Lucky's - good food, a bit pricey. I will go back, it was only their second night to be open. I plan on going back in a couple of weeks.
Lava Noshery - I had dinner there the other night as part of the Restaurant Week that is happening. Had an excellent experience for $30. A nice salad, a grilled salmon filet over artichoke and broccoli hash and a slice of cheesecake. I will go back.
KEO - My new favorite place to eat in Tulsa. Upscale Asian with out being over priced or another cheap imitation of PF CHangs which I am bored with. Try the sampler appetizer. I had the shrimp crepe and it came with enough lettuce to wrap and was red leaf not iceberg. The peanut dipping sauce was delicious. Their iced tea is also very good. I highly recommend you check this place out.
Could you post locations?
Visited Local Table at 44th and Peoria -- delicious and great service.
If I may chime in on the new restaurant thread, I went to the Local Table for lunch today and it was great! We also were doing our part with Restaurant Week. I had the goat cheese and sundried tomato flat bread, trout with spinach and tomato, and strawberry shortcake. Yummy! I was happy to see it was quite busy at lunch.
I think Restaurant Week is a great idea and I hope it is successful. Good way to raise money for the Food Bank and to try new restaurants you've been meaning to try. Not to mention, supporting local businesses as most of them are. Goes on through Saturday. More info at www.tulsapeoplemagazine.com/rw
Regarding locations from the previous post:
Lucky's- formerly Camerelli's on Cherry St.
Lava- formerly Table Ten in Brookside
KEO- in the new Center 1 in Brookside
Where (more precisely) is Local Table?
Old Fuddrucker's locale?
What's the cuisine?
I was a bit confused by the advertising for restaurant week which said "please visit one of the participating restaurants and they will give to the community food bank, thank you"
Seemed completely devoid of actual information.
10% of all Restaurant Week food sales are going to the Food Bank. Other restaurants involved in Restaurant week are
A Bar and Kitchen (which still looks closed)
BIga
Bodeans (if they got moved)
The Brasserie
The Chalkboard
Ciao
Dalesandros
Flemings
The French Hen
Fifty5 Degrees
The Garlic Rose
IN the Raw
Kokoa
Lava Noshery
Local Table
The Polo Grill
Osage (at Gilcrease Museum)
and The Melting Pot
From the website
quote:
Restaurant Week is an opportunity to visit new or favorite restaurants and enjoy three-course menus at special prices. Participating restaurants are offering several prix fixe three-course menus at special prices: $12.95 for lunch and $29.95 for dinner. Each prix fixe meal purchased will result in an automatic 10 percent donation to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma to help fight hunger. The prix fixe offerings feature three-course meals with a choice of several delicious appetizers, entrées and desserts.
Oh, and Southerngirl, thanks for the help posting locations.
I guess I need to broaden my horizons, I haven't heard of five or six of the places on the restaurant week list.
Anyone eat at that new Irish restaurant down at 13th & Harvard yet? Called McDonald's or something like that. [:P]
I have heard of and driven by Bodeans, the Chalkboard, and I have been to a luncheon held at the Gilcrease Museum about 12 years ago.
Never heard anything about any of the others on the list, other than what I have read here.
On another note, to increase flow of potential customers to areas of Tulsa, one reason I discovered today that causes folks to work, eat and purchase goods in their home zone is ghe geographic barriers in Tulsa. Best thing Tulsa could do about the Arkansas river would be to add more bridges running across it up by 49th West Ave and close to downtown connecting the north and south banks together.
I found myself driving around 20 extra miles today just to get over towards Chandler Park and then back to Charles Page near Gilcrease Drive. Had there been a bridge or bypass, would of cut off 16 miles from my round trip. Not to mention a dozen or more traffic lights.
Has anyone tried the new Cheesecake factory restaurant? I don't know anything about it, but the lines outside tonight was quite amazing to watch. Is it just because we have a new place in town to try, or they're that good?[:O]

New place in town. It'll die down soon. It's just a restaurant and people will figure that out.
It's not like it's a new phone that people will wait in line for hours for and then never regret paying too much...

Cheesecake factory always has a wait in line, no matter the location or how long it's been open. That is actually their modus operandi. Keep in mind Texas Roadhouse has been open for years and still has 1-2 hour wait many nights. CF has been doing 3+ hours.
I've eaten at the one here and in other places. It's good food. Not worth waiting 3 hours, but still pretty good.

I'm sure there will be waits. There are in any favored restaurant in town. It will die down though.

