I know of a lot of people who do not have any of their Cox Communications services. This dates back to the storm, and many of them are in areas where there was no damage and no widespread power outages. In fact, a few of them live in areas where it's hard to even tell we had an ice storm.
My power came back on yesterday, but Cox is still out so I have no phone/internet/cable, which is minor, but Cox doesn't seem to have any idea when they're going to get service restored.
Anyone here have Cox that's working? What part of town are you in?

There are lots of South Tulsa areas without Cox. I'm at 81st and Toledo - all services dead since Monday. My Brother is near 91st and Memorial, also all services dead since Monday. I have friends near 71/Harvard, 91/Yale, 101/Yale, and they have the same thing.
Dish it up!
this has to be horrible PR for cox's phone service. If I were making decisions in AT&T's marketing dept. you better believe i'd be attacking the hell out of them, for having phone service down for going on 5 days in places now. I'm sure they will and rightfully so.
you'd think if they wanted to be considered a serious player in the phone business, they'd have better response / uptime, or at least be able to compete w/ AT&T. Instead Cox phone subscribers get nothing but an epic failure.
Internet reliability isnt a matter of life / death, (well to some it might be), but the lack of phone service most certainly could be.
I believe we have cox service at my place at 161st and admiral. I've not plugged up the cable modem to check the phone or internet yet.
What's even worse about Cox's phone service is they have no provision to service dead phones during off hours. So, if you get home at 5:00 and your phone is dead, too bad. They'll schedule an appointment for you, which can be several days off.
Their comment is, "You have a cell phone, don't you?"
And I tell them, "Yes, but I'm not paying YOU for cell phone service. I'm paying you for a land line, and THAT is the ISSUE here."
Every time I see a Cox ad I get angry, especially if it's one about their service vs. satellite, or how dependable they are, or how great their customer service is. BULL. It's all a lie.
I will never be beholden to one service....
The internet stayed up due to ATT....
No cable. Although they were the firs to arrive to attach my cable line....I'd notified them by email...
Bundle up? nah
Been without power since Sunday.....SBC has been tried and true...Telephone service and Internet too....

if having a land line is so important to you and you cant keep a cell phone going for days then yes you need some POTS. i don't have these issues so when Cox phone goes down for me I could really give a ****.

I insist on having at least one regular corded phone in the house for just such occasions.
Landline was as reliable as ever long after the house was dark and cold, and I remember thinking how screwed Cox customers must be right now.
Got to remember that when Ma Bell built the system their reliability standards were really high -- just short of withstanding WWIII. Cox was into quick-and-dirty market penetration and now that people will be figuring that out im sure a lot will be unbundling their services.
Even a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) at the cable modem wouldnt have helped Cox customers as they peter out after a few hours, while landline gets it's power from bank after bank of batteries and generators at the neighborhood central office.
AT&T is going to murder them in the "we told you so" department.
I got Cox back about two or three hours after power came back up. My next door neighbor to the south still doesn't have her Cox. I'm guessing her line got knocked down. My next door neighbor to the north doesn't have his SBC. What good is electricity w/o digital cable and internet anyhow? [:P]
I'm feeling very, very fortunate I have all services restored and I didn't lose lines between the pole and the house.
Sheesh, I'm watching the replay of last night's news on 6, they are saying some people in Florence Park might not have power until after Xmas due to extensive damage between the pole and the house.
This is exactly why I didn't let Cox sucker me into buying the bundle!!
ATT is a little better, but not a whole lot because phone and internet are still coming through the same line. The only difference is the tv is through a dish. I didn't think that dish's worked that great during storm anyways because of interference.
Really now, landlines are so passe!
I've had really crappy cell phone coverage this week (AT&T) due to tower outages. Our landlines at work were out till Weds. I'm not sure if that had more to do with power being out at the switch or what happened. The switch is across the street and they had a generator there for awhile. Not sure what that was all about. Our industrial park was a ghost town till Thursday.

