Hi everyone. I lived in Tulsa from 1981 - 1989 as a teenager. I was wondering if the following places still exist:
1. The Camelot Hotel. It was a castle-like hotel that was somewhere around Peoria, I think. We began visiting Tulsa in the 70's and I always wanted to stay there.
2. My family loved eating at the Black-eyed Pea at 81st and Yale. Is it still open?
3. Does Woodland Hills mall still thrive?
4. We had friends who lived at The Falls apartments at mmm... let's see... 61st and Memorial???? Are they still there and livable?
5. Is there still a QuikTrip on every corner? Remember the Squart and the Squantum? You could buy one and fill it up from their fountain drink machine.
6. Does the flame still burn on top of the Prayer Tower at ORU?
7. Although I couldn't afford it and never got to shop there... is Miss Jackson's still the store of choice for the ladies?
8. Does RHEMA still own that skating rink in BA?
9. Is Jenks still the "power" school?
10. Does the $1 movie theatre still exist?
I'll stop there. Oh, one more.. is there still a Sipes on Lewis?
Woodland Hills seems like its holiday season almost year around at times. Rhema owns that rink and turned it into the Ninowski Center. I used to cruise the Fontana back then but those days are gone.
the fontana... is that were the $1 movie was located? It sounds familiar, but I can't place it.
Oh, what about Hamburger Haven around 71st and Lewis... my, my, my the best burgers and nachos I ever had!!!
51st and Memorial. Back when the police brought their Rottys and the arcade was next door to the theater. Dale Apollo Cook's gym was in the same center.
How bout sky high interest rates....And a housing market in the toilet.....

It's been closed for ages and the Maharishi has let it go to pot. The city was going to lend money to the current owner to demolish it, but QuikTrip is going to buy the land and tear it down themselves.
Here are some photos by Alison Zarrow of the hotel in its current state (//%22http://abandonedtulsa.blogspot.com/search/label/Camelot%20Hotel%22).

There aren't any Black-Eyed Peas in Tulsa any more, but one of the founders of the chain started a new chain with a similar menu called Dixie Cafe in Arkansas and Delta Cafe everywhere else. We have three in Tulsa.
The BEP at 81st and Yale is now a Rib Crib.

On my rare visits there, it seems to be doing OK.

They have been refurbished in recent years and have been renamed a couple of times. They were the Reserve at Shadow Mountain and are now called The Falls at Shadow Mountain (//%22http://www.thefallsintulsa.com/%22)

There are more QTs and they are bigger than when you were here. More gas pumps, bigger fountain machines plus a bunch of coffee varieties. Tons of ready-to-eat food, most of it pretty good for what it is.

6. Does the flame still burn on top of the Prayer Tower at ORU?
It's called the eternal flame, isn't it?

It's still there, "in fashionable Utica Square."

8. Does RHEMA still own that skating rink in BA?
It's now a sports center for Rhema Bible College.
quote:
9. Is Jenks still the "power" school?
Jenks vs. Union is the big football rivalry -- they play that game in Skelly Stadium every year.
quote:
10. Does the $1 movie theatre still exist?
Movies 8 (behind Red Lobster at 68th and Memorial) is still $1. The cheap theaters at Fontana and Mall 31 (31st & Sheridan) are closed.

There isn't a Sipes anywhere. All but one Sipes store were sold to Bud's in 1991. The one at 61st and Yale closed in 2001 and was demolished with the rest of the Holliday Hills Shopping Center the next year. The one at 27th and Harvard is a dollar store of some sort. The one at 71st and Lewis is an Office Depot.
Buds was then purchased by Harvest Foods and subsequently run into the ground........

Drysdales on Memorial also used to be a Sipes. I think it was called Sipes Food Barn. It had a big clock inside and was pretty nice from what I remember. My brother used to work there. It changed hands a few times and is now Drysdales.