Is it true that there is a new Greek restaurant in town? Someone mentioned it today, but I forgot the name. She said it was mentioned on the radio...am wondering if she "thought" they said Greek restaurant, but it was the festival...
Anyone knows?

Helen of Troy on S Lewis around 65th or so on the west side of the street. Sam, the owner is a fun guy and the food is pretty darn good. I like the lamb kabob and the gyro dinner.

Not bad. Top end is around 11 or 12 if I remember correctly. Now I have a craving for a Gyro sandwich for lunch but I will be at the fair checking out the wedding cakes. IF you have never been to the cakes show at the fair, go, it is amazing.
What happened with A Bar? I thought it was great, and seemed pretty busy (although not always an accurate measurement of business or how funds are handled).
I read in Friday's Spot that Alioli was also closed.
A_Bar screwed up when they switched bar tenders every other week; well that and most of the food was mush.
Alioli was good...a wee bit pricey but a great place to have a bite and a drink. Freindly...YES! FREINDLY place that had GREAT food...dispite the local gone virus email banter about "crazy" Terry Turner (crazy in a good way).
I hope Keo rocks and begins a new period in Brookside. LaoThai....I wish they were more consistant...I ate there several times...never did they hit the mark w/ good food or service.
The location would do well as a Pizza joint; Brookside does not have one....yet.
We visited SoCo's Sports Bar last twice last week. SoCo's is in the location of the old Embers at 81st and Harvard.
Tuesday night, no crowd, good service good food.
Friday not crowded but more people. AWFUL service and never got to the food they were so slow. We werent the only ones. A group of 8 that meets every Friday at another locale walked out.
If you want to go there, you better get there soon, they wont be around very long.
A somewhat new restaurant that my wife and I like to visit sometimes is 'Average Joes'. It's at 81st and Garnett. Great food and service as well as a good selection on the menu. They also have a a lot of TV's playing football games, news, etc. We never have to wait long and you can go right in and sit down. It's connected to a driving range and a putt-putt course so you/kids can enjoy some putt-putt after dinner.
Here's their website.
http://averagejoeseatery.com/index.htm
I know that sounds like an ad but I just like the place. I also like the fact that it's locally owned and not some big chain. Check 'em out.

Thanks for the review. I have been wondering about this place. Now it will be put on my list of places to check out.
Braserrie owner purchases lease on PRIVE.....
High end Vietnamese?
Another great place by SOCO's is down at 81st and Lewis. Mack's Grill. I think it opened about the same time as SOCO's. It is where Da Boat was before. I went a few weeks ago. We went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. They have really awesome fire pit tables outside and the food is freakin awesome! I talked to one of the owners when I was there. He is a former Marine and owns it with his sister. I went again some weekend to watch a football game and it was fun. Anyway, check it out. Way good food and service. It will be around for a long time I think.
When we had the bad experience at SoCo's we left and went to Macks.
That has become a fairly regular hangout for our Friday after work get togethers. They are super nice and accomodating people.
What kind of food do they serve?
Sonoma, where Prive used to be and owned by the folks from the Brasserie, will be opening to the public this weekend. I have not seen the menu yet, but will definitely be checking it out. I like the Brasserie.

Didn't know it was gone. Shows how much time I spend on Brookside these days.
What's ever become of "Davo"?
I read that Copelands is getting ready to open on 71st east of Garnett. I think I might go have a Po'boy and some etouffee.
I also noticed a sign up at the old Grapevine announcing Twist. Is it going to be a bar/restaurant or just a bar?
Another soon to open sign is for Pure Cafe on Harvard in the same strip center where that british place used to be between 31st and 41st.
Does anyone have any info on either of these places?

I have been twice now to 3316, the restaurant that took over the Brookside Thai place. It has a nice urban feel inside. The menu is pretty balanced and not overpriced, most everything is under $20. The Tenderloin Diablo is very nice, the tamales are well presented with a good fresh salsa. Service can get a bit slow if they are real busy. I want to go try their sunday brunch. I know nothing about the chef, if he is local or where he worked before 3316. Check it out.

Copelands is actually a restaurant chain, which had started in the New Orleans area. Whenever my parents would come down to visit, or if my father or my older brother would find themselves in the area due to their work (my father was an airline pilot, as is my older brother), I'd take them there. When I returned here, my dad told me that there was a Copelands in the area, and so me and my parents meet there regularly these days.

