Now we know that cars are not the best thing to put in a vault for 50 years...but what are good things to put in a vault today that would make Tulsans excited about digging it up in 2057.
A Driller ballcap, a Quik Trip taquito, some Bama pies...a DVD of the "Channels", a Mayfest poster, some Weber's root beer...
What would you put in a vault?
Rosie Odonnel.....
An outline of Vision 2025 projects
12 male dogs, a 2000 gallon shallow tanks of water, and 350 pounds of day old donuts.
Who pushed my morbidity button?
a french drain
A FIBERGLASS ROW BOAT & A STAINLESS STEEL CONTAINER OF TODAY'S TAP WATER
I'd toss in a few fossils to throw them off.

I was thinking more along the lines of a couple Tulsa Now Forum members.[:D]

Only if you put in replacement batteries.
Canned tuna will be gone in 50 years because of mercury concerns...I would put a couple of cans of Starkist in.
I don't think we will be drinking beer out of glass bottles in 50 years either...add a six pack or two in the vault.
I am trying to think of things new in the last year...maybe a Wii computer console or some Webkinz stuffed animals.

Take two six packs out of circulation for 50 years? What a waste. Unless it's Milwaukee's Best that is.
I'd guess I'd plant a 2007 Plymouth and hope for better luck in 2057

Plymouth was shut down over 5 years ago.
I think Mr Belvedere died too so that can't happen either.
Maybe a bottle of Oklahoma wine. The beer is nice and all but who's going to drink that after 50 years? Wine, however, ages well.....so I'd put something a few of the folks could crack open, have a drink and remember the even and the folks who put it there.

lol
A pair of silicone milk canteens.
A piece of lumber from Zingo.
How about dropping the Belvedere back in another capsule and letting it sit for another 50 years? Then the next contest can be to guess what the pile of rust is.
What about Chuck Norris? He would eat through the rust.
A copy of the program KOTV produced last night.
KOTV, shame on you. Very poor example.
A copy of the Centennial Edition of The Atlas of Oklahoma by Danny Goble (RIP) and Robert Goins.
An Ipod.
A Blackberry.
a Laptop, with WI FI.
A DVR recording of Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC, Daily Show, and Colbert Report.
Water from the river.
An Aerial of Tulsa.
Doubleshot Coffee
A piece of wood from the floor of Cain's Ballroom, or a poster from the 2007 Jeff Tweedy show at Cain's Ballroom OR a live recording of the Wilco show at Cain's Ballroom.
Cesar Pelli.
A Prius.
They are advertising a new time capsule to be buried in october.
I'd like to see another car be put in a time capsule, any car would be fine. Tulsa should start a tridition of doing that, planting a car in a time capsule every 50 years. The '57 Plymouth was around $2,500 and that was a ton of money back then, Why not plant something like an $16,000 car today- it'll still be a gem when it comes out in 50 years brand new. The city spends thousands of dollars on tourism ads why not plant a car and attract world wide attention. The new time capsule would have to be built as if it was going to be sitting on the bottom of the Arkansas River for 50 years totaly water proof, maybe even do maintence and check the capsule every 5-or 10 years just to be sure it's not leaking. They should of checked this time capsule every so many years just to see if anything breached it, if water was found they could of sliped in a hose and pumped it out thru a small hole and then seal up the hole. It would of saved a high value car.
Like I said, drop a case of silicone implants in there and there wouldn't be a problem.
I second the Rosie O comment but, I'd shoot her out into space.[:D]

