Ok...I heard something that can't be described as anything other than an unsubstantiated second-hand rumor, BUT one I hope is not true: DFest might be moving to OKC because of some sort of concession the City of Tulsa was/is unwilling to make.....
This seems highly implausible to me, but if somebody knows something, please shoot this rumor down.
Implausible? Look at our history.[xx(]
I e-mailed the organizers and this was their response...
Thanks for the update on that rumor.
Are we moving, no, we're here to fight the good fight, but, yes, we were offered a sizable
incentive to move the event to OKC. I went to the City of Tulsa for assistance because
we do need support to keep the event viable and the Chamber is helping Dfest out in various
ways to keep us here and alive. We don't want to move the event and no one else in Tulsa
wants to see it move to OKC either. Dfest is still Oklahoma's music conference and
festival and it's hosted in Tulsa and we have artists from all over the State come to Tulsa
for this event.
So, you can dispell the rumor that we're moving and as long as Tulsa supports our event and the local corporate sponsors also support our event, we're here and we are digging our feet in and making 2008 more fun and exciting.
We need to help these guys. This is one of the best events in Tulsa and really puts us on the map.
Thanks for going to the source RM. Glad to hear it!
Just want to point out, to any OKC defenders and Tulsa haters out there, that once again we are seeing how other municipalities are attempting to poach Tulsa's homegrown success.
Don't ever say the deck isn't stacked against growth in Tulsa. That's why we have to be vigilant and organized. It's not just Tulsa letting itself go--it's literally other towns, sensing weakness, trying to suck us dry.
Thanks, OKC. Now back the **** off.
SO WHAT.....move a NEW NAME festival into the Brady district where they belong.
I got the same response, word for word.
Sounds like they did say they needed continued support and someone blew it out of proportion.
Change the name to T Fest, put it in the Brady.....Let's see, 4 stages...Cain's, Brady, outdoor Brady Village stage between the two, and the TDA land 3 blocks east of there....
Also, get corporate sponsorships, private tents, and food vendors. Pick out of town participants....
I think a new festival in Brady would be fun, but the Blue Dome area worked pretty well last year.
Wouldn't it be cool to have festivals all over downtown?
Mayfest, Blue Dome Arts, DFest are all great for downtown. I know plenty of folks who never make it downtown except for these events.

And invite the remaining members of the Grateful Dead...

Sounds good to me. As long as I can get a line in the SBD for a crunchy heady DAT master.
Hey now - Are you kind? I'll steal your face on the golden road.

**Sniff Sniff**...Whats that funky smell....I can't place it but I know I have smelled it before.....Smells like Axe body spray.....Hmmmmm....
Rediculous!
D-Fest is run by Tulsa peeps. OKC would have to do a rediculous sell job and Tulsa would have to do a rediculous hose job to cause D-Fest to move. As long as we continue to support this amazing fest it will remain. I think the move downtown helped tremendously. Blue Dome is a great venue for it.

You guys need to realize that the response said that they were offered a "sizable incentive" to move to OKC. Tulsa has to compete with that incentive if they want to keep it around.

it is ridiculous- not rediculous...
but it does make me think you've been posting on tulsaworld...
^nice! I left it alone--so many idiots, so little time.
It's the best thing Tulsa has going.
