Twelve Arrested In Orange County Voter Fraud Scheme

"People are thinking about elections, they're thinking about the Democratic process, and I think this is a very good time to get that awareness up that voter fraud is not going to be tolerated, not in this county and not in this state."
In the worlds greatest democracy, voting is in tangles. You'd think this country could have made some improvement since Bush hijacked the vote in 2000.
If our votes aren't safe, neither is our democracy.....

"It's Not the People Who Vote that Count; It's the People Who Count the Votes"

Thankfully, our machine's provide a paper ballot. I have heard there are some risks and vulnerabilities with the electronic systems of these machines too, though. IMO, the flaw in our system is that it is not very well protected from voter fraud.
Oklahoma was a leader (surprise, surprise!) having standardized voting in all 77 counties more than 20 years ago with the optical scan voting system. It is no surprise that we have not had any major voting scandals/irregularities since then. I personally think this is the best system, providing computerized counting with a back-up paper ballot. I wouldn't trust a touch-screen voting system to any degree. I hope OK keeps the optical scan system, at least as long as I am around.
I'm curious--our system couldn't be more expensive than the touch screen. I always thought ours made the most sense--an electronic count for fast results, with a paper back up for disputes. And its very difficult to mess up when you vote.
Why aren't more states moving towards our system?
Because, it's too good. The repugs could not insure count manipulation. Would you think that Oklahoma Senators and congressmen would lead the way for change?

"Both sides are lawyering up," said Doug Chapin, director of the nonpartisan Election Reform Information Project. "Election night is not necessarily the finish line anymore."
Now, wouldn't you think the dweebs running our country would want a sane election by now?