Sorry couldn't resist.
How about Cooper MFG over at 3100 Charles Page Blvd? What about RiverSide Industires They were booming back then. Is RiverSide Industries still around anyone know?[;)]

I don't believe either is still around. If you are referring to Cooper Tire, I believe that is Mileage Masters now.
The refinery has bought up most of the east side of SW Blvd. they didn't already own and is starting to tear down the buildings.
That area has changed quite a bit. Further north, Burgess Hardware has been gone about five years, and the old Mac's Plating closed a couple of years ago.
I knew of Cooper on Chas Page Blvd. They made well workover rigs and took over an old Safeway/Homeland store on Charles Page Blvd, which since became a church. Like many of us who had a "Fantastic Summmer" they had a "Great Fall...." in the mid-late 80s, and a church took over their offices.
Whoops, my bad. I read SW Blvd. not Chas Page.
Are the Falls apartments still there in Tulsa? Now that was a really happening kinda place for a while-I'd a colleague that lived there-but around 1990 (around when I left Tulsa), almost overnight, there was gang grafitti. Have they cleaned it up?

Yes, there ya go. I used to work there in 1979 at Cooper, at 3100 Charles Page- They made oil rigs. They were real busy- We were doing 10 hour days then they cut that to 9 hours then down to 8 hours, then they got into a slump, I left in May, 1980 for the Dallas/Fort Worth MetroPlex in Texas... Texas was booming in the 1980's. A few of the co-workers went to RiverSide Industries and tryed to get me to go there too. They made electrical tower galv. steel, "transmission towers" I guess you'd call them, and things like that. It was a huge place, but alot of it was outside work. They were also pulling 10 hour days. I don't even know where it was located except that it was in the west side.
Does Tulsa still have Grandy's? There was one at 61st and Lewis in the 80's.
There was also a Doubletree Hotel somewhere around 61st and Yale. We used to sneak in a go swimming and hot tubbing.
We lived in the 74136 zip code at Woodbridge Village around 91st and Lewis. There was a bowling alley, a $1 movie theatre, and I think a doughnut shop close by. We then lived on 85th street behind the Safeway and Furr's Cafeteria. This was between Harvard and Yale and 81st and 91st. Are these still good areas?

The Camelot is being demolished for a QuikTrip:

The Sipes at 15th & Lewis was demolished after Albertsons had the city condemn the neighborhood to the northeast for one of their stores -- which they are now vacating and selling to Reasors. The Sipes location is now an Office Depot:

The theater on the northeast corner was demolished for a Walgreens.
ALL of the Grandy's restaurants are now gone, several of them have been converted to walk in dental offices!

The theater on the northeast corner was demolished for a Walgreens.
The store on the southwest corner of 15th and Lewis was built as a Safeway, then a Homeland, and finally an ALPS. If I recall correctly, the store had the typical '60s Safeway quonset hut roof.
The theater, Loew's Delman (later a nightclub called the Appollo [sic] Delman), was on the northwest corner.
Believe it or not, Albertson's acquired all that land privately. Eminent domain was not involved. The area isn't within any of the city's approved urban renewal acquisition areas. And by the way, the Albertson's to Reasor's conversion begins today at 4 p.m. The store should reopen Thursday. I hope they keep the historic downtown photos in the lobby.
I remember in 1979 there use-to be a "Safeway" store on the corner of Denver & 11th or some where near there. They long since closed but the building is still there. I lived in the "Cheyenne Arms" apartments. My rent was $115.00 a month and all bills paid. We had no A/C. The address was 1210 S. Cheyenne I was in Apartment 201. They are still standing.
- I thought the Safeway at 15&Lewis is now an OfficeMax.
- Jenks is still the "power school" for football. Union won the deal once or twice. BA competed for a couple of years, but never won. Schools from the OKC metro never seem to compete. (I think the new staff at BA will make them more competitive on a regular basis.)
- BA won national championships for their band and cheer-leading programs. Huge deals.
- Woodland still thrives, but 41st & Yale has made a comeback. Eastland tried, but didn't make it as a mall. It is currently being converted to an office complex -- probably catering to Hispanic business.
- The Falls aren't typically THE place anymore. There are much nicer apartment complexes in town.
- Miss Jackson's is still there, but honestly I don't most people in town even know about it. If it's not a "mall store" then most Tulsa transplants won't know about it. "How can something named Miss Jacksons be nearly as cool as The Gap?!?"

