The family and I headed down to Mayfest and the Blue Dome Arts Festival on Saturday and had a great time. Not only was all the art great to look at, the bands fun to hear, and the food hard on the stomach - but it was great seeing people downtown.
I've posted some pictures for your viewing pleasure. I'm afraid the pictures are mostly to give a feel for what it was like to people that were not there. I would have loved to take more pictures of some of the art work and the interesting people - alas, my 7 year old was not interested in sticking around as long as I was.
(I'd post some pictures, but I refrain from perma links on my servers, so click away)
Glad you got a photo of the kid with the home-made drum kit across from Arnie's. BDAF had a really good vibe.
The construction you saw was the El Guapo restaurant. First street lofts was next door. Had floorplans laid out and everything.
I looked at all your pictures, but where was the TulsaNow booth?
The Tulsa Now Booth was off to the right in the first series of pictures. You can just make it out. I did not take a picture of it from closer up because it was empty! No body home. I did not want evidence of this empty post. [:D]
I have a movie of the kid on the drums too, alas, I neglected to turn my sound on though - making it kinda worthless. He was really good though, I gave him and the blue grass-ish band a few bucks.
PROOF that there are interesting and creative people in Tulsa that want somewhere to go. Hopefully the area keeps developing and we can see them out on a normal weekend.
Might become Tulsa's "Beale St.".
After hearing about Beale St. for years, I remember being somewhat surprised it was only a couple of blocks long. I'd envisioned it as being a quarter or half mile strip of jazz & blues clubs. Still cool though.
I enjoyed the pictures - thanks for sharing.
That drumming kid is worth stopping for.
He's got moxy, too.
