Title: Where Are You Working From Today?
Post by: Conan71 on December 10, 2007, 09:42:41 AM
Much as I dislike Starbucks, with no power at home or work, looks like that's my office for the day.

I had no idea about this T-Mobile wi-fi, $9.99 for a 24 hour pass.  What a racket!

Go to panera. Wifi is free.

I'm working from home. I have power most of the time and a tree is ice-welded to my truck.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have power at home...but not so lucky to have it at work also. Ha. So I'm here in my cubicle, as usual.

I have no power and am logged on to some neighbor's wifi.

I have lost two big trees...one hit the wife's car and the septic system in the front yard and the other wiped out the pool fence and the flag pole in the back yard.

The kids are heating marshmallows in the fireplace and I have wind up flashlights and radios going while we play board games.

At home.  A tree from the other side of the fence managed to relieve itself of two big branches and hit the side of my house including my brand new Andersen Renewal window!  Luckily, nothing was broken...yet.

I got trees still falling. I left for the store to buy some lunch for the family and a 30 foot limb fell right where I had been parked. The limb where I had our swing (28 feet in the air) just fell as well.

I found a tree guy who got here by 1pm to at least clear the garage door and the front door area.

I am amazed at the tree carnage. The kids want to go outside but there are so many limbs falling, I am making them stay in the center of the house.

Still have no power.

I called eleven hotels...everything from Comfort Inn to both Doubletrees and Embassy Suites...nobody has any rooms available.

Lost about half of one of my favorite old trees by the side of my house, dont know what its called, its an evergreen. I am mainly worried about a small tree that is near the fenceline on my property which is now leaning on the neighbors powerline. If my tree takes out their power, am I liable for it? lol.  I would probably pay to have any damage done to the house if the line tore anything on the house anyway though.  The PSO crews came through my neighborhood a month or so ago and cleared most out. I wish they had gotten that small tree. I thought they would, it was obvious it was kind of "leaning" but they just cut one limb off that was closest to the line and left the rest hanging over.

Looking out my window on my lunch break, many of the trees in my neighborhood have lost a lot of limbs.

RM - Can you PM whoever you are using?  My sister can't even get in her front door, luckily she stayed elsewhere last night, or her car would be totalled and she would be climbing out windows to get anywhere.

What a mess, I had to pack up the kids and head to Broken Arrow looking for heat . . . drove through yards to get out of the neighborhood, trees down everywhere.  My neighbor called and said a big tree landed on our house since we left, YUCK!

propping up trees...that is definitely the best use I've seen for a dodge product yet.

We got hard power back at the office yesterday around 2:30 pm or so and are back off the generator.  Looks like days/weeks at my house.  Fortunately, my mother never lost power, so that's where I'm sticking it out.

I did manage to get a small generator hooked up to my house to run the basement sump pump and heater long enough to keep the temp from freezing.  I have to go by once a day to heat and pump.  Apparently there's a french drain or something which drains into the sump along with grey water from the kitchen.  I had three inches of water standing in my basement yesterday before we got the genny hooked up.

My big oak tree out front lost a lot of smaller limbs and there is one 12" or so diameter limb which will have to be cut off as it's got a major split and will come down on the roof with a good wind or more ice.

One of my neighbors has a good-sized genset at his house.  There was talk on the block someone wanted to shoot out his porch light for being a show-off. [}:)]

What a mess!  I've never seen anything like it.