Thanks for the info. So 41st and Yale is a comeback? When I lived in Tulsa, the Promenade had just been built across from Eastland. Is it still there? What about The Farm at ? and Sheridan?
Promenade is/was across from Southroads, not Eastland (Promenade used to be called Southland, which is perhaps causing the confusion). They tore down Southroads mall, and now have a pretty ordinary strip mall, still called southroads, with a Reasors, Barnes & Noble, and a few other stores. The Farm at 51st & Sheridan is still there, though not a lot going on there--German restaurant, material store, Pier I--a few other stores.
I have fond memories of Southland. Back to school shopping at Frougs, Clarks Good Clothes, Pennys, Walgreens with the coffee shop, etc. Open air in the middle with the sidewalk sales in late summer. What a great mall. Southroads had Woolco and Spencers with Looboyles on the lower level. Of course, all thats gone now.
Ok, I'm collected and back to reality now.

Is Tulsa still full of mega-churches like it was in the 80's? I remember Grace Fellowship, RHEMA Bible Church, Victory Christian Center, Higher Dimensions, Boston Avenue Methodist, and the list goes on.
There are all still here, less Higher Dimensions. It went away with Carlton Pearsons new "message". Add Church on the Move to your list. Asbury UMC built a hugh building near 71st and Mingo and I understand that they are adding on to that. The chapel in the parking lot is the size of the old church building at 60th & Sheridan. I think the church is visible from the space station.
What was Pearson's "new message"? I wondered what happened to him. It seems like I remember that singer Carmen when to his church. What is Church on the Move? Is it nondenominational? Who is the pastor?
Pearsons new message is that no one goes to hell. If thats the case, then why is there hell? (but thats a whole different thread.) He has been labeled a heretic. I'm not sure if Carmen went there. I believe he had a home in Glenpool.
Willie George pastors Church on the Move. Never been there. Not sure of the denomination, charismatic I think.

That's a good question. I guess you have to go to Heaven to find out.

Wow... that "new message" needs to be censored because it is a total lie. I wonder how he got so "off" with his message? Anyway, yeah, now that I think back, Carmen did attend his church because a friend of mine went there every Sunday back in the late 80's trying to get his attention to date her. From what I remember, that church had more single women that you could count.
Willie George... I remember him from the 80's. He had a hugh children's ministry with a western theme and puppets.
Link to Pearson explaining himself
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/127/story_12772.html
The reality is: Romans 10:9,10, because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation.
Yes, George's western town is called Dry Gulch USA. They have the Christmas Train every year. I visited COTM a few times. A little large for my taste and I never got to meet that many people. (that sounds strange). Anyway, some famous singer from 4Him is the worship leader. He's very good.

My memories from the 80s mainly revolve around Buttons Records & Tapes. I worked there from 87 to 91. I had a sweet mini-truck mullet. :-) I blame that country singer billy ray cyrus for ruining it for all of us.
Buttons was owned by Sound Warehouse. However, the Sounded Warehouses in Tulsa were not owned by the same company - they were locally owned.
Linda Soundtrack anyone?
How about Peaches at 51st and Sheridan or Greers at 11th and Rockford. Starship recently moved on to 15th street, I think, since TU gobbled up all the land near them on 11th street.
Peaches is where Buttons was (see post above). This became Blockbuster Music in the early 1990s.
Starship is now on Lewis in an ugly steel building just North of the BA.