I tooooooootally agree about Keo... I'm obsessed! The service is usually pretty slow, but I don't care because the food is so good. And I usually call it in and get it to go anyway [^]
It's not just the food that helps me determine whether a restaurant is good or not. I also look at the management of a place. If the
managers have a certain presence, say, they're aggressive and combative, it'll show up in the servers, who will often be stressed out because, and it'll go to follow that the kitchen staff are running scared too. It'll show up in their work every time.

Thought it was average. Chef is Guy Romo. Reputation as super cocky know it all. His restaurant proves his bark is much worse than his bite. I'll spend my $$$ elsewhere on Brookside. 3316 will probably go the way of Aioli. Tyrant owner's tend to run their mediocre restaurants into the ground pretty quickly.

Everyone has their own take and timing can be everything. My dining companion and I met there about 6pm, we had the place to ourselves until we left shortly after 7pm.
I liked the vibe, it's a nice atmosphere. I felt the food was excellent. I had the Tenderloin Diablo, my companion the scallops. We also split some of the goat cheese fritters and a pear salad, and some bread pudding for good measure at the end.
I felt I got the value of what I paid. It was a nice evening.
I've met Guy twice. Once was a couple of months ago when I was walking in front of his place late in the afternoon, he came out and offered us a menu. The other was when he came out to make sure all was well with us. He seems attentive anyhow.

LOL!!!
Katherine Kelly gives EVERY restaurant an amazing review!
If they give her a plate of food, don't slap her face, and a rat doesn't run up her leg it's 5 stars across the board!
And Guy used to work at Urban Tulsa!!!
Hmmmm...
No, Katherine Kelly doesn't give every restaurant a good review. Only the good ones are published.
When/what did Guy to for UTW?

I disagree with you.
If you read her reviews every week you see she never uses a critical eye on anything other than the food, and even then she's never really critical. She pretty much loves everything that touches her tongue.
I'm not looking for negative reviews every week...just balanced critique.
And the thought of only printing "positive" reviews is just dumb. Why attach stars to her article?
And how does one determine the worth of the stars when almost every restaurant, dish, decor, and service is 4 or 5 stars? Shouldn't 5 stars be reserved for IMPECCABLE service and cuisine?
"Would you like to Super Size that?" does not equate to 5 star service.
"My food was yummy" just doesn't cut it.
Her reviews are a joke. Just like the whole rag it's found in.
Guy is listed as Account Exec.
http://archives.urbantulsa.com/DisplayPage.asp?id=13
That means you and I are pretty much in agreement. No bad reviews get published. Think about it- if you published a paper which depends on the restaurant and bar business for revenue streams and distribution, you wouldn't want to piss said restaurants off.
As I was driving down Peoria earlier today I noticed that the sign for the tapas placed had been replaced. The new sign said The Crusty Croissant so I wheeled the car through the construction to the parking lot. I think we might have a new little gem on our hands here. They open daily for breakfast at 6am with fresh pastries and a nice little menu. They do lunch and dinner until 9pm. The interior has been lightened up and made brighter and more welcoming. I forgot to ask about wifi. They gave me a croissant which I have just finished scarfing down and it was excellent in its buttery goodness.
Just think a new place for breakfast in Brookside and it isn't a chain place either. Lucky us.

I haven't made it there yet, but I know two people who have, and both said "It's a copy of LaMadeleine." Which is fine with me. The service is apparently spotty right now, but I'm excited about having another breakfast option in midtown.

6am is nice.
I noticed today that McAlister's is going to open a new store in mid-town, in Centennial Plaza in front of Sears facing 21st next to Freckles. This is a good thing, I like their sandwiches and I love their iced tea. Now I will not have to go all the way to the South of Tulsa just to get a muffalata sandwich. Midtown living is a good choice.

you can have the 91st/mem store...that place is a joke....as is their tea.
I went to the new location of Oklahoma Style Bar B Que a couple of days ago. Their store on North Harvard between Pine and Apache has always been one of my favorites, but I almost never went to that part of town.
Now, they have opened a location on 21st street east of Memorial (in the shopping center where Billiard Palace used to be).
I got some ribs and chopped beef for the kids and ordered three kinds of sauce. The kids liked the sweet, the wife liked the mild and I went for mixed.
Both meats went for under $12 a pound. I plan to phone in next time at 610-RIBS.

I have had a pizza and also the skirt steak with blue cheese and thought both items were very tasty. To me the portion sizes were very good, it made a meal and I didn't feel like I was wasting anything and I had enough to eat without feeling bloated. If I want that sort of meal I just go up the street to the Brook or down to the Cheesecake factory.
