Title: Anyone else get a PM asking for money?
Post by: deinstein on March 04, 2007, 12:24:22 AM
Here is what it said in my message:

From Esther Totime.

Cote D' Ivoire.

Abidjan.

Dearest one.

I have a proposal for you-this however is not mandatory nor will I in any manner compel you to honour against your will. I am esther totime, 23years old and the only daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs amanda. My father was a highly reputable busnness magnet-(a cocoa merchant) who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.

It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously in France during one of his business trips abroad year 12th.Febuary 2005.Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time. But God knows the truth!

My mother died when I was just 4 years old,and since then my father took me so special. Before his death on Febuary 12 2005 he called the secretary who accompanied him to the hospital and told him that he had a sum of 7.500,000 US DOLLARS (seven. five) MILLION USA DOLLARS)kept in a security company in (AFRICA).

He also said that the security company does not know the content of the safe Box.He decleared it as family treasure and used my name to Deposit the Box as his first daugther for next of kin. He also explained to him that it was because of this wealth that he was poisoned by his business assocaites, That I should seek for a foreign partner in a country of my choice where I will transfer this money to and use it for investment purposes.
I want you to assist me in clearing this box from the security company and then transfering the fund inside the box into your account overseas as a beneficiary of the fund, and also use it for an investment purpose.

I am just 23 years old and a university undergraduate and really I don't know what to do.
Now I want an account overseas where I can transfer this funds. This is because I have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis here in Ivory coast. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my life.

Dearest one, I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards Your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded.

Now permit me to ask these few questions:-
1. Can you honestly help me as your daughter?
2. Can I completely trust you?
3. What percentage of the total amount in question will be good for you after the money is in your account?
Please,Consider this and get back to me as soon as possible

Thank you so much.

My sincere regards,

Esther Totime.

Now I feel used! I just sent her $30,000 because she needed my help.

Well, I guess I will just have to go to Nigeria to speak with Ester and tell her how disappointed I am in her behavior.

I got it too, deleted it without reading it.

I get tons of that garbage in my personal email, most goes directly to spam folder.  I never even open the messages.  Ebay, paypal, "banking" emails (from banks I have never done buisness with), all sorts of phishing scams etc.  I can't believe anyone today falls for that nonsense.

Dear TuRoby:

Please send me some money.

My sister is wearing clothes from a discount store, my mother is ordering dinner from restaurant with cloth napkins, my dog is eating out of last year's dog bowl and I am forced to watch television on a tiny 27 inch HD flat screen television set.

I am just a mild setback away from gaving to rent out our servant's quarters to strangers.

Please help.

My cardboard sign says "will blog for food."

I'm creating a fake Gmail account and going fishing... wish me luck!  I believe it is my duty to screw with these people, perhaps I am wasting time that would be spent scamming a real person or if enough people scammed the scammers they would be forced to stop.

My goal is to get money or goods from them without revealing anything about my identity.  More likely, drag them out as long as possible. And have fun while doing it.

Go.

Dear Esther,

Per your request I would be happy to help you setup a bank account in the United States or to utilize one of my accounts if you desire.  I am a retired school teacher so I do not have a lot of experience with banking but I think I can help you out.  I am not sure what constitutes a fair price for such a service and dont want to start bidding against myself, so what do you think would be fair?  I have plenty of money set aside for my retirement but it would be nice to bolster my account while helping you out at the same time.

Please let me know what you think would be fair and what other steps you need me to help you with.

With God's love,

Gloria

"Pigeon Drop" is what my boss calls it.  They used to send it out via fax before email came into vogue.  I'd be a gozillionaire right now if any of those were true.  I can't tell you how great my luck is on those Dutch/English lotteries, I've been the grand prize winner at least 25 times on those.

Counting my wealth on email anyhow, I'm worth at least several billion dollars. [}:)]

RESPONSE!

Good Morning My Dear Sister Gloria.

I am very much happy as to receive your mail as I am in the hope that you are in good health of today.

My dear I have gone through with your mail, I want you to know that this money we are talking about is not deposited in a bank, but in a security company, yes we need the account but that will be when the trunk box that conten the money is been delievered to you i  your country, then you can take it to the bank and deposite the money.

You said that you have no experience in banking?, you don't need to be worried about it, before I contacted you I have plan very well on how the consignment will be deliver to your without any hitch, now I contacted the security company office here in Abidjan this morning after reading your message and explain to them to know how they can deliver the consignment to you in your country, so they told me that they are going to use their Diplomatic immunity so that when the consignment is coming on it's way no one will search or inspect the consignment, also that they need to obtain change of ownership on your name.