Linda Soundtrak is alive and well in Birmingham, AL. She noted that the stage names of her sons were Sluggo I and Sluggo II (real names David and Richard, like the Nelsons, ages 27 and 23). She recently did an animated ad with singing jingle for an attorney.
Hi! Ilived in Tulsa 1977-2006
Camelot has either been torn down this year or they are just about to. It sat there like an eyesore for years. I enjoyed Black Eye Pea and it's not in existance. Yes, Woodland still thrives. [:)]The Falls are okay apartments. Flame is still on top of the Prayer Tower, No Sipes on Lewis, still dollar theatres, don't know about Rhema owning an ice skating rink, more and more Quick Trips - which I miss, Miss Jackson's is still there and I'veonly walked in there one time

What was cool about Southroads, while not as large as Woodland Hills, was that you could pretty much get whatever you were looking for and leave. It was also cool to walk around and hang out there-though, like the Kensington, it wasn't that uncommon to sometimes find yourself as among the very few people shopping there (more people working there than shopping there).
But ya know, I still remmeber it well, the Looboyle's, the video arcade, that Backyard Burgers deep inside the lower level; I remember the Picadilly Cafeteria and the Boot Hill cowboy boot store. I remember the tobacco shop, and Vandevers and Woolco. I even remember walking next door, past the movie theatre, over to a place called Pee Wee's Hamburgers and Chili.
On those occasions that I return to the Tulsa area, I'd noticed that they not only tore down Southroads, but also the areas next to it, and even the Annex Mall! Sometimes, progress is not always a good thing!
I remember that Annex Mall... I had forgotten about it. It was two-story, right? Is there still a Target at 71st and Memorial? I shopped there a lot in the 80's and at a clothing store called Tempo right next door. We once ate in a restaurant called Peppi's Villa Capril. Seems like it was on a high hill somewhere around 61st and Sheridan.
Shadow Mountain Inn was on top of the hill at 61st & Sheridan. It has the best view in Tulsa.
The Annex had a 3 screen movie theater and Townsen (sp) Top Shop that sold t-shirts and a Swinsons Ice Cream parlor. There was also a Coney Islander at the end of it. It's still there in the South east corner of the new mall area. I seem to remember a Diamond Jacks food place over there somewhere. They're on 51st now.

Diamond Jacks was in the building that was next to Southroads Cinema. At one time that building had facing south, Diamond Jacks, Girl Scoult Council office, an eye physcian and glasses store and Team Electronics, Coney Ilander was on the norht side facing the theater. Another store in the Annex was Oshmans Sporting Goods and Altair Computers. Before it was the Annex Mall, that was the location of Courtesy Volkswagen until they moved to the Memorial Drive location across from what was Conine Schwab Porche Audi.
There was also a small restaurant in the parking lot near the southwest mall entrance called the Pancake Place that later became Barristers if I remember correctly. I always thought it was kind of a neat little place to eat.

Who was that other doofus that sold audio stuff that called himself Doc Rock or something like that. He work sunglasses and a lab coat and was always swinging his arms around. It was always late at night during the movies and such.
Anyone remember??

Actually, it was a 7 screen theatre, and next to it was the Funway Freeway arcade (which became I think Aladdin's Castle when I'd stopped off there in the 1990s while on a visit). The Townsend Top Shop was once in the Annex Mall, as was a Swenson's Ice Cream Parlor.

I remember Doc Rock! Oh, my! I had forgotten about that goofball. His commercials were so corny that they were funny.
I wonder if Doc Rock is Sluggos daddy??
I don't remember 7 screens at the Annex. I remember 3, but they may have added some screens later on. I think the Southroads Mall Cinema is where I saw Star Wars.
I remember "Earthquake, in Sensurround" at the Bowman Twin at 31st and Sheridan, which is now Lazer Quest.
Doc Rock is now the proprietor of Papa Dogs (hot dogs) in Owasso on 86th St N and I-169. They're tasty!
Here's a photo of the Pancake Place (//%22http://tulsatvmemories.com/gb052103.html#pancake%22).
I could be wrong on the name of the pancake restaurant that was near Woolco in the parking lot, but I do remember the The Pancake Place at 11th & Utica.
Very interesting about Doc Rock. I'll have to check that out sometime.
Thanks for the info.
The Pancake Place was at 11th and Utica. They had a major fire sometime in the late 80s or early 90s and never reopened. The building was torn down and the land has been for sale for years. The restaurant at Southroads mall was called The Pancake Cottage.

