Title: Tulsa Foodie Website?
Post by: dayzella on December 26, 2007, 08:14:16 PM
Does anyone know of a foodie site for Tulsa?
And failing that, do you have a favorite restaurant and want to tell me about it?

We've had both good luck and bad luck trying out places on a whim and a prayer.

I'm guessing that's a no, then, on a website or forum set for tulsa and foo, specifically or in general.

Maybe I should narrow down the question.

Is there edible Chinese food in Tulsa?
If so, where is it?
And will the whatever it is deliver?

And if there is no answer known to anyone reading this question, please just point me back to the crickets.  The crickets and I, we're on first-name basis these days.

We need a foodie site, or at least a thread of restaurant reviewers.

Well, on Saturday, I met my parents for dinner at a restaurant in Broken Arrow called Copeland's. Although it is a chain restaurant based in the New Orleans area, it is a place I used to eat at while living there and somewhere I took my parents to when they visited me there.

I personally am not a big fan of chinese, vietnamese, etc but I absolutely love PF Changs.  I am sure you have heard of it and have probably tried it, but thought I would toss out my two cents on the subject.

PF changs is white people Chinese....combine that with the fact that you can get the same but better and faster at PeiWeis makes PF changs crap.

There is no good Chinese food that can be delivered.  The two concepts are mutually exclusive.

East China Gormet in Bixby was good but burned down.

Great Wall at 71st/Yale is one of the few good places left.

For ethnic Chinese Mong fare there is the Hmong Cafe over at 31st/Sheridan.  Very cheap.

You do know that Pei Wei is a subsidiary of PF Changs, and is part of the company that owns Flemmings Steakhouse? The PF in PF Changs stands for Paul Flemming.

Yes, I do know this, which makes it even more ridiculous that they push that dreck at PFCs.  Paul Fleming puts the white in PFC.

(Just asking, meant no offense)
Here in Phoenix, if you want to be seen you go to PFC. If you want the food without the fluff you go to Pei Wei. I'm too old for the fluff anyway, and it's nice to see families in Pei Wei's instead of people trying to impress people, that's part of the reason we don't go down to Old Town Scottsdale much, although there are a couple of places we like down there.

^^ that would make me happy.

PF Chang's has a place in the world ... but it doesn't do a whole lot for me.  I do like that they post their nutrition info online.

The Hmong Cafe sounds interesting.  Thanks for mentioning it, inteller.

You might also check http://www.742dine2.com/Menus.aspx for delivery options.  I am not a Chinese food fan either, but I do love PF Changs.

742dine does charge a fee for delivery, so know what you are spending, but I have always had good luck with them.  They were great to deliver a wonderful full El Chico dinner to my husband and I in the hospital right after I had our second child.  That was the best El Chico I had ever had!  [:D]

unfortunately, Tulsa is not a food centric town.  That might help explain why there are so few sites to go to for real tulsa food talk.

As for PF Changs and Pei Wei's, it is the exact same food at both places.  The major difference is one has waiters and the other you carry your own tray.  PF Changs is not a see and be seen place in Tulsa.

There has been discussion about restaurants already on this forum.  Here is one thread http://www.tulsanow.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7549 (//%22New%20Restaurants%22) and there are several others, mostly restaurant specific.  Just search around the site.

I apolgize, I mean to say Pei Wei, not PF Changs.  I personally cant stand PF Changs.  After reading over this today, I found my error!  At Pei Wei, if you order take out and wait, they are always willing to give us free fountain drinks, which doesnt seem like much, but its a very nice gesture.

And if I am not mistaken, Pei Wei is vietnamese not Chinese, but I could be wrong.

Also try Ri Le at 91st and Yale on the southeast corner to the east of Arbys.  Very good food, affordable pricing and locally owned for years.
