Title: Aox! What're You Gonna Do...
Post by: Conan71 on November 07, 2006, 12:37:58 PM
If you wake up tomorrow morning and Nancy Pelosi isn't in position to become "Madam Speaker"?

Lord knows there have been a lot of very difficult elections over the years, but sometimes you work hard and get lucky.

How about John Murtha instead of Pelosi?

How about John Edwards running for president?

How about peace and prosperity and a sense of well being?

John Edwards doesn't have the poll numbers last I saw. Obama's got a decent showing though.

Best not to be the front runner this early.  Early front runners get knocked down.  I'd like to see him on the back burner until reality starts to set in.

John "Foghorn Leghorn" Murtha????  I thought you were all for getting crooks out of Congress.  Un-indicted co-conspirator in ABSCAM, one of the 25 most corrupt congressmen according to beyonddelay.org which is anything but a right wing "hit job" web site.  21 out of the 25 members cited are Republicans.

http://www.beyonddelay.org/files/Murtha.pdf

John Edwards- The Dems blew it in '04.  If the ticket would have been reversed, I believe that Edwards had enough appeal to centrist Republicans that he could be president right now.  He had the Clinton charisma without the baggage.  And I would have seriously considered voting for him.

I get my sense of peace knowing I don't have to worry as much about homeland terrorist attacks, I don't rely on my government for my sense of well-being and prosperity.

I got a little insight into you Conan when I read your post on another thread:

"Try Taking a dump in their fresh air inlet on their A/C unit. Take some Round Up and spray out the word a$$hole on their lawn. Carefully place a family of homeless squirrels in their attic vent...."

You are a case mister.  A smart one too.  I can see I've got my work cut out with you.  It's going to take one big love fest to stir up some sweetness in you.

Thanks HT, that's the best chuckle I've had all day.  I got that sense of humor from my *gasp* Democrat father. [;)]

Just checking in wise guys... Nancy will win the speakers house with over 25 seats being filled by democrats making them THE MAJORITY, neutering those types that put sh*t into our vents and making our country less free while hated by every decent society on the globe.

She will be a breath of fresh air....

The Senate may be harder due to loserman Leiberman and that goof from Rhode Island who calls himself a repug. But I am optimistic that there is a sea change going on as I type....unless the voter fraud thing by the repugs happens again...

Thanks for thinking of me...

According to the Associated Press, in at least 53 competitive House races, the National Republican Campaign Committee had launched hundreds of thousands of robocalls and appear to be violating the law.

Nothing new, just thought you'd know already.

Michael Moron?!?!?!?!?!?!?!  The Messiah of the left.  I'd definitely leave a treat for him in his vent, except I think I'd be overcome by the glue smell already in it. [xx(]

You may be cowed a little by pimping me because it will be a short evening...Spinning the Exit

Polls Early
The RNC just sent out detailed talking points about how unreliable exit polls have been over the past several elections. The key arguments are that exits polls typically have a Democratic bias and have wrongly predicted Democratic victories in recent years.

According to a source, the RNC expects leaked exit polls to show Democratic victories and do not want the news to discourage Republican voters from going to the polls late in the day.

Look for Brad Henry as a possible dark horse V.P. candidate. A candidate with 70% relection numbers and coat tails that helped carry other Democrats into office in red state Oklahoma will make the national party take notice.

No, you're just repeating your talking points/marching orders from the Republican chattering class.  You're use of the word propaganda is a complete giveaway.

It was amazing how ALL ON THE SAME DAY, the conservative chattering class ALL used the word propaganda only AFTER Moore's Fahrenheit 911... wasn't used to criticize any of his previous movies.  In fact, you'll find many repubs in agreement with points brought up in Roger & Me and The Big One.

And your quote characterization of "Michael Moron?!?!?!?!?!?!?!  The Messiah of the left" once again shows you've been drinking the partisan repub koolaid.

