OK, so what's the best thing on a stick at the fair? What's the newest deep fried delicacy that one must not miss?
[8D]
What's a State fair without Korn Doggies, and Cotton Candy and buttery popcorn and hot dogs deep fried.[xx(]
If you are getting a corn dog. go to one of the stands that employees are wearing a shirt that says "Jacks".
This guy has about a third of the corn dog stands and his are clearly better. He buys the best dogs and oil and has the best equipment.
I'm skipping this year, both in protest and also because I just don't feel like it.
The steak sandwich from the Oklahoma Beef group over by the barns.
I had an over price corn dog and an over priced polish sausage. As well as an insanely over priced beer to wash it down. Friend had one of them fried cheese bacon mashed potato thingys and I thought he was gonna need a private moment.

Wish I could do that concerning my job.

You can, although the fair will still let you come back.
Many people at the Fair are ticked off because of the Belle's thing. I don't fully understand the issue. I guess Belle's owned the rides or something and lost the contract to stay at the fair. Everyone liked Belle's Rides. I guess they had to tear down a million dollar roller coaster too. Gwen Freeman offten talked about it on her morn. radio show. I can only hear her radio show streaming on the web..[xx(]
It's not like the fair board voted Bell's out, so I don't blame nor punish the fair. I rarely ride anything there anyway. The exhibits, animals, food and people watching are way better anyway.
All I ate was a funnel cake. Kinda trying to get rid of this "dear god I'm out of shape" feeling and fair food is not the answer (as I drink my morning Coke).

Actually, that's exactly what the Fair Board did.
Oh, and Sgrizz +1 on the protest/lack of motivation. That and my left knee is jacked up.
I have nothing against the fair board itself, just Jerry Murphy and Randi Miller. And after two seperate multipe injury accidents so far this year (one involving very small kids) I think others would be willing to join an "evict the murphys" campaign.
Shouldn't the title of this string be: "Whadjeat at the fair"?

That needs to be taken up with our TulsaMINI. I guess there's a good reason for it's current title.[:O]
We ended up going so we could see Kansas in concert.
We ate a steak dinner thing - it was not very good.
The fair itself was mediocre at best. Without Zingo there wasn't much exciting. Ride lines were not long.
They added the small amount of parking from Bells - but would not let anyone park on the grass so they took more away than they added.
Murphy Brothers just spread out more - no new rides and what they have was same old same old...
Was not impressed. It will probably be another 3-4 years before we waste time and money there again.
Do not mean to start a fight, but I have it from good sources that McKinney's has the best corn dogs . . .
When did you not mean to start a fight?
Just kidding.
Where are the corn dogs from McKinney's?
I will eat one of Jack's and one of McKinney's and be a fair (pun intended) and impartial judge.
If there is something I am an expert on, it is food on a stick.
Jack's vs. McKinney's....who's corndog cuisine reigns supreme?
Talked to some teens that had attended and were wearing a wrist watch type of wrist band. They were wondering why the big roller coaster was not brought in this year?
I would submit many people living in Tulsa, don't live in the same realm that we do.

I heard you have TWO corndog signs in your yard!
I had a McKinney's corn dog last night. I never could find Jack's, but that is normally where I get mine. McKinney's sort of fell apart at the end. It was very big (I got the jumbo) and freshly fried (yum) but not as flavorful as Jack's.
I also had a carmel apple (no nuts) and I was so excited to find the fried cheddar bacon mashed potato balls I had to try them. They were good, but after a corn dog, a carmel apple and a couple of beers, I could not fully enjoy it.
I live close enough I can literally "smell" the fair.
Still not enough to get me to go this year. [:(!]
Why don't they just sell the crap that ends up sinking to the bottom of all the fryers at the end of the day and call it Greasy Pieces.

Made my annual trip out to the fairgrounds. Took a survey on the upper level of the IPE Expo Building now currently called the QT something.
I had a $1.00 coke from the machine in front of the building they are going to tear down after the Fair. That is all I had at the Fair as the prices seemed way high for the quantity of food provided. If I were to eat there I believe the Pork Sandwich was the very best deal based on quantity and quality at $4.00, even that seemed high compared to the street prices. They also served fries for $1.50 and they had pop Free Refills for just $2.00 with ice. But the machine right outside the door had coke products for just $1.00. I settled for the $1.00 Coke.
Last Friday Night for the Kansas concert:
need for MORE motorcycle parking!
Had serveral big ole cold beers. @ jumbo corndogs and CHOCOLATE CHEESE CAKE ON A STICK.....Very good.
I enjoyed my night at the Fair, clean, smaller atmosphere "country small fair" type atmoshpere struck me this year. It was enjoyable. I know the beer helped.
Corn dogs and funnel cake.
I'm just warming up for Oktoberfest where the good stuff is at.

Jack's won hands down. Mckinney's was very good and we tried it first. The cost was five dollars and it was a full foot long. The coating was light and the outside had a thin crust. It looked like a beef (beef by-product) hotdog.
The Jack's dog was slightly larger in size and was the same price. The hotdog was lighter (probably a turkey dog) and the outside had a real crunch to it.
They were both good and deserved of our respect.
We went first to the Kid's area in the exchange building. There is a one dollar coke machine inside and you can get small portions of the regular fair food.
Cotton Candy was only two dollars, corn dogs and small funnel cakes two fifty each and a whole order of french fries for only two dollars. It is the place to eat if you have small children or just like regular portions.
We tried some pizza from a booth near the trade center and it was probably the worst pizza in modern history. At three fifty a slice I almost went back and demanded they change the sign to say "overpriced and worthless crap".
We had a pretzel and some fried cheeses curds and purchased three bottles of water.
We ended up spending around forty dollars for a family of four on food. We also spent about the same on coupons and games and blew our last twenty on a round-trip Sky Ride.