So I will like if you can contact the security company so that you talk to them as well as to know the next step so I hope that it is better for you to talk to the security company head office here in Abidjan, as I have also talk to them they said that they will like to hear from you so I am giving you their contact information so that you will contact them and discuss with them on how they will deliver the consignment to you without any delay or inspection from customs as well.

As I have earlier informed that the security company does not know that the consignment contents are money so try to keep it with your self alone, what the company knows is Family Valuable not as money because my late father did register it as a family valuable to avoid rising of eyebrow from the security company. So below is the security company contact.

Company Name; IMPEX ASSETS TRUST SECURITY  COMPANY(C.I)
Address; ave/12 no 14/ cocdy abidjan Cote'd Ivoire

So try as much as you can to contact them and ask them what it will cost them to deliver the consignment to your country without any problem.
please I will also like you to send me your home address and if possible your photo and telephone number for more details.

I will be stopping here until I hear from you soon
Yours sincerely

There are websites devoted to Nigerian 419 scam baiting. See how far you can take it! The more you can waste the scammer's time, the better.

Keep us updated, as this could get very interesting!

Throw in some good stuff, like, "oh my God, my wife has been kidnapped by a local casino mafia outfit, and I REALLY need this money now, Esther."

I think you should make a reference to some local area and make up a story about it.

Here is some info from Wikipedia about their country...

On one hand the city is hot and humid, congested and full of street hawkers. On the other hand, Abidjan is referred to as the "Paris of West Africa" because of its parks, broad boulevards, universities, exotic fashions and museums. Neighborhoods include Cocody, an upscale residential area located east of the modern business district, and Treichville, located southward on Petit-Bassam Island, with its busy traditional market. Banco National Park lies north of the city.

Make up a story about how your wife bought some fine art from a merchant from there once.

Dr. Steven's:

I understand you have been contacted by an associate of mine, Esther, in regards to the transfer of a consignment to me in the United States.  We are hoping to achieve this transfer as soon as possible and must avoid any and all delays.

I have been instructed to contact you to receive further instructions on facilitating this transaction.  I am trying to help a friend out and would really appreciate any assistance you can provide.  I don;t really have any experience with this sort of thing and don't have the skill or knowledge to look into it on my own.

I am pleased to be given a contact that hold a doctorates degree.  It is also nice to work with educated people.  May i ask where/what you received your doctorate?  I have some college and was wondering if we share a common background.

Thank you for your assistance.

With God's love,

Gloria

At this point it should be pointed out all emails are to and from a yahoo account.  The other email address listed is for a French site that provides
"postal services" including email.

Anyway... now there are two contacts going on.
-------------------------------

Dear Estherm

I need help getting the following documents per the Trust Company you put me in touch with.  Clearly I have never been the Ivory Coast nor do I speak French, so it will be difficult for me to get this documentation.

Please help.

1) AFFIDAVIT OF CLAIM FOR JUSTIFICATION  AND ATTESTATION  OF NEXT OF KIN  PROVE FROM MINISTRY OF JUSTICE IN ABIDJAN . TO CERTIFY THAT ESTHER TOTIME HAS APOINTED YOU AS THE NEW BENEFICIARY OF THIS TRUNK BOX  AND FOR ATTESTATION AND INREVOCATION  OF THE CONSIGNMENT DEPOSITED IN OUR SECURITY COMPANY.

- Gloria

---------------

Steven:

I'm afraid your caps button seems to be stuck on your computer.  It made the email pretty hard on the eyes.

Anyway,  I am going to need an address to send the requested information to.  I dont think the Untied States issues digital copies of passports.  Information I can provide to you by email:

My address is unlisted in the phone book, so please do not release this information to anyone:
Gloria Lavern Smith
P.O. Box 55845
Boston, MA 02205-5899

I will inquire to my contact to get the appropriate documentation for next of kin status.

Please advise of additional steps I need to take.  I am going to ask my son to help me facilitate this transaction so hopefully that will help speed up the process.

In Gods Love,

Gloria

That's scary. I just looked up the Wikipedia entry on Abidjan, and it has been hacked pretty bad with lots of profanity.

This little tidbit, however, seemed like a legitimate entry:

quote:
Because of the Ivorian Civil War, insecurity in Abidjan has risen, with some riots targeting foreigners as well as a sharp increase in criminality. Once one of the wealthiest and most peaceful cities in Africa, Abidjan is now considered one of the most dangerous cities on the continent.

Good Lord, and they want you to fly there in person! This is all good fun reading this baiting effort of yours, but everyone should keep in mind that the person on the other end of the keyboard over there is obviously a very dangerous individual.

If they work all day and bulk message people all over the internet, then eventually they will hook some poor sap, perhaps an internet noob, and God knows what would happen if someone actually followed through with this.

Entertaining, yet scary, if you know what I mean.