Evidently, to you, a balanced media is The Daily Oklahoman.  A newspaper whose idea of showing both sides of the story means you'll get the partisan conservative Republican side of the story and then the scathing-critique-of-the-worst-case-scenario-liberal-position...

Repub spin-meisters from The American Spectator and their history re-writing cohorts evidently believe in the legal concept of guilty AFTER being found innocent.  Funny how none of this (ABSCAM) was brought up by the conservative pundits BEFORE Murtha came out against the war in Iraq.  Nevermind the fact that the Abscam scandal is old news... over 25 years old, actually...

http://asp.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/CandidateProfile.aspx?ci=462&oi=H
quote:
John Murtha narrowly won a special election in 1974 and became the first Vietnam veteran to serve in the U.S. House.

During his legislative career, Murtha has been a House insider, loyal to the Democratic leadership and a favorite of then-House Speaker Tip O'Neill, D-Mass. In the probe of what became known as the Abscam bribery scandal, Murtha was the only congressman involved in the complex case to emerge without facing criminal charges. He declared he was innocent, saying he had "met with two men who I believed had a substantial line of credit that could provide up to 1,000 jobs for the district. I broke no law. I took no money." A grand jury and the House ethics panel cleared Murtha of any wrongdoing.

Hmmm... but let's try this... http://www.beyonddelay.org/report
http://www.beyonddelay.org/summaries/murtha.php

Murtha is NOT on their list of twenty.

Murtha is one of five on the list of dishonorable mentions along with former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, making him about as innocent as Dennis Hastert...

More recent activity of taking lots of donations from defense contractors is much more troubling... except the Repub activists seem hesitant to bring up anything other than ABSCAM, since the idea of republicans criticizing house members who get lotsa money from defense contractors would be akin to?... well, let's just say "thowing stones in glass houses"...

quote:
In 2002, Kit Murtha was hired by KSA Consulting, a firm that lobbies the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee on behalf of defense contractors. Mr. Murtha joined the firm at the invitation of top KSA official Carmen Scialabba, who had worked for Rep. Murtha on the House Appropriations Committee for 27 years.

In 2004, Congress passed a $417 billion defense appropriations bill that went through Rep. Murtha's subcommittee. The bill benefitted at least 10 companies represented by KSA and KSA directly lobbied Rep. Murtha's office on behalf of seven of those companies, which received a total $20.8 million in earmarks.

quote:
In the current campaign cycle, the PMA Group and 12 of the firm's clients rank in the top 20 contributors to Rep. Murtha, having made campaign contributions totaling $274,649. In turn, many of PMA's clients have benefited significantly from Rep. Murtha's earmarks. In the 2006 Defense appropriations bill, PMA clients received at least 60 earmarks, totaling $95.1 million.

I like him just fine.

I meant to imply that he could come out of relatively nowhere to national prominence very quickly.

He has done a fine job as governor, especially working with both sides of the aisle. He has also been blessed with a robust oil industry making larger payments in state taxes that have allowed him to accomplish many positive things.

I have only one big beef with him. I thought his tobacco sale negotiations with the tribes gave them too much of an advantage. Non-tribal retailers are being punished because of a difference of over nine dollars a carton.

I bet Governor Henry can spell potato as well.

I'm skeptical Henry will make any waves on the national scene.

I like the guy fine. I don't think he's as charismatically challenged as others claim he is (he seems like an affable next-door-neighbor guy who'd help you clean out your gutters with a smile). But he's a little too soft-spoken, IMO, for the national stage.

Quick question: Is Henry term-limited?

On a separate note: RM, you called it well on the Dem pickups in Washington. I was reasonably confident they'd take back the House, but I didn't think they'd be able to pick off so many GOP Senate incumbents. That was quite an accomplishment.

Henry is term-limited.

Thanks. I love to make predictions on elections. I go to lots of boards and I read lots of newspapers and that helps me guess.

I think that the democrats can't get a presidential ticket passed the voters without a southern governor on the ballot. Henry fits the bill.
