Title: Who is working on "A Day Of Mourning" Tuesday?
Post by: RecycleMichael on December 30, 2006, 08:22:49 PM
I understand why there is a need to honor a past President. I don't understand why some governments are taking the day off and others are not.

I guess the state workers needed the day off to recover from a late night Oklahoma Sooners football game.

I think it's a bit much considering they are tacking it on the end of a federal holiday. No banking, mail, etc for 3 days.

I have to go back Tuesday.

I'm sure my children missed me.

I see where Governor Henry is also giving state employees off on November 16th to observe the Oklahoma Centennial.

State employees already got eleven holiday days in 2007 and now will get two more. Thirteen days off plus two to five weeks vacation based on longevity...

Own and operate two businesses and am an investor and consultant in two others.

Tonight I am taking inventory and placing an order for 33 classes of participants for an upcoming annual motorsports event we produce every year in January.

I am also working on our display ads for print in six newspapers next week. I will email them later tonight.

yee ****ing haw.  to all the gov workers getting off....  enjoy your taxpayer paid holiday on me.  Now I expect you to work at double efficiency tomorrow (or about 60%) to make up for the lost work day.

... and no "close 20 minutes early because you are sick of helping people" business. We expect you to work a legitimate day.

My trash got picked up on both Christmas Day and this morning.....but it is a private contractor in the middle of nowhere. What is strange, their normal pick up day is Friday.

As far as working, I worked yesterday, I worked today, and tomorrow will work harder (no football to catch my attentions).

Seems like a lot of "pomp and circumstance" for such a debatably minor leader.  Granted, there were milestones in his presidency, but he won't go down in history as being one of the most effective nor one looked upon with great affection.

I would think a person as humble as Gerald Ford wouldn't have wanted such a big "to-do", especially for a president who was never elected.

That said, Betty Ford, with her openess about breast cancer and drug and alcohol addiction was easily the most positive and substantive influence as a first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt.

Okay... it was just annoying. I couldn't send anything today. I know that we should honor Ford, but this really sticks at my side.

They were off on the 2nd due to the national day of mourning; I don't know of any reason they wouldn't run on the 3rd though...mine did.

Maybe you should stop buying stamps to teach them a lesson.  [:D]

There was funeral stuff on the news today. Did his funeral last longer than his presidency?
