Title: Coburn Mulling Run
Post by: Chicken Little on May 29, 2007, 03:04:39 PM
From American Spectator (//%22http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=11497%22)
quote:
Sen. Tom Coburn is mulling an entry into the Republican presidential primary, according to sources inside and outside the Senate. Coburn, a senator from Oklahoma, is believed to be receiving encouragement from a small group of wealthy businessmen and philanthropists in the Oklahoma-Kansas-Texas region of the country.

"He's all about faith, lower taxes, and staying the course in Iraq," says an adviser outside of the Senate who has been speaking to Coburn.

One thing I do like about Coburn is he is a true budget hawk and seems to be less enamored of lobbyists than other legislators in DC.  The thing I'm most uncomfortable about is he tries to insert God too far into our gov't.

He hasn't got a chance at getting the nomination.  Sounds like some ultra-conservatives who don't like Rudy or Mitt's stance on abortion and/or gay marriage are trying to get a true pro-lifer in there.  Good luck with that.

I guess that means if he nationalizes health care we all get free boob jobs since, according to Coburn, silicone implants are healthier than natural breasts.
Someone dumber than bush? Coburn's your man!

It will never happen.

Hey, I said over on the abortion thread, the government should NOT be paying for implants...

Coburn needs to be in charge of the budget.

And nothing else.

Coburn's run, while completely laughable on every front imaginable, is nothing more than the age-old attempt to frame debates and ensure certain topics and viewpoints come out during the campaign season. That's the reason why candidates who don't stand a chance run for office.

From Tulsa World (//%22http://tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=070530_1_A5_spanc67651&breadcrumb=government%22):

Coburn's aide denies presidential rumors
"Dr. Coburn has never mulled running for president and has no intention of running," an aide said.

Interesting choice of words.  Think the guy trolls this board?

As ludicrous as a Coburn campaign for president strikes us, I don't think this idea is far from his thoughts.  About 90 percent of Coburn's work has been centered on symbolic posturing, meant to build his reputation at the expense of the people's business.  Looks like naked ambition to me.

I ran into someone in Coburn's inner-circle at dinner Friday night and wound up spending an hour at his table.  Not a chance of him running.  I believe he's starting to see the futility in standing up to the DC power base and their billions & billions in lobbying money.

Sorry you guys dislike someone so badly who actually wants to stem government waste.  Yes, he is too far to the right on some of the more moral issues for my comfort, but I would think his fiscal initiatives would be welcome to every tax payer.
