Wow. I mean, really - wow.
Next time you're downtown, check out the northwest side of the site, where they've started installing the steel skeleton that will encompass all the concrete work built to date.
You guys aren't going to believe the size of this thing when it's done.
I was rather struck by the angle of the beams. Pretty dramatic.
"Struck by the beams", you don't mean really struck, right? As in the angle of them now sticking out of your head?
You seen the new Phoenix football stadium, looks like a puffed up marsh-mellow, maybe steriods.
Kinda cute, jdb
What, you didn't take any pictures? For shame.
No need for pictures when you have arena cam!

Who needs millions in economic benefit?
Who needs sales tax revenue?
Who needs free advertising for thier city?
Wow, I can't think of a single business downtown that would benefit from that!
Well I meant who needs to watch the NCAA Tournament when we can watch the BOk Center cam.
But I too look forward to them bringing people to our fare city.
This topic prompted me to take my camera with me to work today, so I took some shots of the Steel from the 42nd floor and then got some up-close and personal shots as well. You can view larger images (and several more images of it) here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dscott28604/

I knew it was going to be larger, but thats looking larger than I thought. Drove around the NW side of downtown on the highway today and you can already start to imagine that it will definitely change the appearance of downtown from that side. Will actually be a rather dramatic change once the siding goes up and its one huge structural mass. Gonna be neat to watch as it progresses this year.

I agree; I went downtown yesterday and took multiple photos. Problem right now is on the north side (1st St side) there are so many company trailers it impedes my view.
It will be impressive once it's completed.
Arena Cam broke :(
Neat pictures.

Working on it... looks like a power surge on the east looking one. we will reset it and see if it works and the West facing camera is still out and waiting on parts after the ice killed it. Oh and the EXPO camera is supposed to be up sometime this week if the weather will allow for the crew to climb.
Everybody should have a couple-three of these... harder to keep running than my first car.
Without web cams I am forced to assume work has halted and bureaucrats are pocketing my money. You have caused me to lose my faith in government. Stupid web cams.

I drove by just to doublecheck. The steel really does look like it's making a massive structure even more massive.

Great pics, brother. It makes me proud to see hardworking Americans making a living wage to do the so called "jobs Americans won't do". Keep up the good work! United we bargain, divided we beg.

Really cool pictures. I wish they let the general public in there to take pictures, fear of heights aside.

Fear of 12% workmans comp rates (stupid Oklahoma workers comp laws).
ARENA CAM BACK UP:

Are those metal "skin" samples hung up on the west side of the arena today?

The latest report has some cool pictures of the site from on top of the Williams Towers and some from around the site itself. Gives a good perspective IMHO.

There's been quite a bit of visible progress since that last pic.
I know Average Joe is going to enjoy this statement........the folks at vision 2025 are going to need to zoom out on the arena cam, you can't see all the things that are going on because its gotten bigger.
Went by there today. You can see the frame for the curtain wall which is enormous, as well as the support structure for the tallest part of the building (the sail immediately behind the glass wall.)
So for those wondering how tall it is going to be, go take a look.
Reminded me to post the pictures that I took of it last week:

Yeah, there is the peak right there.
I guess I never fully understood just how massive the glass wall was going to be. Then I stopped by to take the pictures and *BAM*!
This place already looks fantastic and will definitely stand out (at least architecturally) against other arenas (though KC's is pretty unique, too). Thank God it's no Ford Center. [}:)]
What do you guys think are the chances of some other company wanting to buy out naming rights once they see it finished?

The only other company capable would be Quik Trip, as far as I could imagine.

I want Mack Trucks or Mac Tools to have naming rights to the arena.
Then we could call it the Mac Arena.
We already have the dance.
Ba-dum, crash! He'll be here all week ladies and gentlemen!
Tip your waitress!
[:D]
I noticed the've started placing the stainless steel tiles on the exterior the other day. There are about 10 tiles in place on the southside of the arena. Very cool!

I was under the impression that BOk had a contract to hold the naming rights for a number of years, but I could be wrong.

That should be a test panel installed for approval of the appearance and installation method prior to beginning the bulk of the work, it id due to be done about now...

Yeah, I didn't see it either, on the south side at least.
I think the panels are on the east side. But you can't see the finish on them. They still have a wrapper on them covering the finish.

Dang it, I always miss them somehow! Tonight I drove past the
west side, after having driven by the east side and not seeing any...
Are they playing musical chairs with the stainless??? I want to see it!

The east side is almost completely covered in the panels. But they don't exactly look like stainless; I think they have some kind of protective covering on them.

All I've seen is those blackish wall panels. I'll have to look again.
Those blackish wall panels are the stainless panels ya goob. The black is just the plastic protective covering put on for transportation and construction purposes. Kind of like when you get a new electronic device it often has that clear or blue piece of plastic on the shiny metal or glass parts ya have to pull off. Except in this case on a bit larger scale.[:P] Perhaps they will do a big "reveal" and pull the plastic off all at once. Can you imagine the remote this shiny new toy will have?[8D]
The stainless panels are on the north side of the arena, facing 1st Street. They go on over the larger panels covered in black plastic.

Yeah, my cousin and I started at the CC parking garage (last time it wasn't open, so we couldn't go to the top) and moved up to 3rd and Denver, then we moved to 1st and Elwood.
Much more pleasant morning than the one we did last August, during the heat wave. It was muggy though.
