Title: Route 66 Train Station
Post by: sgrizzle on April 27, 2007, 10:16:26 AM
Don't know if rwarn ever posted it here, but thought it deserved dicussion. The train at bells was brought up so I thought about the frisco4500.

Someone made the comment on RW's blog about the engine being moved from Mohawk Park.  Isn't this the same locomotive that the Sunbelt trust was trying to restore to use on the scenic line from Collinsville to Bartlesville (or Pawhuska, or???) back in the late '80's or early '90's.

Nice blog by the way, RW.[;)]

It's being renovated, but to "act like" it works but not actually move:

Thanks for the plug. I don't cross-post Route 66 items hardly ever because I don't want people to think it's spam. An awful lot of material goes on the site.

It's my thing, and I don't feel the need to hyper-promote the site like Paul Tay did with his all those many months ago.

But if you see something of interest on Route 66 News that you want on TulsaNow, go right ahead.

I'm sure we don't need every nut and bolt, but major items like this should get some air over here I think.

That story was a little dated, any news?

I appreciate that you don't spam it.  Since you don't have a bunch of pop-up ads trying to get click-through revenue, I don't see the harm in mentioning it if there is something topical on there which would be of interest.

Are Jeff and Laura from Illinois still as heavily involved in Rte. 66 as they used to be?  They were a couple of the "original roadologists". I was pretty active in the Ok. chapter back in '89 and '90 and haven't really kept up.

If you mean Jeff Meyer, he's definitely still involved with Route 66. He and his wife divorced years ago, but they still stay in touch.

Jeff won the Steinbeck Award at the annual national awards banquet, in 2003 I believe, which was a big deal.

In terms of Route 66 Station, I haven't heard anything since posting that, other than hearing that everything is moving slowly but surely in the right direction.

Sometimes I don't post local items here not because of modesty, but because I forget. [xx(]

Yep, Jeff Meyer, that's the guy.  I always liked his enthusiasm for the road.
