A little less than most politicians. Its pathetic isn't it? To see what he has done to our country and his own credibility in such a willful way. Never have I seen someone so secure in himself yet so obviously deficient. It may actually increase his approval ratings (Americans love the underdog ya know. Surrounding himself with smarter, more competent people was worthless as they apparently were not listened to or never stood up and confronted him with reality.
I saw Lindsay Graham and Joe Biden on MTP last Sunday and Biden is still dumbfounded as to how two bright, experienced men like Cheney and Rumsfeld made such dumb decisions. Graham didn't disagree. They both feel most cabinet members are just holding on and holding their noses till the next election.
I cannot understand anyone that does not appreciate the understanding the pres' has of the gullible American people. When they go to church on Sunday, like he does, surely they understand that we are only going to build the new Babylon that will bring peace to the world. His intention is only to put another 22 thousand troops on the sacrificial stone altar of Abraham in the land of Ur. Oh yea persons of little faith. Vengeance has been satisfied for the attempt on daddy. Listen now to the noble justification of starting again the civil wars centuries old in that land. "Silence of the lambs".
Un-
frikkin'-believable.

A report released yesterday by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, said the IED problem came about in large measure because there were not enough U.S. troops in Iraq after the 2003 invasion to secure Saddam Hussein's ammunition caches.
In the weeks after the invasion, vast amounts of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, artillery shells and other explosives were stolen from unguarded Iraqi arsenals.
"IEDs made from looted explosives have caused about half of all U.S. combat fatalities and casualties in Iraq and have killed hundreds of Iraqis," the GAO said.
Still paying the price for Rummy's "invasion-lite" program.
You can't read this in the Tulsa World
"Teddy Kennedy gave a speech at the National Press Club yesterday about his new legislation that would require Congressional approval before troop levels can be increased. Afterward, he was asked if he would try to block the escalation with an amendment to an upcoming Iraq spending request.
"The horse will be out of the barn by the time we get there," Senator Kennedy replied. "The president makes his speech now. We're going to get the appropriation request probably the end of January, early February." He said it could take eight more weeks for Congress to act. "By that time, the troops will already be there," he said. "And then we'll be asked, are we going to deny the body armor to the young men and women over there?"

The cougar and bufflao are very nice vehicles, but Iraq would be over before the manufacturer (Force Protection, Inc) could even get a factory ready to build them. They are extremely high cost and slow-production. The U.S. has 36 on order now but those will take a great deal of time to be built.
Cougars, Buffalos and Bears aside, what did everyone think of the prez's speech last night?
The few items that stood out more than anything to me where his mention of Iran, Patriot Missiles, and that pesky second Carrier Task Force.
^ I think the greatest threat to national security is the lack of wisdom, altogether. Wisdom is better than strength and weapons of war, according to Ecclesiastes.
Bush is servant of the sword of the king of Babylon, rather than of the word of the Lord (which is the righteous sword). But, as the prophet Ezekiel said, "appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come forth of one land......"
Bush should opt for the brotherly covenant which extends to all quarters, rather than rack up more blood of the slain to the account of the hypocrites.

Chicken Little's "Un-frikkin'-believable" is on target. That was my response to Junior's first convention and it's gone downhill from there. We assume the U.S. is invincible but I really think Bush has taken us to the brink. These are dangerous times for us thanks to Junior.
You saw the clip of Daddy Bush sobbing and breaking up at Jeb's goodbye party. I know why Dad was crying and it didn't have anything to do with Jeb.
Anyway, the speech last night was muddled and confusing. We are even less clear on our mission today than yesterday.
I don't think antagonizing the hell out of Iran with Carriers, Patriot Missiles, and rhetoric is a good strategy. If we're destined to have 30+ years without level-headed diplomatic ties to Iran, I'd prefer to just ignore them rather than to keep them PO'd.
I'm doubtful, but keeping my fingers crossed that something good might come out of the "surge."
I'm no longer rooting against this guy, better to pity the inept, and root for the underdogs. I don't really want to see US standing in the world sink any lower, not sure how much farther it can go.
IMO, he looked shaken. I'm not sure he believed what he said.
You're not the only one who thought Bush looked scared, Michael C.

