Title: Looking for an old Tulsa Public School
Post by: RLitterell on March 16, 2007, 09:39:59 AM
Can anyone tell me the name and exact location of an old Elementery School that was located on South Harvard? If my memory serves me correctly it was on the west side of the road and located between 17th and 21st. It might have been a little further south. Located across the street was an old furniture store named Colonial furniture (C. 1960's) that eventually became a harware stare. Any help with the school name and hundred block of south harvard would be appreciated. Having the exact street address of the hardware store would solve my problem. Thanks Again
Russell

Could be Nellie, While a native to Tulsa I have not lived there in 30+ years. I thought the school was on the west side of Harvrd but I could be so wrong. Was Lanier ever known by another name and is it an older building? I am actually searching for the hardware store location and its original owner JC Jones who was the proprieter of Colonial Furniture. I used the school as a reference because I remembered it being near by and across the street.

Sidney Lanier Elementary is at 17th & Harvard, 1727 S. Harvard, east side of the street.  It has been there for years, my brother went to kindergarten there in 1958.  It is still open as an elementary school.  Across the street in recent years was a TruValue or Ace Hardware store.  I believe the hardware store closed last summer 2006.