Let's see, at the Annex, I saw fare such as "Airplane 2" "Moscow on the Hudson" "Flashdance (I think that's where I saw it)" "White Nights" and "Ghostbusters 2." I saw "Batman" at the Southroads.
Speaking of Southroads, anybody remember the Renberg's store, or Clarke's Good Clothes, Woolf Brothers, or Vandever's? How about the Boot Hill?

We use to ride our motorcycle up the south side of the hill where Shadow Mountain is, west face was too steep to handle, but later got some trails cut in it by the bigger bikes. That was back around 1964-67. Good view from the top of the hill. Shot of many fire crackers from that location then. Not sure when they built the apartments, but they messed up a great place to ride and hang out as kids. :)
Also the field on the South side of 61st between Sheridan and Memorial was great for riding. Had lots of trails, one summer it burned and the grass that came back in the spring was bright green.
Katy Wampus riding area was at 61st and Memorial on the North East corner. Had some good jumps and trails back in the woods.
I saw What's New Pussy Cat at the Bowman Twin theatre. Also the Sheridan Drive In and Brown's Avaiation Airport were located near 51st and Sheridan then along with Bowls Warehouse Furniture which is now the Farm Shopping Center.
Griff had Kart Ville at 15th and Sheridan and later moved it to I believe was around 31st and Memorial on the south side of 31st. Parts of the ole track at 15th and Sheridan is still visible, it is the empty lot south of the pizza place there.
There was also Sheridan Lanes and another bowling alley on Yale, Yale Lanes I think, where Primaux Kia is now.
We also had several Putt Putt Golf Courses, in-ground trampoline and kart places. Plus lots of great hamburger joints inlcuding the Chuck Wagon on East 11th Street that had the absolute best and largest burgers ever.
Interesting how long so many lots have stood empty in Tulsa. Kart Ville could be going on 40 plus years.
Here are some cool photos of Tulsa haunts from back in the good old days of Tulsa. Some of these were gone by the 1980's thought some of you youngsters would like to see some of what you missed, that we enjoyed as kids.

TUlSA DOWNTOWN AT NIGHT - PLACE ROCKED WITH LIGHTS !
CROWN DRUGS WERE IN TULSA - ONE LOCATION WAS AT 11TH AND YALE - SW CORNER, WHERE TALLY'S RESTAURANT IS NOW.
The photos immediately above are from my Tulsa Motels-Restaurants (//%22http://www.flickr.com/photos/tulsatv/sets/72157600662232140/%22) Flickr photo set. The Coney Island shots were taken by Mike Bruchas; most of the rest collected on eBay over the years.

Just below this item about the Casa-Del Club (//%22http://tulsatvmemories.com/gb070304.html#casa%22) (Golden Drumstick's predecessor in the 11th and Yale Spanish-style building), Lee Woodward recalled the 1958 U.S. Open Golf Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.
1969-1972 or therabouts...
Riding dirt bikes at 61st and Sheridan, I recall the hill on the SW corner was nicknamed "Suicide." Not Suicide Hill, just Suicide.
We also rode where the post office is at 51st and Sheridan and where the Farm Shopping Center was. The old barn that was standing was quite a hangout for various activities.

Speaking of Southroads, anybody remember the Renberg's store, or Clarke's Good Clothes, Woolf Brothers, or Vandever's? How about the Boot Hill?
I loved Clarks and Vandevers. Clarks was at Southland. Vandevers was at the very end of Southroads on the east side.
I used to live just down the street from The Golden Drumstick. It later became The Middle Path Cafe, a kind of hippie joint that put bean sprouts on everything.
I used to ride my bike all up and down Route 66. There was Cooks Court, where Paintmaster is now, 66 Tavern, Some type of Swiss Villa motel where Okla Fixture is now, the Will Rogers Motor Court that had little garages with the rooms, very shady and comfy with lots of trees, McColumns (sp) Restaurant newt door. We used to ride our bikes down the hill by what we called East Temple, which is a Masonic Temple. We had all kinds of bike trails and jumps back there.
The train tracks near 11th & Hudson brought in some Illinois Central railcars on time and they were hauled off and refurbished and made into a train restaurant on 11th near Garnett. The wooden water tower is still there. It's now a plumbing contractor I think. The cars long gone.
I remember eating there once or twice.
The train restaurant was originally called "Iron Horse" and later the "11th Street Train". It is long gone but yes the water tower survives!

