I heard Cason Carter will not run for re-election to the City Council. It has long been rumored that his stint on the Council was a stepping stone towards a run for state office. Anybody out there think that there is any truth to these rumors?
I wouldn't have the foggiest idea. Good for him if he wants to become a career politician. I hear it's made John Sullivan a wealthy man.

Never truer words spoken.
Pretty amazing how you can go from not having the proverbial "pot to piss in" to the assets and life-style of a millionaire with a fashionable town-house in DC, a McMansion in the home district on a +/- $170K per year income in seven years or less.
Not picking just on Sullivan- it's happening/happened all over Congress.
The money comes from a group of people I think are known as lobbyists. Apparently they run around D.C. handed over big wads of cash to doofuses for favors. Probably sexual favors, I am not sure.
C'mon Nellie, that would be completely un-ethical.
Well I thought it sounded completely unbelievable, but I hear it's actually true. I think someone needs to check into this.
I will publicly state right now that ANY politician that accepts money for sexual favors should be soundly punished.
What? Something like a good spanking?
Money for sexual favors?
Does this job pay by the pound?

I seem to remember at one time early in his career, he listed his total net worth as being less than MINE (I was maybe 25 at the time), and that was just 4 or 5 years ago. My understanding is that he can probably use campaign funds to pay for the townhouse, though. Anyone know if that's true or not?
The worst part about it is seeing what Oklahoma's gotten in return for their investment. I found this on another board: "I came across some facinating information on the Congress.org website today. It seems they have researched and ranked the effective political power of each member of Congress. Is it any surprise that Oklahoma does not fare very well?
The only star for Oklahoma in the rankings is Dan Boren with a rank of 50th most powerful member of the house of Representatives. Tom Cole at #160 is the only other member of the Oklahoma Delegation to rank in the upper half with next best Frank Lucas coming in at #260.
You have to look way down in the bottom of the barrel to find John Sullivan and Mary Fallin at #396 and #435 respectively. Mary Fallin gets absolutely no respect with her ranking of third from the last followed by fellow wimp freshman republican Gus Bilirakis of Florida and the infamous William Jefferson who actually achieved a negative power rating after being accused of serious crimes which he appears guilty of.
Fallin and Sullivan actually ranked lower than Luis G. Fortuño, the delegate from Puerto Rico who does not even have a vote
Over on the senate side, Inhofe and Coburn rank 71st. and 88th. respectively which does not bode well for Oklahoma's issues in that chamber.
Overall as a state, Oklahoma ranks 51st with the voteless territories of Guam and American Samoa holding more sway in the halls of Congress. Actually Oklahoma was not the worst among the 50 states with Nebraska and Louisiana ranking lower but that is little consolation."
Not surprising considering the relative lack of tenure in the HOR with the Okla. delegation. If you looked back before the '06 mid-term, I'm willing to bet Boren was far down the list and Sullivan was higher due to the shift in majority.
Same circus, different clowns.
Boren had a shot at becoming a major political player and possibly make a run at the presidency, but skeletons in the closet made him get out of politics. He makes a good university president.
Uh, this is his son, the current Congressman from CD2, Dan Boren. Maybe Cason Carter will run against Sullivan? Now, that would be an interesting race.

I heard one time his favorite song was "Turn The
Page"
Yeah -- I was talking about his dad. Junior is and always will be worthless. He should just become a republican.
If the highest ranking Congressman from Oklahoma is worthless, what does that say about the rest of our low ranking Republican delegation?

I dunno, more worthless?
Bingo! We have a winner.

Was told by an OU insider that Boren is getting ready to leave and will announce Brad Henry as his replacement.
Boren is going to resign and run as a vice-presidential candidate on an independent ticket fronted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Back on topic, If I were Cason Carter, I wouldn't want to run again and have to face people after the little stunt he pulled last night, either. As a matter of fact I would be thinking twice about running for any public office.
When he was handing out flyers he came by the hacienda, I thought he was his teen kid or something!
Cason is a good case in point that you don't have to be a lawyer from a connected family to get . . . oh, nevermind . . .

I call him Mcfly or Willard because he reminds me of Crispin Glover.
Rumor Confirmed. Carter for SD35. In case you can't tell I am staking out my claim to be the undisputed Perez Hilton of this pollitcal season- the whigga you love to hate.

Kathy Taylor should change her political affiliation to independent and endorse this campaign. If she plays her cards right, she could be their Condi.

Having held the purse strings of the intelligence community for so long hasnt hurt him much; he still seems to have the FBI in his pocket... at least with regard to protecting the University's image. How many other schools can a Muslim-extremist converts failed bombing attempt only make the sports page?
Ken Levitt too.
I've somewhat happy with Carter's addition to the council, but I still can't get over the Doogie Howser image and figure he's gotta be someone's rubber stamp on the council.

I can't wait to see his campaign contribution reports, that should tell a lot based on who is funding the campaign. What will really revitalize and transform Tulsa and this state to move it forward is ditching the pay to play election system we currently have and changing to publicly funded clean elections.

A thought hit me last night. I wonder if we will see campaign contributions from Taylor/Lobeck, Vanguard, Numbered Car Co., or other close associates of our Mayor. Would pretty much remove any doubt as to why he voted for Staubach Tower.
You two are making speculation and innuendo about a guy who might run for some other office near the end of next year.
Hurry, the first people in line get to throw the best mud.
You say that as if there is something wrong with it. Lots of rain this year, I've got plenty of mud to sling. [;)]

If he's serious about running, he'll need to start right away. This is a race that will effectively be decided in July's Republican primary, and there are a lot of doors to knock in a State Senate district. State Sen. Mike Mazzei, who succeeded Charles Ford in District 25, started walking the district over a year before his primary.
I agree that you can never start campaigning for office too soon. These guys were making statements about potential campaign contribution conflicts before the campaign is any more than a rumor.
I think it is a little premature to make such negative implications about this councilor...
Starting negative rumors about who might contribute to a campaign for a guy who might run for some other office and implying that his actions today are influenced seem a little below the belt.

Pretty much but do you really expect better than that from either me or AA?
Good point.
I don't know this councilor well personally, but agree with most of the things I hear from him. I watch those sub-committee meetings and those council meetings (I have no life).
He was also the only councilor to fight for more money for mowing be put in this year's budget. He lost that fight, but was smart enough to anticipate what a problem the rights-of-way weeds were going to be. I also think he takes his time making a decision, especially compared to a couple of the other councilor.
I don't live in his district, wouldn't be able to vote for him in a primary, and would probably be more likely to support a democrat in any future election. That doesn't mean that I think he is doing a bad job. I think he is doing a very good job for his constituents and fot the city.
I didn't see the council meeting until it was replayed on TGOV the other night.
Personally, I was disappointed. A lot of people thought the City Hall move was a big smelly **** burger and I felt the council laid down and basically allowed Himelfarb and Mayor Taylor to cram it down their throat and make them enjoy it.
I honestly don't know what went on in the background to assuage these councilor's concerns, but it didn't transpire to a large degree in front of the public eye. I pretty much resent it when politicians resort to pathos to sway my opinion. Just give me the facts and all of them, not a sloppy executive summary coupled with lots of emotion and hyperbole.
I know, it's just tacky comments and speculation on my part, but if it weren't for local government I'd have to look elsewhere to mine material for my "snipey little troll" act. It's convenient.

What stunt? You refer to the new city building saga?