A few CD's, a few DVDs, a couple of movie posters, loads of photographs-and I'd return to Tulsa just to do that, too.
Laptops, big screen TV's, Ipods, and all kinds of other fun stuff? If they dig it up in 50 years and only find an empty vault with a side tunnel dug in, don't come looking for me. hehe
Put in a bunch of those USPS "forever stamps"
Since stamp prices rise faster than inflation, those would be better than gold.
I'd like to see some sort of car perhaps a VW Bug, it'll be easy to build a time capsule for it, it's small and can be wraped in 3 layers of cosmoline easy. it should be a nifty car in 50 years- But we must make sure the vault holds this time or the folks of 2057 will be saying things like "they shoulda done this and that back in 2007, what were the people of 2007 thinking, didn't they learn nothing about time capsules from that 1957 Plymouth failure"? ... "Now we have another wet car to display next to the '57 Plymouth in the Tulsa Hall Of History Display showcase[^][:P]
In the movie "Sleeper" by Woody Allen, they wrapped him in aluminum foil before freezing...I suppose to "lock in the freshness".
He unthaws and finds a VW bug in a cave that starts the first time.
^Great movie!
Could we put Paris Hilton in there? Maybe they would stop talking about her. Course, more likely the "news" channels would spend the next 50 years speculating on what she will look like when she comes out. Oh, if we could only put the 24/7 news stations in there.... That, and maybe a pair of Crocs (50 years from now, I can hear what they would say: "$30 for a pair of plastic shoes? We're they crazy?").

That's an good idea, put a book of those "forever stamps" in the glove box of the next car we bury, and see if the post-office will still honor them in 2057 when the postage rates will likely be well over a $1.00.... The next car will have to be buried in a steel vault or a boiler-like vault, no more cement capsules they are too prone to failure.
I don't know what to think of all this squirrel like behavior.
A deed to an acre of land
Water Sensors and a sump pump (along with the French drain) Humidity Control.
Of course, they'd probably tie the pump into the street lighting circuit.
-Apple ipod with songs from 2007
-Plasma TV
-A hit movie from 2007 on Blu-ray disc
-A digital camera
-Aerial photos of downtown
-Digital video recordings of entire streets from end to end for each major street in Tulsa.
-GPS system
-A credit card
-The current collection of state quarters
-The current collection of new bills
-Vision 2025 outlines
-The American statue outlines
-Union, Jenks, and Broken Arrow yearbooks
-A PS3, Wii, and XBOX360
-Clothes typically found at Woodland Hills Mall
-Shoes
-Road maps
-Satellite images
-Phone book
-A piece of concrete from the 1957 vault
-A piece from Bell's Amusement Park
-A Wal-Mart sign
-A huge Quiktrip mug
-Cell phone (Apple iPhone)
-A piece from the Boeing plant
-A laptop
-One of those energy efficient light bulbs
-A downtown parking meter
-Current Tulsa World, USA Today, NY Times, Chicago Tribune, etc..
-Celebrity tabloid magazines
....and a partridge in a pear tree!!
That's all I can think of that I would think people in 2048 would find interesting.
AZlong with my earlier suggestion (a piece of lumber from Zingo),I would also add:
A chuck of concrete from our current Civic Center.
A ticket to Big Splash.
A sales circular from Reasor's.
A Tulsa phone book (but only one of the popular editions).
A group photo of as many city employees as possible.
More to come . . .
I think typical things from 2007 will be the best bet, maybe a TV set from 2007, DVD/VCR unit and things like that. The buried car should also be a 2007 car.
I'm going to add Nancy Grace.....
I think it should be a 2007 truck or SUV with a V8 or larger.
Add to the nostalgia in 2057.
Also - - - - a popular model of one of the current Cell phones.

Yes but that would require a big boiler vault. A small car like a VW Bug would be easy to get into a steel boiler vault. A pick-up truck would be a good idea though it's the most popular vehicle on the roads today (or an SUV) that's how they did it in 1957, they picked the Plymouth because they thought it was the most typical/popular and common run of the mill car there was in 1957. We also should pick one of the most common vehicles on the road today to put in the vault. I wonder who plans to pay for all this? (Making the vault, labor, backhoes, and the like)

I think yptulsa is raising money. One of those yp things.
The one thing I think they MUST put in the new vault at any cost is a booklet or two of those new "Forever Stamps"... I'd like to be around in 2057 and see if the post office would still honor them.[:P]
