School bans tag. (//%22http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2006/10/18/features/feature37.txt%22)  How long will it be before school buses will be outlawed because of the inherent danger from car accidents to students?

No...  I rarely define myself in terms of what I do...

Having said that, most IP attorneys feel somewhat of a protective disconnect from the legal world in general.

Specifically I do patent law and help inventors get protection for their patentable ideas.  I generally have happy clients as opposed to most attorneys who deal with pissed off people who only visit them when they are in a pinch.

90% of the time my clients come to me with an invention in one hand, money for me in the other and a smile on their face.  Very few areas of the law are like that.

It's true that in the gamut of attorneys, you folks and the appellate attorneys are the esoteric ones.

Intellectual property also includes Trademark.  Someone starting a business might retain a trademark attorney to advise them on their name and trademark.  Patent "litigators" on the other hand have a lot of similarities to your everyday litigators.

By the way I've nurtured a lot of baby attorneys and I have to say that I find attorneys are more often than not a cut above.

That's why I prefer preparation and prosecution of patents to litigation.  You are right, the average IP litigator deals with pretty much the same garbage that most attorneys deal with.

IP also encompasses Copyright and Trade Secrets as well.

Well you bring a lot more to the table than your right wing buddies inteller and conan71 so give yourself a brake.  Let's all remember to hug an attorney today (might want to keep a tight grip on your wallet though).
