Has anybody recently heard of the high school cheerleaders that failed a drug test but were NOT kicked of the cheerleading squad?
Why were they being tested to begin with?
Someone smokes a joint at a high school party and they should be kicked off a team?

People that failed drug tests in my school were put on probation if they participated in sports. But I think random drug testing is a good thing, of course. When I was in high school, I saw more drugs running around the school on any given day than I did on a typical drive down 11th street at night time. They need to do it more often. I think the randomized testing is somewhat biased though because it labels people even before they start testing like "oh, he just looks like a druggie". If it does become standardized, then it should be a random draw through a computer and those who failed should have a higher frequency of being picked. It's only logical to do it that way.
Does this mean that if you sign up for a class at TCC they will drug test you.......?

Drug testing for athletics keeps drugs a seasonal recreating for most students. [;)]

Funny, I'm okay with it.
Why? What does it matter if a kid smokes marijuana or not? If anything, him/her playing sports keeps them farther from drugs. So, in typical bonehead fashion, we kick them off the sports team, ruin their confidence and take something positive from their life.Sounds like a great idea!

Well and nothing gets me pumped up for a game like shoplifting and nothing calms the nerves in those tense times like some underaged drinking.
We're talking about being a minor, breaking a law, and being under the influence likely during school sponsored events.
Drug test don't prove you're under the influence at the time. They just prove you have indulged within a month or so.
I don't remember anyone on my basketball, lacrosse or any other high school teams I played on being 'high' or 'drunk' for games. Only on the weekends or during their own personal down time. That's a faulty assumption of yours in my opinion.

...that you knew of. Just because it didn't happen on any of the teams you were on doesn't mean it's not happening elsewhere.
I know for certain it was happening on my HS football team back in the early '80's.
Fine, give a breathalyser test at your child's games when he hits high school. Include everyone while you're at it.

All rights to privacy and the silliness of a counterintuitive policy aside. Won't do anything to curb binge drinking (and driving)which is a bigger problem really. Institute a drug testing policy and the popularity of smoking grass might drop a bit (stays in your system a loong time), so guess what actually becomes MORE popular - crank, cocaine (drugs that you can flush out within a day or two for somebody who is active and has a high metabolism) Kids aren't stupid, just think they are invincible. Which would you rather have the kids experimenting with? A relatively benign natural substance or a highly addictive 'who knows what' powder?
