Title: City Traffic designers have it wrong!
Post by: Ward on July 31, 2007, 05:42:42 PM
I previously stated in the forum that the marking of the traffic lanes by City planners  going south from 91st street towards 101st was incorrectly painted at the Creek Turnpike- I stand by that and the signs that are marked show you to get into the wrong lane. THIS MUST BE CORRECTED. I will take this to the highest level. It must be corrected or road rage will climb at this area. Please avoid from 4:30  til 6:30pm... I'm pissed!

Have you called the traffic engineers to let them know?  Be pissed all you want, buy why not make a phone call and tell them it hasn't been marked correctly.  Mark Brown is the City of Tulsa Traffic Engineer.

I have driven through that area twice each day for the last month. Never had a problem. But Conan mentioned it too. What particularly is wrong with it?

I can't figure out what's wrong either.  It was incorrect before they resurfaced Yale south of the turnpike.  Once they resurfaced and slightly widened the road, the road stripes were corrected.  My impression is, once the road was redone and the stripes changed, some of the signs prior to the intersection were not changed to reflect the changes.  But, I'm not sure.

I agree with Ward, sort of. Going south on that road, which I travel quite often, there is just something different than before the road was worked on. Traffic seems far more congested, particularly during the times you noted-after work rush hour. I do not think it is that more are necessarily taking that route because of the upgrade, because the degree of suck as to traffic on the same stretch on Memorial remains.

Could it be just an adjustment to the new markings? Since I just started driving it a month ago I wouldn't have noticed.

WB It could be. Or, this route is just another example of problems relating to a very short and unanticipated (or ignored) right merge lane, which has been the topic of discussion on this forum before.

What I suggest to fix this problem is that we build a South Tulsa bridge where Yale ends, perhaps a toll bridge partially subsidized with tax dollars, I don't know...(jk)