I have never had a cell phone, nor do I have Cox internet or TV, so I won't comment on that.
I have just one old fashioned Ma Bell land line at my home, and it went out Monday morning due to a fallen tree branch downing the drop from the pole to my house. I called AT&T Monday night, and they said someone would be out to fix it on Thursday. They arrived Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM, reconnected my house, and viola, I had clear phone service again. Apparently AT&T has had very little problem with main feeder lines, mostly just problems with downed drops to individual homes.
I will never give up my land line, as long as I can afford it.

no you're not. It takes electricity to power DSL modem/router.
everyone here defending/praising the death star makes me want to puke.
bragging about having a land line is like bragging that you still use a typewriter or a vaccuum tube television.

I can see how you might be able to go without the phone a few days, but how's that been not being able to play the Hammond? [;)]
Windstream had a nice big add poking at Cox in today's paper. It was rather amuzing.

My Cox service stays up for about a day after power goes out. Even if it'd been out for two weeks, it still would've been up more than my SBC service which went out in poor weather, clear weather, and days ending in Y.

Actually, Ma Bell built to nuclear standards. Their microwave and cable systems were built to withstand a close nuclear attack. Just south of Tulsa is a big example of it, 35K square feet of bunker, partially underground, designed to withstand Tulsa being nuked. It had microwave and cable. The site included an underground shelter, decon showers, 450KW of generating power, etc. It was a major switching center for the military telephone network of the day, Autovon, as well as a major civilian network hub. And yes, it has a big old tower, unlit. (which will stay unlit, to be a good neighbor to the Astronomy Club of Tulsa)
The shelter remains, but most of the electronics have been pulled (With some historical items kept, such as the old Echo Fox system that was the communications system for Air Force 1 for many years). The decon showers, etc are still there.
Since deregulation, much of that has been sold
off. The system that exists now is reliable because of the old infrastructure build out. Most of the new build is no where near as reliable, although it is still overbuilt.

Windstream needs to go away. Pathetic excuse for a company. They will take every chance they get to promote telephone lines, because they sure can't compete anywhere else!

I just got my Cox services back this afternoon after being without for a week. Amazing how much I missed the Internet.
But here is my question. When my electricity goes out, I don't get billed for electricity during that time. When my ONG goes out, I don't pay for gas I didn't use. When my water is off, I don't pay for water I couldn't use. How does that work with Cox? I didn't have internet/phone/cable for 25% of the month, so does my bill go down by 25%? Anybody call Cox and ask? If so, what was there answer?
that is my question, Wilbur.
i'm going to assume it's going to be a week before I get cable / internet back. its been out for 8 days, now. i pay approx. 2.25 a day for cable / internet...my bill is going to be 31.50 less...one way or another.
Channel 2's Problem Solvers had a story on about this just this morning. You have to call Cox billing and request a credit if you want one. I don't think they'll just automatically give you one.
Cox has lousy customer service, so it should be a real enjoyable experience when you call in. How many times can you give your name, address, last four digits of your social security number, etc., in one phone call?
And Cox should use something other than social security numbers for identification, it's not a safe thing to use in this day and age.
After just spending 2 hrs on the phone with AT&T because my rate suddenly jumped from one month to the next, I can't wait to get on the phone with Cox about billing for services I didn't get. They are supposed to hang my line back up tomorrow, but said I am still in an 'outage' area. Let us know how the battle goes so we can come in with ammo.

The tenderest moment with Cox Customer Dis-Service, after you have entered your account number, last four of SSN or Secret Password, is when lastly, they seriously intone:
Do I have your permission to access YOUR account?Come ON!
Wonder what shyster attorney thought up that hairbrained auto-reply, to further burden us with nonsensical questions?
And, if you just happened to answer NO, what happens THEN?
Sorry, Sir, we can't help you.