Maybe the prez does have another card up his sleeve.
It is assumed the prez' is improving his reading of the teleprompter but his screen writers scare him as it was noted his face is sure getting thin.
Nero could play the fiddle while he watched Rome burn but I not sure what the prez' is playing on as our flags are burned in defiance of his policies in the world that once respected our leadership..
He is very near getting another world war started. It is time to start the draft again to build up the army to more than 5 million.
Then his screen writers can use " Reelect him because we shouldn't change horses in mid-stream." It was done once could it be in our future again ?

Make Them Fight All of Us
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
Published: January 12, 2007
"Mr. President, you want a surge? I'll surge. I'll surge on the condition that you once and for all enlist the entire American people in this war effort, and stop putting it all on the shoulders of 130,000 military families, and now 20,000 more. I'll surge on the condition that you make them fight all of us — and that means a real energy policy, with a real gasoline tax, that ends our addiction to oil, shrinks the flow of petro-dollars to bad actors and makes America the world's leader in conservation."
http://select.nytimes.com/2007/01/12/opinion/12friedman.html?th&emc=th
http://satiricalpolitical.com/?p=513
In Senate testimony yesterday, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice insisted, under harsh questioning, that the President's plan to increase U.S. troops in Baghdad was not an "escalation," but an "augmentation." But who can quibble with such semantics?
Too bad Friedman was sll wrong about Iraq until ... oh ... five minutes ago.
As my father would say: "I guess he's a bit slow on the uptake."
It will be interesting to see to what extent Congress goes along with Bush's plans. The military can't do anything unless Congress approves the funding.
If memory serves me correctly, we finally ended our involvement in Vietnam in 1975 because Congress refused to fund President Ford's miltary budget requests. The military had no choice but to leave Vietnam, Saigon fell to the north, the Communists took over, and the world did not come to and end. Maybe a similar fund cut off is what it is going to take to get the US military out of Iraq. We can't stop the various Iraq factions if they want to murder and obliterate each other. They have to end the violence themselves and take charge of their own future.

Thing is the Britain is in the south which is a lot calmer than the north. I think fairly legitimately the British can withdraw a proportion of the troops without the whole thing collapsing.
I hope Bush doesn't try anything else on with Iran or Syria, because this time I don't think that even Britain or Poland will be dumb enough to help out.
I do a lot of sarcastic things on this board... The true emotions I have for all of this are that this President has done more to "promote" terrorism than he has done to quell the growth of same...
Whoever the next President.. I hope they are a true Politician, Bridge Builder, Consensus Builder, and live within the boundaries of reality... The recruitment of terrorist is easier today than it was under any previous Regime. These terrorist wackos have no problem pointing to the US and turning us into something that can easily be construed as the "Demon Infidels"..
To think that in 10 years or so... Bush will be remembered for being the "Great Divider" and Sadam the "poster boy" for terrorist, to continue down the road to bloody havoc in greater numbers than they have been at any other time, is quite troubling.
To think this man's Father was once the head of the CIA... "Oh what a wicked web we weave"
Saddam may have been an evil man but he was able to keep control of the population. He may have killed thousands but how many have we killed and still we are a long way from control of their's or our own country. We are trying to reinstall a government driven in exile in England. The English, I am sure were assured that it was another of those "When they see our uniforms they will lay down their guns." Like the promise of Korea, it just plain did not happen that way. As the English say "There is unrest again in the colonies."
In the future we should gather together our allies before we try to expand our own empire because during the last century we failed to enforce our type of government on any other country except for a short time.
Saddam was executed because he was a threat to our government whereas man had always been controlled by evil men.
So follow now the sheep as the evil men do lives after their internment and the good lies with them in their grave's.

You will not see this stuff in the Tulsa World. It was deemed intolerable and radical several years back by the then World editors who supported this major mistake in American history. "No Exit" understatement....
It's time to lift the ban on Moe, but they will not save face.
Another good read you will not find in Tulsa World.
