Title: Free Lunch At Chipotle's
Post by: Conan71 on October 24, 2007, 09:54:35 AM
I read in the World this morning that Chipotle's is giving away free burritos from 11am to 7pm today.

Chipotle's official grand opening is Friday.  The first 200 through the door on Friday get a free T-shirt.

Their address is 10902 E. 71st St. (@ 71st & Garnett).

I was thinking about getting the free burrito today, then going back Friday to get a T-shirt.  I was going to wrap the burrito in the shirt and donate it to the '07 time capsule.  That should keep 50 years in an inert environment, shouldn't it?  [:P]

I just went to their website - really cool. Especially "pentapping" under "work".

Can't wait to try this and see what all the fuss is about.

Been by three times waiting to see if the line would die down. My 1yr old isn't big on waiting in line.

I don't wait because I'm desperate to get something, but I'm kinda getting to enjoy it. I did the iphone/apple store opening line, cheesecake factory opening, etc.

I have other things that I could be doing, but standing in line is free.

Speaking of Cheescake Factory, the clerk at Fadler's was claiming they supply CF with their cheesecakes.  They've got them in a case next to the register.  Don't know if it's true, but they sure looked great to me.

Cheesecake factory has two nakeries which makes their own cheesecakes. Fadlers may be locally warehousing/delivering them though.

Nakery? Is that a nude bakery? Is that legal?

Must be human nature or such.  Every place I have worked, the prospect of free food entices people like moths to a flame.  When my employers would have catered-in lunches, heaven help us when there were leftovers!  People would start grabbing the free food like they were going to the electric chair.

Did anyone actually get one of the free burritos and was it worth the wait?  Why do all these new chain restaurant outfits that come to town gravitate to the 71st/Memorial-Garnett area?  Quite a lot of us live elsewhere in Tulsa, that is north and west of 71st & Memorial.

That area is retail hell.  I try to avoid it AMAP.  I doubt I drive through that section of 71st St. more than 8-10 times a year, if that.

Me too Conan71.  I live at 26th & Yale and I rarely drive south of 51st street, or east of Memorial.  I haven't been to Woodland Hills Mall or that whole shopping area in at least 5 years.  I can find all I really need much closer to home.

I haven't eaten at Tulsa's Chipotle yet but I've eaten in oth4r cities many times.

I like thm based on taste, but also the higher level of quality, outdoor seating, and sustainability the store concentrates on.

These stores are like subways. pretty low overhead and alway busy. expect more. 71st is just a good gauge for how many more they need.

you should venture out more, the SMUG ring around midtown must be hard to drive through.

It isn't just an "elitist" thing to not enjoy leaving midtown.  The city and traffic design to the south and east just lead to a more unpleasant experience.  Sitting in traffic jams because of poorly designed shopping areas just sucks in comparison to dropping by a place like Pie Hole or Bros. Houligan.

Exactly.  I can shop or visit restaurants in downtown/midtown Tulsa without ever having to experience the traffic or sprawl/ugliness of south Tulsa.  Quick drive from my home and back.  Which is why I choose to avoid driving south or east of 51st & Memorial.  Why all the new chains that come to town choose to locate on 71st St. escapes me.

The Pie Hole is great.  Zach Matthews the owner, lives a few doors down west of me in Lortondale.

I like living near 15th & Harvard, most everything I need is within a couple of miles of the house.

I like having the tough choice between Umberto's or Pie Hole when I'm in the mood for Pizza.

I got my Chipotle today along with free t-shirt and free burrito coupon. It wasn't that busy.

The T-shirt was wrapped in foil with a label on the side stating "looks like a burrito, tastes like a t-shirt." The paper bag I carried out in (all recycled materials) includes possible reuse instructions:
* Cat Carrier
* Put handles over ears... hands free burrito eating
* 401(k) statement filing receptacle
* NOT Recommended as a parachute

Apparently they knew my name too, the receipt said "Foil Shizzle"

Grizz,

Don't save the foil for Recyclemichael, I'm in need of a new hat.  Email it to me.

So did you like it or not?  Should I wait for them to open one on 11th St. or make the donkey-pain drive out to retail hell?

My son is wearing a Bueno Head costume from Taco Bueno.

I wonder if Chipolte's will give him a free burrito?
