Along the same lines of "where is the best sledding," I was interested in people's opinion of the best area for Christmas lights. Obviously, there's Rhema, but for neighborhoods, where would you drive an out-of-town guest to see some of Tulsa's finest Christmas (or Holiday) displays?
I know, I know--all of the lights, blow-up contraptions, and whatever other electricity-sucking device is invented next are all tremendous wastes of energy. Still, I love to see them. I think I still feel deprived from my childhood days in the 70's when Nixon told the nation not to put up Christmas lights. My family secretly put them up inside our house. My parents never liked Nixon.
I prefer the neighborhood around the pond at 31st St & Gary Avenue. The whole neighborhood really puts forth a **tasteful** effort to add to the Christmas fun. Also, one house on 21st St. between Harvard and the fairgrounds always has an amazing display. This year, the tree is really dazzling--like every twig and branch and nook and cranny is covered with the little green lights. That tree is very amazing... best one I have ever seen. So far I have seen a pretty cool display close to 41st and Harvard. Another by the neighborhoods by Neighborhood Market on 81st and Sheridan has presents coming down the chimney. Then you have the Griswald of inflatables guy who decorates for his daughter in Bixby around 111th and memorial that lights up the whole block... if you haven's seen it try to venture out there... it is a sight to see.
For my money, bicycling around Maple Ridge is a wonderful way to see some purty lights.
There is a fellah just east of 41st/Harvard that has a synchronized light display with audio broadcast on 91.9 FM. One may want to park down the street and watch from the sidewalk versus the risk of being rear-ended.
Also, a peace sign on a fence near 31st/Riverside is worth a honk-honk . . .
I went through Maple Ridge and Terwilleger Heights on Friday night--they're incredible, so add those neighborhoods to the ones I mentioned above.

What's so amazing about that display is that it doesnt look like strings of lights propped on a tree, but rather the illusion of lights growing from the branches. Last year they didnt have on their floodlighting and it looked much better.
Truly amazing attention to detail, and worth looking at if your out and about.
We usually decorate around the roof line, with a dimmer so we can soften it a bit (and extend bulb life). No flashing or heavy icicles here, but were using more LED's (//%22http://brite-lite.com/Products/LEDChristmas.htm%22) (from Lowes) where we want color accents.

Yes, that is the display in Bixby I was talking about... take Memorial to 106th St and go east and turn right before the street ends. Then I believe you turn right again at the next intersection, but it might be a street down, but once you get into the neighborhood... you can tell where it is because they whole area is lit up, just look in the sky and you can find it. Sorry I don't have more precise directions
I've been going there for the past three years... not some much beautiful, but a pancakes?
I take my kids there every year...it is 87th east ave and 107th street south.
The story is that the guy's daughter loved christmas lights and she died in a car wreck which made him promise to set up this display for her to see in heaven.

I believe that is the original home of the couple who owned Bama Pie, Paul and Lilah Marshall.

I drove by that house at 21st & Jamestown last night, 12-28-06. The lights were still on and that large tree with all the green lights is fabulous. They obviously paid for professional light installers, or spent a heck of a lot of time doing it themselves. This house has had a beautiful display for 15+ years. I would encourage all to see this house before new years and the lights are gone.

21st and Madison, southwest corner is a kind of 'abstract' Christmas, very cool. sorry no pic.
The area just east of Lewis from about 25th to 31st. I think its called Forest Trails or something. Large estates that usually professionally decorate with a country manor feeling.
Just follow the helicopters.[:)]