Wait a tick! Is what you're referring to that place called "Pizza Train"?
I beleive it was called Pizza Train for a short time.
I remember it was call Iron Horse when it opened and it was a pretty fancy place to eat. I also remember eating pizza there later on around "77 or so.
I'm thinking it was called "This Train" for a while.

Yes! As I recall, Gailard Sartain I think did the commercials for it!

They started with three, then added four more, replacing vacant retail space at the other end of the mall.
It's stunning to think that I'm old enough for stuff that I remember being built is already long gone.

And I remember the arcade there, as well as the Swensons Ice Cream place there that my dad would take me to as a kid. Even remember the lady who would wait our table every single week we went in there (or more if we were in the area), I even remember her by name, first and last! Wonder if she is still in Tulsa, now that I think about this, would be nice to visit...

Southland, a good center. Like Woodland or southroads, anything you wanted to find was there. Still remember in my teenage days, whilst exploring there (my parents turned me loose to look around), a girl my age and I shared a momentary glance, and just like that, she was gone. Wow....I get butterflies when i think about that.
Megachurches, I have little use for. Just because it's the biggest church, it doesn't always make it the best.
I agree with you about the mega churches. I just wondered if they were still going strong or had fizzled out. I remember another church... seems like maybe at 51st and Lewis or Peoria. I don't remember the name, but it was started by a missionary named TL Osborn. The church had a museum of art from all over the world. Am I remembering correctly?

Osborne's church, I think used to be a thing called the World Museum, and I remember going to it a few times, once on a family outing and another on a field trip. Interesting things there. In 1988, some time after it had become a church, I'd visited there on the behest of a friend to see this evangelist named Roy Blizzard teach a seminar.

It's still a church, sort of. Victory Christian Center runs a Bible school there. I believe there are a few churches who use it on Sundays. I know mine did a few years ago when it was destroyed by a tornado.

Looking at the I-44 expansion plans, I'm pretty sure that church will soon be history.
Going back to mrskns' question about megachurches, I would say they are going strong. In fact, the trend seems moving towards building churches that can be seen from space.
Rhema some years back built what seemed like a giant building at the time. (in Broken Arrow)
Asbury Methodist recently decided to build one of the hugest churches I have ever seen. Square in the middle of big-box big-parking-lot land.
(The forum downsized the pics just slightly, click on them and they are a little more crisp)
Wow! Thanks for the photos and the wonderful information. Gee... those facilites are huge! I must say, I'm glad Tulsa is so christian-oriented.
Is that Union High School's playing field across from the Asbury church? You are right, it looks tiny beside the church. If it is Union, I know how big that school is, so it's a great comparison.
Yep. Thats Union.

Ah Southroads. I remember Woolco, with rows after rows of cool stuff to buy; if they didn't have it, you didn't need it that bad. And Looboyles, with the sporting goods and the automotive stuff. Hey, do you remember a Hasting's records store on the upper level, or a Jessica's Cookies shop, also upper level? Do you remember all the unique places to eat there?
When I was 13, I think, there was a bb gun shoot at Woolco and I won a rod & reel. That was pretty neat.
Hastings Records was just outside Woolco in the mall. Spencers Gifts was a little further down.
I really liked the little hallways that had stores in them that you would have to look for to find.

We blazed those trails in 1964 on our Honda 90s. Me, Gary Ritterbusch, Al Osborne, Hardesty, Richey Ward, Richard Goob Dobson, Jack Williams, Duke Thompson, Robert and Alan Jandebeur.
By '69 we upgraded to Suzuki 125s, a Benelli (bought at J.C Penney), a Montessa, and several Honda 70s. Oh yeah and a Mini Enduro some kid got for xmas in 1970.
Neighbor of Howie Sewell's got a Mini Trail for Christmas around that time. They lived in Park Plaza by Memorial High School. His parents owned a oilfield supply company in Sand Springs. Kevin Caldwell I believe. Think their business was Caldwell Supply. Larry Clark, who's dad was Elmer Clark of Parrish & Clark had a 125, along with Howie's younger brother and a few other neighborhood motorcyle riders.

