OK, am I missing something? Why is our local news and law enforcement latching on to things like this?

I could have sworn we've had over a dozen homicides and countless violent crimes in the first quarter of the year. Shouldn't we be giving giving more attention to those things?
I love animals. I believe that their are no bad breeds, only bad owners. Why would TPD, the city or anyone else care if a condemned animal was taken from a shelter (unless it was going to be used for fights). I don't understand how you gage that crime either. What value does the city place on an animal that is deemed "unadoptable"?
Anyone, anyone??? I'm stumped with this whole story.
If they stole a pit bull, there is a VERY high chance they weren't stealing it to give it to their niece. It was going to fight.
People who fight pit bulls frequently "adopt" puppies to use them as bait in training -- they let their dogs kill them to get the taste of blood. People who giveaway or sell puppies in walmart parking lots or through free ads should be aware that not all people give dogs good homes. I also think that Tulsa Now should ban free pet ads. It is bad practice.
So what should people do when they are irresponsible and have extra puppies?
Im going to assume they are irresponsible or they wouldnt have puppies in the first place - so they are unlikely to take the time to find good homes for them all. At least they are taking the time to give them to people instead of just ditching them.

There are resources out there for adoption. Some veterinarians and the humane society will help. Selling them on the side of the road is illegal, as a lot of people on 71st have found out.
I understand that... I am not in favor of selling dogs on the side of the road nor of the puppy farms that generally support them. However, people should be able to post adds giving them away if they so desire.
Plus, those aid foundations only hold animals for so long before killing them. It is determined by the number of animals they currently have. Sometimes, if the animal has no tags they will only hold it for 24 hours before putting it down.
Other agencies only help with certain kind of animals (Lab Rescue, Animal Aid, etc). Most vets can only take it to notch animals because they simply cant help every abandoned pet. So the littler of mutts either gets given away, or tossed into the ditch.

So, according to your logic, because there are OTHER crimes being committed, we should look the other way on this one?
That doesn't make any sense, and a stray animal deserves humane treatment, which is highly unlikely once some low-class individual steals the animal with the intent of using it for sport.
I absolutely hate people who find joy in watching dogs fight. If I ever run into someone like that, I'm going to probably go to jail for enforcing a little of my own justice on them. So I guess I'm happy to see the police focusing on this one.
The only place locally where animals are euthanized is the Tulsa Pound (15,000 per year). Those aid groups never put down animals unless they are sick or deemed dangerous and therefore unadoptable.
That's why there is never room for more dogs or cats at Animal Aid, PAWS, Humane Society, etc. They rely on volunteers to foster the animals until a home is found for them. They hold them forever. I know aid groups who routinely house elderly dogs, which are very hard to adopt. They don't euthanize them just because they are old. They keep them until they die of natural causes.

Not at all what I was saying. My point was that "unless" sport was the reason for the theft, which I don't believe it was, that the skills of our investigators in law enforcement would be better served elsewhere. I'll ask again, what is the specific charge for stealing a condemned puppy? I am in no way condoning the act but I would like to know why the Tulsa pound has taken it upon themselves to decide one breed of an animal is unworthy of a future life. This was a mixed version of said breed at that.
As for the sport angle if that was the case, then I agree, find the thieves and use them for sport.
