I don't know how many of you like mexican food. But, Los Cabos, on the riverwalk, is really good. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it. Their quacomole is excellent!
is ok.
Kind of reminds me of going to Los Cabos or somewhere like that... its a restaurant that serves Mexican food. nice enough, but doesnt seem special to me. The outdoor area is particularly nice... still. I prefer El Toro/El Porton/Blazin Peppers.
I like Teds Escondido on 71st better.
I like Los Cabos. We've been going there every now and then since it opened. You can't beat the atmosphere.
I never get into the argument over "authentic" Mexican food. Far as I'm concerned "authentic" tastes like dirt.
I've eaten at Ted's once. It was good. I'd say the food was about the same as LC. After awhile they all start to taste the same.
Los Cabos (original location) and Ted's both burned me customer service wise. I won't go to either.
I plan on going to El Guapo on or after July 15th to experience rooftop mexican. I like the river and mexican food and hope Los Cabos gets some competition soon so I have somewhere to eat.

I've been keeping a close eye on El Guapo's progress... If it opens this month I'd be surprised.

people recommended los cabos and teds for "good" mexican....I would hate to see what you consider "bad" mexican.
try Mexico Lindo or Compadres in BA for good AUTHENTIC mexican.

I usually got to Bueno, I'm not THAT hard to please.
There is an outstanding Mexican place up on North Sheridan across from the Warehouse Market. In the building where Willie's #2 or #3 Hamburger Joint once was.
They server a 1/4 Rotisserie Chicken for $1.85 complete with onions, lettuce and three corn tortillas and a brown salsa. 1/2 Chicken served the same way is around $3.00.
Speedy's at 23rd and South Sheridan is still one of my favorites for Mexican style food. #19 Giant Chicken Buritto Golden coverd with melted cheese for around $3.45. The Peach Iced Tea is pretty good too. #53 Golden Chicken Enchiladas are not bad either.
I go to Las Americas at 3rd and Lewis for my authentic mexican. I think it's a bit better than Speedy's. South of the border at 51st & memorial isn't bad either, neither is Mexico Lindo in my book.

Have never tried any of those. Was not aware there was a restaurant at Las Americas, thought it was a pawn shop or a store. Have to try it.
Cancun at 7yh & Lewis across from Freddies's Hamburgers used to be pretty good, have not been there in a while.
Cancun...El Rio Verde....Tacos San Pedro....
Tried the El Rio Verde, but they mostly use that red caustic type sauce on everything. I can't digest the battery acid content of some of that type of sauce. Have to stick with the white cheese or milder blends.
That is why I like the Pizza by the slice at Marrios on 51st. I get the Cheese and Garlic one with zero red sauce. Red sauce to me is like Kryptonite to Superman

Oh yeah, I forgot about Mexico Lindo. Very good. I have never been to Compadres but they are always packed everytime I drive by.
Yeah, breadburner - my favorite is Tacos San Pedro - I prefer the one at 21st and Garnett. Super yummy and the green habanero sauce is the bomb.
Las Americas is excellent, too. Great friendly service and you can browse the little supermarket there. Food not as "authentic" as TSP - but very good.
I was surprised at the quality of food at Los Cabos (Riverwalk) especially the tortilla chips and salsa. Service was just OK - too busy, so not enough attention - refilling drinks, etc.
The best in my book is La Hacienda on S Peoria. Los Cabos is tex-mex, they make most of their money on the beer sales not the food. And the food is not worth the wait. Rio Verde is my go to place for breakfast on the weekends. They have the best Huevos Rancheros in town. I have never been fond of Las Americas. And if I was to base my opinion of how good a place was on the strength of the chips and salsa, then I would be back at taco bell.
Taco Bell has good chips and salsa?
Home-made chips and salsa CAN and almost always DO show the quality of the other food. If that much attention is given to chips and salsa - you can be almost sure the entrees are also given the individual attention necessary.
Sheesh!
I didn't know Taco Bell had Salsa.
I did know Taco Bueno is doing party burritos and tacos 2 for $1.
I also know Taco Tico on 21st (new location) has fried fruit pies.