Mini Trail Honda 70
I remember a Benelli that a kid had in Sungate. It was black as I recall. There were more motorcycle riders that lived in that neighborhood too.

When we first moved out that way there were only houses on one street which was the Parade of Homes street. As the new developments went in, we were fortunate to have lots of road graders, bulldozers making trails and jumps for us to ride on.
I had a Honda 305 Scrambler in 1966.

This is a CL77 Honda 305 Scrambler from that era

These 1969 Bridgestone 350's were bad fast. Twin rotary valve two cycle engines. I remember having to replace, under a factory recall, the crankseals in 15 of these that Curley sold at his shop Custom Cycle Sales at 42nd and Peoria in 1969.
I have a CL-90 sitting in the shed. I need to get it running if it hasn't locked up.
We had and old Honda 50, a Sachs 100 (?) and a Garelli. We started out with an Allstate (Sears) Moped. 50cc's I think. What a hoot! My brother later picked up a Suzuki TS120. It had a lever on the clutch sid etrhat you could shift from trail gears to street gears. That thing could climb trees.

Willie George went by the name Gospel Bill. My parents sent me to his little youth camp in the Forum 21 mall at 21st and Garnett. All I remember about it was a lot of singing and some back room where a few kids would faint. Bizarre.

I think they also did a TV show on the UHF channels called "Fire by Night." Not bad for low budget fare. I remember watching it a few times while SNL was dealing with that writers' strike.

"Fire By Night"!! I forgot about that show. I believe Blaine Bartel was one of the actors on the show..he lived in my neighborhood. He once had a film crew at his house late into the evening hours. They were making a special about some kid who got into a satanic cult and murdered his parents. A bunch of us kids were playing across the street watching it all, so we got to be extras by standing in the street like neighbors (which I guess we really were) as they wheeled the "dead bodies" out. Wow, that really brought back some memories.
I saw that show a few times. I think I saw it when I was in Arizona. Can't remember too well, that was a few years ago. I thought it was a neat show. My son has a movie with Willie in it as well as Ken Copeland. It's, of course, a western.

Copeland Signs contract for new Jet!
As we reported here last year, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland have been seeking donations from their partners to buy themselves not one but two new Cessna Citation X jets. Well, glory to God the partners have come through once again!
Copeland announced last week that he has signed a contract for the first of these jets. Check out the announcement from Copeland's Elite CXTeam website
The cost of this state of the art private jet is approximately $20 million. This will only be the latest addition to Copeland's private air force. Along with the new Citation X, the Copeland's also have a Cessna Citation 550 Bravo (valued at $3.4 million), PLUS a Grumman Gulfstream II (worth $4.5 million) AND a Cessna Golden Eagle AND a Beech E-55 AND assorted lesser aircraft AND his own airport.
Yes sir there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Kenneth Copeland needed another private jet. And I'm also quite sure the apostle Paul is looking in from heaven and just kicking himself. You see Paul could have avoided all his travel problems (2Cor 11:24-27) if he had just taken up an offering to buy himself his own ship.
Oh what fools those early apostles were. When people brought them money they turned around and gave it back out to those in need (Acts 4:34-35). What a bunch of dopes! How much more efficiently could they have spread the gospel if they had just taken that money and bought themselves new chariots, horses, and ships, not thttp://apostasywatch.com/wolves/page4.htmlo mention gated mansions and vacation homes!.
http://www.elitecxteam.org/
I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. Jesus said we would do greater works than He did (John 14:12). Commander Kenneth is living proof of this scripture. While Jesus only multiplied loaves and fishes, Copeland has an anointing to multiply airplanes! If that's not a miracle I don't know what is!

How Copeland has avoided a Prime Time Live expose by now, simply amazes me....
Anybody else remember the KMOD kite flights? Man, I miss those! Don't forget Sound Warehouse, either. Cassette tapes. He, he.
