Title: Movies you just don't "get"
Post by: sgrizzle on November 27, 2006, 12:09:06 PM
Thought I should create another thread for movies people really like, but they never drew your interest. Mine are:

Gone with the wind
Godfather (all)
Borat

An Inconvenient Truth

I knew all the information already and Al Gore could make an energy drink into Nyquil.

Glad you said that.  We rented Inconvenient Truth over the weekend, and I was very disappointed.  Waaaaaaaaay too much Al Gore in it, and I don't even dislike Gore.  I was hoping for a much better, more detalied explanation of global warming--not flashbacks to the 2000 election.

I recently watched "Napoleon Dynamite" with my boys. Did anybody get this movie? What was the plot? I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never did? I will be sitting in my office or at home doing some chores and the thought will all the sudden pop in my head, "Just what was that "Napoleon Dynamite" movie about?" This movie may be the 8th great wonder, because it sure leaves me wondering a lot.

I think you have to be between 11 & 16 to "get it".  I took my younger daughter and one of her friends to see it at the theater, they couldn't quit talking about it, and I was just thankful it was over.  Both my daughters rented it repeatedly and still howl talking about parts of it.

Brazil--I enjoyed the movie, but couldn't really tell you what it was about.  Except for a fly landing on a keyboard.

Hi, I'd be happy to express some views on this very British take on civilization. I've seen it many times, and it is one of my faves.

I saw "Brazil" in the theater when it first came out around 1985.  I didn't "get it" then, but I enjoyed it enough to buy the VHS video version.  I have watched it about once a year since then.  Since 9-11, it has taken on a whole new meaning for me.  I think it was a film about 15 years ahead of its time.

Maybe it's time I watch it again.  As I said, I really did enjoy it.  Just one of those movies you walk away thinking, huh...wonder what that meant.

War of the Worlds '05

I loved the original radio broadcast, but although the special effects were good in this movie, it seemed to lack in continuity for me.
