Fellow Republicans and friends,
First, I want to thank you for all of your thoughts and
prayers as we have moved our Tulsa County Republican Party
forward.  Joy and I have constantly felt your prayers,
cherished your friendships, and appreciated your ideas.
It has been Joy's and my goal for our party to unite in a
way that "ALL" Tulsa County elected positions are filled
with fellow Republicans.  It is now a reality.  It could
not have happened without your hard work!  Our County
Party is fortunate that we are all working as a team for
the benefit of our Republican Party.
Unfortunately, most of Oklahoma's counties have not had
the same degree of success we've experienced.  It's not
because of failed county leadership.  It's not because
Republicans outside of Tulsa don't care about helping our
party and our candidates.  And it's certainly not because
our fellow activists are any less committed or hard
working.  The fact is right now we don't have a state
party willing to communicate and work with grassroots
leaders in building the party together.
Simply put, I want to change that.  I think the state
party needs to get back to the basics and reconnect with
the grassroots.  The party must fundraise, but it must
spend wisely as well.  And the party must adapt to new
political technology so we can be an effective force for
electing Republicans statewide.

With this in mind I am writing you to tell you about my
recent announcement to run for State Party Chairman.   I
think the successes we have experienced in Tulsa County
have set an example for how Republicans could operate
statewide.  You may have already heard that I am running,
and I wish I would have had the opportunity to call every
Republican I have worked with as county chairman
beforehand.
To be honest, I never imagined I'd be running for this
position, and I only made my final decision a few days ago
after much prayer and conversation with my wife and
family, friends and fellow county chairmen from across the
state.  I made my announcement Saturday to coincide with
the state committee meeting.
The Democrats are obviously energized with the results of
the latest national election.  We MUST energize ourselves
to meet this challenge as a UNITED REPUBLICAN PARTY!  It
is very possible that some of our state's most important
positions will be challenged in 2008.  If we don't act now
to get our state's grassroots fellow Republicans united
and energized we could suffer the consequences of hard
challenges from the Democrats.  We must act and we must
act together!
Your Tulsa County Party Vice-Chairman Joy Mohorovicic and I have built life long relationships with so many of you while trying our best by volunteering our time and talents
to the Tulsa County Republican Party.  Thank you for energizing us at times most needed with your prayers and friendship.  It has been felt.
I have been humbled to serve as your chairman here in Tulsa, and now, I hope that I can count on your help and support in working with more Republicans.
As always, if you have any questions, call me at 627-5702 as we focus on our Tulsa County Convention at the Lemley Campus of TTC, 3420 S. Memorial, on Feb. 17th.It is time once again to get to work!
Sincerely,
Jerry Buchanan, Chairman
Republican Party of Tulsa County

Well, I would rather conserve my posts to gather as many comments as possible than go tit for tat with someone who happens to be online at the same time.
I thought it was interesting that he believes the fact we have GOP officeholders at the County level is significant; my point would be that the GOP lost the Mayor, several council posts, and has not been able to bring its mythical 'base' out to defeat any tax hikes.
Precinct organization is not any better, the corruption and GOB at the County level is stronger than ever, and he wants to ride that to greater heights of responsibility.