Excellent fried pies...and only a dollar each.
the gorditas at Tacos San Pedro are tough to beat...spicy pork or beef cheek. Way tasty
I've wondered about La Hacienda...now that I hear good things, I'll try it!
Los Cabos is overrated IMO.
Truthfully, I really enjoy Chimi's. Chips and salsas are really great; I like the individual bowls where you can mix the "Fresca" and the "Picante" to your liking. I think their enchiladas are excellent with the Sonoran Enchiladas being my fave. My husband likes the Florentine Enchiladas.
I remember the old days of Chimi's when the line to get in went out the door and onto the sidewalk. Granted, it may have slipped a bit since the Gomez's owned it, but I think their quality is still outstanding. We've never had a bad experience there with food or service.
My 2ยข.
La Hacienda has a pulled pork which is to die for. Try that for your first time.
How much are the Gorditas at Tacos San Pedro?
We just got back from Mexico and I'm already dying for the food.
Does anyone know if you can get good Huaraches and Mixote in Tulsa? The Huraches are made from corn like a big tortilla but kind of oval shaped, and filled with refried beans, meat of your choice and a white cheese and green salsa. To die for!!

My husband went to the very same place and declared it Tex-Mex, and no where near authentic Mexican food. We lived in Mexico and travelled all over the country, so I think he is a pretty good judge of authentic food.
Of course there are things in "authentic" Mexican food down in Mexico that the Tulsa County Health Department frowns on here. Might be part of the difference.
Personally, there's some "authentic" items which taste like dirt to me.
"Las Americas" is only slightly more "authentic" than Taco Bueno. Not that it's bad, but it's not Taco San Pedro.

I don't exactly consider tongue tacos to be "tex-mex."
Honey -
I agree with your husband - Las Americas is good - I eat there about once a week - but it is more tex than mex. A LOT more mex than the franchise places (tongue tacos, heladeria on premises, etc.)- but still miles from authentic.

Sure, and an enchilada is an enchilada everywhere you go. Doesn't matter where, it's all the same right?
Seriously though, it's mostly ingredients. And I'm not saying Las Americas is terrible. Some people really like that stuff. I'd eat there.
You can get goat meat at The Cancun, that's pretty authentic.
I don't think their food is as good as I remembered it being when they opened. Might just be a little too authentic for my tastes.
"Authentic" mexican food ruined a perfectly good vacation to Puerto Vallarta 2 years ago...or was it Cancun...who knows, all I remember was counting tiles on the bathroom floor for 6 days...Viva intestinal parasites!!!

Should I hold you down while Conan worms you......
Heh. Reminds me of the last time I was in Cancun. We were warned not to purchase any food at a little convenience store across the street from our hotel. Several of us got a hankering for a greasy hamburger and ignored common sense.
The same several of us wound up with Montezuma's revenge.
At the airport I mentioned something about looking forward to being home later that night. One of my buddies looked at me and said: "I'm just looking forward to being able to fart with confidence again..." [}:)]

Nope at Los Cabos, they're uncooked.
Sounds like another reason to never bother with Los Cabos. Not that I was ever going to.
Just from the looks of it, it reminds me of any ordinary Ted's. Been there once in OKC, ain't goin back.
I have never seen huraches anywhere in Tulsa. Not even the taco truck that parks on north Sheridan.
I miss those Roach Coach burritos.

A greasy hamburger? Why would anyone hanker for that?
We have visited Mexico eight times over the last 11 years.
Drove all the way from Tulsa to Cancun one time. Stopped off along the way at many cities and states, and not once did we get sick from the food. This last visit we ate at small restaurants (family owned) and little hole in the wall establishments. Not one of us was sick. Yet my kids almost died from food poisoning a few years ago at McDonalds on Yale (close to Promenade). Ain't that something?[:D]
There is a pretty authentic Mexican place on 11th just West of Harvard in a small strip mall on the North side of the street. I can not think of the name, but it is as authentic as I have had here in town.
