Title: You know Istook's in trouble when ...
Post by: rwarn17588 on November 01, 2006, 06:54:07 PM
True story: The missus and I ate tonight in a restaurant along Route 66 near Tulsa.

The wife of the restaurant's owner commented about all the politicians who've stopped in during campaign season, including Gov. Brad Henry.

"What about Ernest Istook?" I asked.

"Who's he?" she replied.

She was serious.

Ouch.

I'm really trying to figure out what Ernie was thinking.  If he was trying to retire with grace, he's failed.

I liked the volley of ads going back and forth from Hiett and Askins last night on the KOTV news.

Even though I think he's a toad, I have to give Hiett's advertising agency it's props, the illegal alien commercial with ET getting pizza delivery was hillarious.

I'm just curious ... by calling him "Ernie" do you think you are in some way making fun of him? Well, if you do, you are not. In fact, the first time I met him, he referred to himself as Ernie.

Lighten up Cubs, he's been known as Ernie inside the GOP, of which I'm a member, for as long as I can remember.

I thought he was a really good legislator, but he's not the right choice for Gov. at this point.  Perhaps if he hadn't been hanging his hat in Washington for the last ten or so years, I might think him to be more in touch with Oklahoma- these days.

I've gone back and forth between Ernie and Ernest. I like "Ernie" better because it sounds friendlier ... not so darned formal.

But if you want me to make fun of him, what the hell ...

I had a straight party friend ask me "I haven't been paying attention, have you see how istook is doing" and I told him "yeah, he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell"

To date that 'well-informed' individual is the only person I talked to who knew a republican was running.

He really hasn't mounted a campaign to speak of.
