involve drinking or speeding. If law enforcement gets drunks or speeders off the road, it has an effect beneficial to all of us - it saves lives.
I'm fed up with the 'go find the real criminals' argument. The best counter argument, as always, is the truth.