Why no sir. But they did have a big old
asphalted parking lot....
Believe it or not, I actually had a great experience with Cox CS on the phone a couple of weeks ago. I had agreed to upgrade to digital cable- no installation, no tricks, etc. They came to set it up- no go. Tech says it's a problem with coax in the attic. Month goes by, no one has showed up to fix it. I didn't think about it till I got my new bill for about $200!
I called right away, got everything straightened out, credits for no digital service for that month, the installation fee mistakenly charged, some gratuitous charge they'd added for my internet, and they got a tech out two days later. Turns out it was the box, not the coax.
I'm happy now and just got my adjusted bill.
One thing I've learned when you call into customer service with any company is don't be a pr!ck. Be nice and polite and you can get just about anything you ask for within reason. If you act like a jerk, expect to be treated like one.
just got off the phone w/ cox customer 'service' rep.
I reported that I have been w/o cable for 8 days, that I have had power back since Sat. night.
they have to wait for PSO to grant them clearance into the area before they can start working, in the neighborhood...fair enough. I can live w/ that.
So, I bring up the question of my bill. 'well the power company is going to increase your rates, b/c this is costing them 3 mil a day'. ummm. so, what does this have do with Cox communications? this isnt costing cox, '3 million' a day.
what does that have to do with anything besides PSO? is this their call-center managers are telling them to say?
the customer is going to be less ticked off, when hearing this news?
oh the power company is raising rates!? well, in that case i dont mind paying twice the amount i'd normally pay for 2 weeks of service! thanks cox!
you've gotta be kidding me...
he then said he was going to transfer me to billing. i said, no i am going to talk to billing once my service is restored, then i will call back & talk to billing.
freakin' shysters.
I just got Cox back today after being out since the 10th. My issue with Cox is their total lack of customer service during this time.
When you called in all they would tell you is there is an outage and there is no timeframe for repair. That was it.
At least PSO gave regular updates and so on.
Nothing came from Cox which is troubling to me.

Doesn't apply in Cox's case. I'm usually pretty nice, but after giving them my information several times, being put on hold for long periods, transferred to someone else where you have to start all over again, I get fed up with it. My time is worth something, too. They don't seem to remember that.
When I get good service, I tell them how much I appreciate it, and I make a point of telling them they are an asset to the company they work for. Often, I follow up with a written letter as well.
When power was finally restored, I was pleased to find that DirecTv still had all it's satellites in orbit, and the picture just as good as ever.
Word. ;-)

It was tough, believe me. After my power came back on Friday morning and I got the household matters back to normal, I spent most of Friday evening at the organ, playing everything from "Jingle Bell Rock" to Bach.

I am not a Cox customer, but with AT&T land line phone service, they will adjust your bill for outages from the moment you first report the outage to their office until the line is repaired & service is restored, BUT you have to call their billing office and request the adjustment. They will not automatically adjust your bill unless you specifically request it.
Called Cox today, explained the outage problem. They asked how many days we were out. They then gave me a credit for each day based on a daily rate (taking my bill and dividing by 30).
Fast and easy and they were pleasant to work with. No question/hesitation on Cox's part.
Thank you Cox!
Not sure it's worth the $5.83 for me to call.

i have been very critical of cox in this thread.
however, when i called today to request my credit, it couldnt have been easier. my experience was in line w/ wilbur. fast, easy, no questions asked and a 29.33 credit makes me a happy camper.
I lost my cox service 1st thing on the Sunday night that the ice began and called ASAP(before I lost electricity). This Monday evening (week later)I called and talked to a real person that was polite and responsive. She told me that I was already scheduled for a visit on Wednseday between 10 and Noon, and I was glad I called because I needed to crate my dog inside. Well, I crated the dog in the morning and left work at noon to let her back out. The line was still laying across my yard, so I called cox. "Oh, they shouldn't have told you 10-12, we can only tell you down to the day when a service person will be out." That afternoon, my other half got a call asking if the service had been restored "of course she is standing in front a class full of HS kids and tells them she has no idea if its restored or not. Then that evening when I got home (line still on the ground) I called again - "We can't say which day someone will be out, that is just an estimate" When I brought up that I hear a new song every call, the customer service guy started to whine about how he still doesn't have power! So who knows when someone will be at my house and when they do show up, they probably won't do anything because my dog will be out! I would have a lot more patience if they weren't changing their story to a greater window every time I call. I'm ready to take a look at digital satellite, I may not be able to get rid of COX yet, but at least I won't be giving them $150 a month anymore.

I am still without cable. I'll be switching to ATT, I think I'll get better service and it looks like I'll save money. Anybody else made the switch?

Still laying in my yard...
This is my last day at work, so I guess I'm signing off the interweb until further notice.

The FCC mandates providers of land line telephone service ask these questions.
